It's wrong they're allowing it but anyone getting nude in a public spa probably doesn't care. Who even goes to these places??

QuintanaRoo · 09/06/2023 07:59

Well quite, personally I'd agree. but it says it's a Korean tradition. I do think women should be able to partake in traditional naked Korean spas if that's what they want to do.

I've been to a nude spa in Austria, one in Amsterdam. Not really common in the Uk, but elsewhere they exist.

I've been to mixed sex ones, but if I'd booked to a female only and a man walked in I'd be seriously pissed off.

Littlegoth · 09/06/2023 08:01

@Cakencookieobsessed as someone who has used nude spas I disagree. Fine if you are expecting it to be mixed sex, but most of the mixed sex places also have men or women only saunas. Lots of women prefer to use women only saunas for any number of reasons.

TheGreatATuin · 09/06/2023 08:03

I see it's a Korean spa. My understanding is that is a common cultural thing in Korea. They'd have spas and bath houses split by sex, and you'd generally go with your children.
This was the same type of place as the Wi-Spa on Los Angeles where TRA protests kicked off after women protested a man behaving inappropriately in the female area and he turned out to be a known sex offender.

But they believe they’re getting nude in public just with other women. That in no way means they don’t care about whoever else might see them nude. I don’t understand the logic that attendees of a women-only space are automatically free-spirited extroverts?🤨

IncomingTraffic · 09/06/2023 08:10

It’s really interesting how respect for other cultures (in this case Korean traditions) matters less than letting biological males be naked in a space for women.

Who cares about all the female people who will now be excluded from the space. ‘Inclusion’ of white males is the top priority.

With the added factor that you’re not allowed to mention that they’re male, and must undertake re-education if you dare to even think that.

You’re completely missing the point.

Women regularly ‘get nude’ in the female showers or changing room at the gym or pool. They aren’t being exhibitionist.

This kind of Korean spa is similar. Except there is more soaking them scrubbing skin involved.

What’s with the attitude that women who might take their clothes off in a female only space for the purpose of washing or changing somehow deserve to have to put up with male bodies in that space?

MrsJamin · 09/06/2023 08:16

Sounds like this person is doing it just to make an activist point. What TF is a non binary transwoman anyway? That's having your cake, eating it and juggling it too.

ZeldaFighter · 09/06/2023 08:17

The Daily Mail said "Lee explained that Olympus was a family-owned 'women's Korean traditional health spa' and noted that nudity was required for certain treatments.
He wrote: 'We firmly believe it is essential for the safety, legal protection, and well-being of our customers and employees that we maintain adherence to this adaptation of a females-only rule.'"

Not good enough - so both a sexist and racist decision - 1 white man's feelings are more important than all the staff and other customers feelings.

coronabeer · 09/06/2023 08:29

I doubt it’s about his “feelings”; it seems pretty transparent to me that in this case it’s about indulging his sexual kinks.

Aaaaaaarrrrrrrggggghhhhh

Bubblyb00b · 09/06/2023 08:35

WTF, I have used traditional Korean spa while living in LA - they are very intimate spaces, you are literally sitting in the jacuzzi, lying in sauna, standing in the shower very close to other women, this is not a nude beach scenario, how can you relax when there is a man there?!

They are common in Asia. I've been to them. They are also common in other cultures ie Judaism. It's a private female-only space based on cultural tradition, not a free spirited nudist thing.

georgarina · 09/06/2023 08:52

And again, a 'woman' whose only move is to oppress women and invade their spaces, not caring about the discomfort this causes. Not very sisterly.

Not my thing, but lots of doggerel cultures have this

PriOn1 · 09/06/2023 09:00

I hope this gets lots of publicity. The reality is that the spa may have to close. The staff refuse to work with men and few women will want to use it. These men are sickening.

ShimmeringShirts · 09/06/2023 09:10

He has a full 5 o’clock shadow, something I’ve never seen on any woman alive, not even on real women who are prone to facial hair themselves.

forgotmyusername1 · 09/06/2023 09:13

feel sorry for the spa here

They will lose a lot of business over this. By plastering it on facebook his 'female' friends will probably all decide to join as they know they can't be stopped. He will probably end up wondering around with his 'female' friends going - dude, where's the dickless chicks?

This is such a big issue and I can't believe they're allowed to advertise something as 'woman only' when it's obviously not. It's fraudulent, it's deception.

Even if you personally believe 'woman' relates to gender not sex, it's obvious that a large majority of the population uses a sex-based definition (the only definition until 5 minutes ago) so it should be a responsibility of the business to make it clear what they mean e.g. 'woman only' (by this we mean anyone with a gender identity of 'woman', not female only) or something.

If they don't do that, they're exposing women to what they may consider sexual assault.

This has really made my skin crawl. As if any woman would announce they were off to the "naked lady spa". Just alarm bells all the way. I feel so sorry for the spa.

feebeecat · 09/06/2023 09:25

WTF?? When will this madness end.
As an “incidental female”, I guess I should know my incidental place and just shut up. Bet his mother is proud of him

Bubblyb00b · 09/06/2023 09:30

TBH I really hope this is just a stunt. Why would anyone want to use a place where you clearly will not be welcomed, especially after the court case? I doubt Korean ladies working it the spa (and most of them, from my experience, are middle aged, old fashioned and speak little to no English) will be going out of their way to be polite.

Also, I think (or at least I hope) once this "lady" gets an erection or makes any other sexual moves towards other customers the spa will have a legitimate reason to ban.
