Wes Streeting says Tories weaponising trans issues to win votes and score cheap headlines

Wes Streeting, the shadow health secretary, said the prime minister was using equality “as a ‘wedge issue’ in an ugly culture war”.

Mr Streeting said: “We have a government, and a prime minister, who see an opportunity to use LGBT+ equality as a ‘wedge issue’ in an ugly culture war. Meanwhile, hate crimes against LGBT+ people are on the rise once again.

“The issues affecting young LGBT+ people today, and trans people in particular, are more complicated than when I was coming out.

“They demand leadership that handles them with care and sensitivity, rather than as a punchline or a way to score cheap headlines.”

Mr Streeting also warned that a hard-won consensus on LGBT+ equality “looks fragile at best”.

A spokesperson for the campaign group Conservatives for Women accused Mr Streeting of being “disingenuous”.

They said: “Women’s rights and child safeguarding are not part of an ‘ugly culture war’ and it is disingenuous to frame this issue that way. The prime minister has been very clear that he is fully supportive of maintaining women’s rights to single-sex services, spaces and sports, and we are grateful he can define the word ‘woman’ – something many of his opponents struggle with.”

Interesting that someone in Labour is admitting that the Tories challenging the trans narrative is a vote winner. Does that mean Labour recognises that supporting women's rights is a vote winner?! And they would rather lose than support women's rights ... ?

This is why this ex-Labour member left the party and I have no intention of voting Labour until they sort this shit out.
I'm not voting Tory either. Labour isn't damaging the Tories with this anti-woman rhetoric. They're just driving away their own voters.

Former Stonewall Head of Education and Labour MP Wes Streeting? The one that was a member of the secret group to shit on women in Labour in 2017/2018 ish? The one that Lily Madigan was involved in 'Labour Against Transphobia' which collected information to feed to HQ with the intention of ending careers of women and getting them kicked out the party. That Wes Streeting?

Yes definitely a Conservative wedge issue and remotely to do with the actions of Labour and Labour MPs which predates any interest the Conservatives have had on the subject by several years.

Oh, this culture war is being fanned by Labour too, despite their butter wouldn't melt in their mouths protestations.

Kevin Maguire, Mirror columnist and stalwart soft left Blairite/Starmerite, as conventional a left wing voice as you could get, on Jeremy Vine show castigating cat gender as made up (maybe?), no issue with multiple genders (really?), the Safe Schools Alliance is an alt right/Tory front (now you're losing it, buddy), there are zero safeguarding issues in schools/this is all a Tory plot (no, of course there's no culture war being fought as much by the Left as the Right, none at all).

Quote RedToothBrush 'Yes definitely a Conservative wedge issue and (nothing)remotely to do with the actions of Labour and Labour MPs which predates any interest the Conservatives have had on the subject by several years.'

I think this is meant sarcastically by RedToothbrush?

Wes comes access as looking for sympathy from people, he looks like is showing off that he survived whilst others loved ones did not. I

Maybe he survived to have to take anger coming his way at losing an election because he and LOJ told Labour he would place them on the right side of history.

Maybe he had to face the music at his making others sick and take cancer drugs they did not require based on fabrications that they can change sex so Wes and co could keep Stonewall in business?

Labour MP Wes Streeting admits he has 'survivor's guilt'

Talking on Lorraine, the Ilford North MP got candid about going through treatment during the pandemic and losing incredible people, including Margaret McDonagh to the illness.

He’s telling us that he’s got the ability to feel emotional about issues and empathy for other individuals, provided that certain factors are in place, that is:

  • the issue is one that has affected him personally;
  • the individual has experienced an issue that has affected him personally.

No Wes, we've thought and read about the issue deeply and we don't want creppy fetishistic men in our spaces.

Or do you believe that women are so stupid that we just let our opinions be dictated, swayed and weaponised by the tories?
