Scots gender equality campaigner has bank account closed by RBS after 32 years

Professor Lesley Sawers and her husband Allan McKechnie have been told she has a 'mark against her name', apparently as a result of her work on gender and LGBT issues

Since the couple were put on notice they have held talks with a rival bank only to be told Prof Sawers had a "mark against her name", despite their account having a healthy balance of thousands of pounds.

Maybe we need to unbank the economy.

I do think though that if banks are going to take away our bank accounts for wrongthing they could at least publish a list of forbidden thoughts.

To be clear, I don't think a bank should be able to use the excuse of "risk to reputation" here.

The BBC has had to apologise to Farage for its story about the closure of his account. Lots of apologising, in fact.

Check your stories more carefully and don't slavishly follow the wrongthink Stasi, would be my advice.
