Another GC discrimination case against Open University.

Pilgrim Tucker is a community organiser and campaigner who supported the Grenfell Tower Residents campaign, the Grenfell Action Group. Her PhD with the OU is based on her activism.

If you google Pilgrim Tucker Crowdjustice you will find her page with the relevant information.

i have also heard that the OU can be problematic. A friend is studying with them, and this involves residentials, sometimes with shared rooms. You are guaranteed same-gender room mates, but not same-sex. So this attitude is affecting academic rigour (Jo Phoenix as well as Pilgrim) and also basic admin. Well and truly captured, despite biology modules teaching clearly that all mammals are dimorphic 🤦‍♀️

I didn't have any residentials with the OU but I'd have applied the same policy I use for work travel: I do not share a room with anyone. Full stop.
I used to be in the Army and I went to boarding school. I don't share with anyone. Ever.

Brefugee, which is fine, if you can afford to pay (more) for a single (or take a tent maybe?!)

Yepp - tent if necessary (for OU - for work ? Bite me 😁)

But I don't share rooms

Pilgrim Tucker's case against the OU is settled:

As many of you will know I initiated a legal claim against the Open University on grounds of discrimination and breach of contract. I am pleased to say that following discussions between myself and the University, a mutually agreed resolution has been reached.
An enormous thank you to everyone who’s supported me, in the different ways you’ve done that. And also a particular thank you to those who’ve supported me in my case despite disagreeing with my politics on other issues.

Biology is real, women are real. If you go to a British court because you are bigoted against people who know this you will LOSE. More and more lawyers know this so cases are getting settled increasingly.

So we need to step up our game. Complain more about sexist nonsense.

Lots more gender crit cases incoming. Keep gardening folks. We are going to need bigger store cupboards because the harvest is massive.

End October gardening list | Mumsnet

I’m not aware of anything new this month (if you are please add them) except for the possible need for further action by Sharar Ali. However there are...

@fromorbit thanks for the update. Another good result.

After the Jo Phoenix ET judgement the OU must have started to apply some “rigour” to their review of their defence and realised they didn’t have one.

That's great news- thank you for the update.

More good news I see. Maybe slightly sad that we don't get to hear the batshit views of some of the academics who outed themselves so gloriously as bigots, misogynists and homophobes in the Jo Phoenix case 😂
But hopefully Pilgrim is pleased.
