They've just quoted for my kitchen refit and have phoned today for a follow up. Shame I've only just seen this but won't be using them now.

Go to Benchmarx instead. They are the exact same kitchens, but cheaper.

MrsJamin · 16/06/2023 07:03

Seriously what chief of operations really says that they only just want 10% of their customers and are happy with them just being really loyal? And the audacity to claim that people won't stick to boycotts? I visited a Target after it was all kicking off on social media about their pride product line, and at midday (after schools had broken up) it was so SO quiet, eerily so.
Enjoy the pink and blue pound, Wickes: it's not going to go far!

MrsJamin · 16/06/2023 07:13

Another thing: can you imagine working there and being told that you shouldn't be in a store and you're a bigot for having gender critical views? Sounds to me like grounds for a constructive dismissal case...

Florissante · 16/06/2023 07:24

I wonder if GC employees would have grounds for claiming constructive dismissal.

Darkmodus · 16/06/2023 07:31

Seems a bit of an extreme stance for them to take!

Our local store is pretty good but other suppliers are also close so…

OldGardinia · 16/06/2023 07:34

It's not like Wicke's products are special in any way. I'll just start going to B&Q. If I can find an independent DIY store, I already just use that.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 16/06/2023 07:38

I checked them out on Trustpilot and a lot of dissatisfied customers there.

Longden shockingly called anyone who disagrees with him on this topic “bigots” before saying that they are “not welcome in our stores anymore

I'd like to see him get out of it. 'Oh no, I didn't mean people who work here, oh desire me, no. Employees can be terfs, absolutely, just not customers. Ok?'

MagpiePi · 16/06/2023 08:09

Wickes is expensive and not that good IMO. I use Toolstation as my first choice but have just found out they are owned by Travis Perkins, who also own Wickes.

Screwfix are owned by B&Q, but Screwfix and Toolstation were started by members of the same family.

You can’t win!

WhiteFire · 15/06/2023 20:14

Yes, those with ongoing contractual work are using building merchants, or the likes of Screwfix. tbh I use SF as I am more likely to get what I want.

I rarely use Wickes, I won't miss it.

Screwfix have changed their twitter logo (https://twitter.com/Screwfix) but nothing Pride/LGBT related in their tweets, or on their website.

MrsJamin · 16/06/2023 08:18

I couldn't see anything on B&Q's social media about pride apart from an icon change to rainbow. Have they toned stuff down now?
The arrogance that wickes is the only place to buy paint! Let's all share good paint shop options where people don't call us bigots! We want to try the Lick Pro stuff from Screwfix as they have really nice colours- has anyone used it before?

Gobbolinothekitchencat · 16/06/2023 08:43

Screw fix is one of our amateur house renovations supplier of choice. Wickes may be on the lgbtq+ wagon but they are yet another company with a token approach to reasonable adjustments for those with autism (with no overlap into the aforementioned group). I was already doing a one woman boycott of them because of their off-hand approach. And their range is poor.

Am sick of company’s taking the easy route to being inclusive, much easier to swap loo signs then actually learn how to approach potential staff with autism but this isn’t the discussion here.

Although Screwfix had a really awful automated virtual interview which was akin to flashing lights at you, they always have stock.

PronounssheRa · 16/06/2023 09:03

The COO is pretty arrogant isn't he?

Anyway wickes share price is struggling a little today.

KalimbaMoon · 16/06/2023 09:21

As the advert song goes: “Welcome to my world, won’t you come on in?”

Turns out, 90% of us are not welcome after all. Wickes need to change their tune.

MrsJamin · 16/06/2023 09:45

You'd have thought that the Chief Operating Officer would have more important things to worry about than misgendering etc. The whole company has been on a downturn for three years and this won't exactly help, telling 90% of his customers not to shop there.

It's one thing to rainbow your logo. It's another to insult and abuse your customers.

Wickes' Click & Collect allows you to check stock at local branches.

IME almost everything I look at in B&Q has a terrible rating - obviously you can't be sure whether reviews are real but being able to search reviews for particular terms (eg I've been doing a lot of looking a different adhesives recently, trying to find one that I can use to safely repair a broken milk jug as well as for the larger job that's prompting the purpose) has been really useful to me. Plus some of the photos in Wickes reviews have been useful.

Anyway, good luck with your project/s.

Do you work there?

Ohnohedident · 16/06/2023 10:08

Hmm, Im about to move and in the market for a new flooring, decorating, the whole works.
Good to know Im not welcome at Wicks. I'll make sure I dont waist everyones time by looking at or buying any of their stuff.

Ohnohedident · 16/06/2023 10:10

Im sure they can ride out this storm, its only a few wims anyway.

I mean, Bud light has been fine, right?

I know.

I wonder how shareholders are feeling this morning, after a dire few years, shares are down another 4% today.

Chersfrozenface · 16/06/2023 10:25

Wickes closed the store on our side of the city (as PP have said, they were already having problems). The other store is the other side through horrendous traffic so we don't bother going. So I can't boycott them. Oh well, hey ho.

Redshoeblueshoe · 16/06/2023 10:32

Cat3i if you want to show how virtuous you are you could just pop to Oxfam for a milk jug, but where I live they no longer exist
