I’m a gender critical feminist and I’ve recently stopped caring at all what men think. I don’t even start conversations about it, I just refuse to censor myself or let myself be silenced anymore. I have had open conversations with my female friends, and we all agree, but are rarely brave enough to talk in public about our sex-based abuse, discrimination, rights, and protections. I have been reading GC and radical feminist books voraciously, and I’m still self-conscious in public and nervous about what people will say. It is exhausting being a woman. It’s a bit less exhausting when you feel like you have an understanding, strong community of like-minded women around you. It was this lurking on this page that emboldened me. So, thank you, ladies. Thank you for giving me the guts to speak up, or at least to stop shutting up.

Do you not ever stop and think how exhausting it is for trans-people being constantly abused and also facing misogyny?

Sometimes it is also important to put yourself in others' shoes.

Do Trans people ever stop to think about how their actions affect others? The impression I get is that transactivists are very aggressive about pushing trans rights without considering how they may impact on other people, although I appreciate transactivists may not represent the whole trans population. Maybe we could meet somewhere half way? Perhaps third spaces?

I'd look ridiculous in size 12 stilettos.

If someone is bothering you, try walking a mile in their shoes.

Now you are a mile away; and have their shoes.

No, too busy fighting for the truth to be told.

The way I see is that the LGB people were fine up until the Ts came along. And then the Qs. And then all varying shades of mental illness left incubating in the mess became all too apparent. I'm not a feminist, so I'm not a TERF, though I'm also not a TRA. TERFs only exist now because of the Ts infiltrating LGB. I suppose I am GC, though. There are only 2 genders, or rather, there are only 2 sexes and gender is a made-up word that is used to described masculine women, ie tomboys and effeminate men, ie whatever the word is for that, if it exists.

If you're gay, that's fine. If you're lesbian, that's fine. Just don't tell me you can switch sex and ignore your biology, because I won't give you an easy time of it.

The way I see is that the LGB people were fine up until the Ts came along. And then the Qs. And then all varying shades of mental illness left
People used to say being gay was a mental illness too ( and some still do think that)
You're using the exact same argument used down the years against the part of LGBT you're presumably ok with by your comments saying LGB were fine until T."
Who's to say LGB letters wont be next when they hold the exact same opinion on "mental illness " to the rest of the letters?

Hepwo · 19/06/2023 18:15

Mishy was here?

Forgot to bring the new biology though I see.

PIKNIK20 · 19/06/2023 18:21

Solidarity with all GC women. We will keep on fighting for our sake and for the sake of the next generation being led into the abyss of non-binary

What do LGB have in common with T and the rest of the letters? Asking for a friend.

Who is this mysterious they Bodger? Andbe next for what exactly?

TeamKenwood · 19/06/2023 18:55

@Boiledbeetle

Them were the days 😆

BodgerLovesMashedPotato · 19/06/2023 18:56

Who is this mysterious theyBodger?
They being people who hold the mental illness view against LGB people as someone expressed upthread about the T.

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 19/06/2023 19:06

But how can believing you are something you a provably not be anything other than a mental illness?
I could claim to be male, 7 years old, Chinese, a size 6, pregnant. It could quite easily be proven that I am none of those things. If I started to claim any of those things people would say I'm deluded (ie mentally unwell)

My son is Gay. He doesn't "believe" he is gay, he just is. And presumably could prove it. (I mean he could prove he's sexually attracted to men and not women)

Sometimes it is also important to put yourself in others' shoes.

FGM
Constant normalisation of sexual harassment even of young school girls
gynaecological issues
Lack of medical research and clinical indifference to ‘women-specific’ health issues
Constantly judged on looks
Birth and breastfeeding complications
Now being denied single-sex spaces for dignity and privacy
Unequal pay and domestic expectations
Cultural female infanticide
Rape as weapon of war

Etc etc …the list goes on and on what girls and women have to put up with. Biological women.

What is exhausting is having men mock and appropriate this and play the victim. They don’t have a clue what the experience of womanhood is and never will.

waterlego · 19/06/2023 08:28

@MishyJDI There is no mention of trans people in the original post. This appears to be a thread about women’s rights. Why have you chipped in with a post about trans people?

Why break the habit of a lifetime?

Waitwhat23 · 19/06/2023 19:08

I want to put forward a thanks to all our frequent flyers (Mishy, Bodger, IOF, Margey etc) for their ongoing work towards peaking women. You are being told that you are directly peaking women and still you continue. I'm wondering whether we should start referring to you as peakers, in a similar way that people refer to allies etc.

Thank you, peakers! Carry on with the good work
