That really is despicable.
The murder of Declan Flynn was a homophobic attack. How dare anyone attempt to rub out this dreadful event. We remember him.

tastypasty · 24/06/2023 11:33

Because the head of Dublin pride is a transwoman.

NotBadConsidering · 24/06/2023 12:01

This is why the whole Michelle Obama “when they go low, we go high” schtick doesn’t work. This is low. Really, really despicably low. There’s no “high” to go with this, it just has to be told “fuck off with your despicable low act you evil cunts.”

Abhannmor · 24/06/2023 12:09

How awful. Disrespecting the memory of a gay man killed by homophobic thugs.

Changing a photo of the subsequent protest to insert a trans rights placard in place of the original one from 1983.

Is literally nothing sacred to these goons?

RIP Declan Flynn.

TheGreatATuin · 24/06/2023 12:09

Wow, that's despicable

JayAlfredPrufrock · 24/06/2023 12:11

Just when you think they couldn’t sink any lower, a new depth is plumbed.

Transparent2 · 24/06/2023 12:11

I see that the Dublin Pride website has this below the image:

"Note on image: This is a graphic that includes a couple of iconic images from different historical protests along with the obvious addition of a sign saying “Trans Rights Are Human Rights.”"

But it also says this on the same page:

"By the late 1970’s, the National LGBT Federation had begun to organise an annual Dublin Pride week that included events in the Hirschfeld Centre and a picnic in Merrion Square."

... and this is from the National LGBT Federation website:

"February 2014- NLGF renamed to National LGBT Federation
The National Lesbian and Gay Federation was renamed as the National LGBT Federation (NXF)."

Not quite indefensible, but seriously misleading.

Transparent2 · 24/06/2023 12:15

To clarify, I do think they are deliberately misleading people, but they are just about subtle enough about it to be able to pretend that they are being truthful. Disgraceful manipulation of history.

They added the bit about the image after they were called out on it. The original page didn't mention anything about the image being doctored. Presumably, they're so used to erasing gay history amd inserting themselves into it that it didn't occur to them that anyone would object. Fortunately, someone archived it before the change.
Difference shown in screenshots attached.

NotBadConsidering · 24/06/2023 12:44

But even with the additional note, regardless of when it was added, why do they still think having such an awful doctored photo still up is a good idea? It’s deep fake territory and they’re happy for it to persist.

TheGreatATuin · 24/06/2023 12:48

The thing that fucks me off is that those original gay and lesbian pioneers of gay rights fought for gay rights at real risk to themselves, both physically and in terms of their livelihood. There is a reason that those old images have so much impact.
Instead, people who weren't there and are now actively promoting homophobia are claiming that bravery for themselves while erasing the people who actually were.
I can't begin to describe how detestable that behaviour is.

I think its simply a complete lack of integrity. It suits them to have people believe the doctored image is real so they don't care.

DemiColon · 24/06/2023 12:56

I find it interesting that they think people would not immediately say, that is not real, because it's so anachronistic.

But they are probably right, so many people now seem to not even notice this kind of thing. I was on a thread in aibu that talked about anachronistic attitudes on historical television series, and so many people seem blase, and don't really even notice.

I suspect it is because they don't realize.

Abhannmor · 24/06/2023 13:13

Yes @DemiColon these things jump off the page or the screen to me.

But ....I keep forgetting I'm ancient.

TheBiologyStupid · 24/06/2023 16:19

FFS! What an absolute disgrace.

LonginesPrime · 24/06/2023 16:29

Yes, it's shocking.

But I guess for a movement which relies so very heavily on rewriting individuals' history, they simply can't see how wrong and misleading this is.

An important tenet of gender ideology is "our history is whatever we say it is" and this is how that manifests.

It was a march to honour a man who was murdered by homophobes. Centring trans in that just shows exactly why the LGB should have nothing to do with the T.

Helleofabore · 24/06/2023 17:46

It is all about convincing people that ‘trans people were ALWAYS here’, innit?

Well, yes. There was some trans people back when that photo was taken, but certainly not there or with those signs!

This dishonesty is all they have.

TheBiologyStupid · 24/06/2023 17:59

Thanks for those excellent tweets from Simon Edge, tasty!

Moonandstarzz · 24/06/2023 23:34

Very poor turn out in Dublin today apparently.

Cork was also badly attended.

My lgb friends steered clear of both despite a big push on social about the importance of attending this year. They stayed away as pride no longer represents them
