She'll be discussing fareness in sport. Since this is the first time a post-Emma Barnett presenter (Nuala McGovern) will be looking at gender identity ideology, this could be interesting.

Brilliant brilliant Sharron.
What a warrior she is!

And just to continue ranting, what about tracking monthly performance fluctuations due to the menstrual cycle and comparing it to a transwoman's monthly performance? I wonder if that would highlight anything insightful.

What about considering years of training required? Most transwoman seem to start a sport and dominate immediately - maybe you could compare the years of sporting participation before medalling?

And if you're still reading, I am aware of the great work by Dr Emma Hilton and Ross Tucker - why is their work not accepted as settled science?

The latest in sports medicine is to train female athletes in tune with menstrual cycles. I believe it's how some women's football teams have done so well lately.

Women's metabolisms are very different to male metabolisms. In some contexts the complete opposite.

Of course they've only recently begun to collect data purely on women.

I haven’t watched this, thank you for sharing. I did watch the Sex Matters webinar with Sharron on last night though, it was brilliant. I really admire her bravery and determination.

I must admit I usually avoid buying newly released books because money, I usually have to wait for eBay/charity shops, but I’m not waiting for her book. I am really glad she’s written it.

Off topic but speaking of menstrual cycles, I work closely with some NHS mental health workers and we have been discussing lately just how little female hormones are taken into account. Eg some antipsychotics favoured in psych wards (used to sedate, not just for teens who actually have psychosis) mess with hormone levels, risking the mental health of girls who are already affected by natural fluctuations. But it’s just female hormones so who cares, eh?

It was a good show from Sharron and the host was fairly reasonable.

Someone new to all this could listen to it for some time before realising they were talking about the simple matter of men pretending to be women, or even men just stating that they are women without doing any pretending. And people are letting these goons into women's sports events!

OhComeOnFFS · 29/06/2023 10:08

I listened to this and the night before I watched Kathleen Stock at the Oxford Union on YouTube.

Nuala: something along the lines of... we haven't been able to bring anyone in to give the opposing point of view

Oxford Union: Kathleen Stock struggles to hear what students are asking because of the racket outside from TWAW supporters who didn't want her to say what she thought.

Have you ever heard a TWAW supporter apologise for not showing the opposite POV?

I had two mares and by God, were they hormonal! Competitions were a nightmare if it coincided with their sexy-time - and horses’ “seasons” are every three weeks during spring and summer. Mares are often unpopular as competition horses because of this unpredictability/unreliability.

MavisMcMinty · 29/06/2023 10:10

Sorry, that was to @CurseYouPerryThePlatypus .

It's because those drugs will have been tested on men.
I thought that this was because, ironically, women's hormones make them react unpredictably, and so they can't get consistent results.

I didn’t realise that.

You’d think it’d be a reason for more careful monitoring really.

I have listened to this. What an eloquent, measured and well researched speaker Sharron is. Absolutely fantastic. The evidence that was used to back up every point was helpful in keeping everything non-emotional and leaving no doubt about the truth.

TheBiologyStupid · 30/06/2023 00:54

Just caught up. Sharron was excellent - as always. Great that she got the time to put her knowledge and experience out there. I do miss Emma Barnett though...

Doggydarling · 30/06/2023 01:20

She was also interviewed on Newstalk (Ireland) today.
