She'll be discussing fareness in sport. Since this is the first time a post-Emma Barnett presenter (Nuala McGovern) will be looking at gender identity ideology, this could be interesting.

Sharon, I do hope you have read all these comments and know how much we value your courage and clear delivery of your message on our behalf.
thank you

I really feel for the child in the video. It’s the adults, who are to blame in this scenario for magical thinking.

Sharron Davies is brilliant. I’ll listen later.

And India Willoughby sneers at Sharron calling her '2 o levels Sharron' on twitter...and India has achieved what exactly ?

Growing a cervix and flaunting that on the telly.

Allegedly.

At least Sharron has the excuse of being busy winning Commonwealth and Olympic medals during school exam years.

What's Willoughby's excuse?

Onheretoomuch · 28/06/2023 14:42

Sharron was fantastic. So proud of her putting herself out there again and again for the futures of our girls.

MavisMcMinty · 28/06/2023 14:55

Sharron is the same sort of age as me, and 2 O-Levels was pretty standard then, you only needed 5 to get into most jobs, including banking.

To be fair, the TRAs have been working off thin gruel recently:

-Kathleen Stock sat in her chair funny
-Billy Bragg informing lesbians they're doing sex wrong

Calling women smelly poo-heads is about all there is left.

WarriorN · 28/06/2023 15:15

Oooh I was thinking the other day she needs to go back on!

She really impacted a GP I know who happened to hear her last time. GP had no idea who Sharron is but was livid at the tra ideas that Sharron was describing.

LozengeShaped · 28/06/2023 15:22

Yes, I was v impressed by Sharron and her expert answers. It was great that she was actually on WH.

The interviewer's job is to ask questions, and as far as I'm concerned, the harder the better. (The ridiculous quote from Emily Bridges was well chosen to peak listeners!) It was great that Nuala gave Sharron plenty of time to answer, which is where sometimes interviewers go wrong!

WarriorN · 28/06/2023 15:23

The couple of years Post birth I was exceptionally vehemently feminist - possibly as you are in such a different post baby and realise how important maternity care is. And how vulnerable women can be.

Hope Emma comes back anew blazing after all that's happened in the last year.

WarriorN · 28/06/2023 15:24
  • I know Emma is supposed to be 'balanced' but the "staggering penis" quote had a certain emphasis that was very hard to miss.
WinterTrees · 28/06/2023 15:28

If I were IW I wouldn't want to be bringing 'what we were like as teenagers' into the conversation...

Lavenderu · 28/06/2023 15:29

I missed this! Will seek it out on catchup. I've been following Sharron Davis for years on Twitter. She started a long time ago very gently with a let's all be kind and find common ground approach. That has gradually changed and she gets horrendous abuse and takes no prisoners now.

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 28/06/2023 15:33

I caught most of it. Sharon was fantastic. Clear, eloquent, reasoned. Thank you Sharron. I have daughters and worry a lot about how things will be for them in the future. I hope they appreciate what people like Sharron are trying to do here

I see one of the wins was against a natal male who has boxed 8 matches professionally and won none of them. I guess promoters will only pitch Patricio against no-hope males?

They could well have been journeymen, who make a good living by not beating opponents. They're mostly reasonably skilled, but not championship material.

They learn to get beaten, without taking heavy punishment.

Here is just one of those wrong facts:

In 2022 the Office of National Statistics (ONS) published statistics showing just 0.5% of the population of England and Wales identified as a different gender than their sex assigned at birth. Breaking the stats down further and excluding those who are non-binary, just 48,000 were trans women, and the exact same figure were trans men. In comparison, the ONS report there are 30,420,100 natal females. Simple maths tells us that natal females outnumber trans women by the ratio of six hundred and thirty-three to one.

Basic maths proves trans women will never dominate women’s sports events.

Who knew that the 'winners' in women's sports were actually just picked at random from the whole population?!

Another wrong “fact”:

”only one trans woman has competed in the Olympics, Laurel Hubbard of New Zealand, who participated in 2020 in Japan … she came last.”

These pathetic “reporters” really need to do their homework. Another relatively ancient Olympian, who had only been doing the sport for four years.

All the eyerolls! 🙄

The Olympics’ shambolic gender rules are allowing biological men to displace women from the top of their sports – it has to stop

Canadian archer Stephanie Barrett is making her Olympic debut aged 42 having only taken up the sport four years ago, but all the fawning articles charting her meteoric rise fail to mention that Barrett was born male.

HPFA · 28/06/2023 16:43

Don't know why anyone is criticising Nuala.

She let Sharron speak, put the opposing view in a neutral and professional way and handled herself well.

I don't think we always recognise how much things are moving on - both the fact of the interview happening and the way it was conducted would have been unlikely only a year ago.

All this "the science is uncertain" bollocks really ticks me off!!!

Why is it uncertain? Because no one has bothered to research it properly. Why has no one bothered to research it properly? 1. Because no one cares about women's sports and 2. It would prove unequivocally that transgender women have an unfair advantage and no one wants to take on the transgender lobby because no 1.

The whole argument is ridiculous. What is the average height of elite biological women cyclists, runners and swimmers? What is the average height of transwomen cyclists, runners and swimmers? What about other physical measurements?

What about results and statistics from pre and post-transition for transwomen athletes? It's the 21st century and people first performed "sex changes" in the 1960s. The data exists! It's there! Just look at it! We know how fast Will Thomas swam and we know how fast Lia Thomas swam - compare them and then compare it to their peers. Why is this hard??? I could do it tomorrow but I'm busy!

SabrinaThwaite · 28/06/2023 18:48

Yes - Nuala quoting Bridges’ hyperbole about the BC policy gave Sharron the opportunity to point out that it’s just emotional manipulation.

ZeldaFighter · 28/06/2023 18:51

And just to continue ranting, what about tracking monthly performance fluctuations due to the menstrual cycle and comparing it to a transwoman's monthly performance? I wonder if that would highlight anything insightful.

What about considering years of training required? Most transwoman seem to start a sport and dominate immediately - maybe you could compare the years of sporting participation before medalling?

And if you're still reading, I am aware of the great work by Dr Emma Hilton and Ross Tucker - why is their work not accepted as settled science?

BettyFilous · 28/06/2023 19:05

Who knew that the 'winners' in women's sports were actually just picked at random from the whole population?!

I’m keeping everything crossed I don’t get called up for the Paris 2024 Olympics. 🤞🤞🤞 I don’t want to have to lay off cake and beer to get in shape.

MavisMcMinty · 28/06/2023 19:07

It was a great interview, Sharron was very impressive and knowledgable. Glad I listened to the first segment too, on the gropey Tory mayoral hopeful. Sharron had also listened, and was able to link what she was saying to what Isabel Hardman had said.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 28/06/2023 20:56

Sharron was phenomenal. I'd never applauded a radio programme before today. Brilliant.

MavisMcMinty · 28/06/2023 21:33

I’m also glad Sharron didn’t mention/reply to Emily Bridges’ cries of genocide, although I’d’ve been sorely tempted, personally.
