Anyone seen the tweet by Maya tonight about this little animation by Oxfam? Here’s the link:

So was I! So there we are. Oxfam is just another Trojan horse to roll out stonewall think

WittynotPretty · 07/06/2023 08:41

Maya Forstater about to be interviewed on the Times Radio breakfast show, ‘talking about that Oxfam ad’ according to Stig Abell.

I think much like the Times article this article is basically a precise of this thread.

Dont any of you who contribute to FWR value the contribution of others.

Or do the same words only have value when validated by a mainstream paper and a journalist giving them what the want?!

I find news and opinion pieces interesting, not because I don’t value the views of people on FWR but because it demonstrates how the things we discuss here are being discussed and disseminated in the wider world. I seem to remember a judge (maybe in the Harry Miller case) mentioning how he’d been reading about the gender ideology debate in the Times. It’s not just the positive pieces that are shared either, there is always interest in how (or whether) the Guardian or R4 are covering things because we know that many people dismiss other sources and will only pay attention to left leaning or “impartial” media.

The head of influencing at oxfam used to work for stonewall

I get a tweet deleted message when I tried to look at this - anyone have a screen shot?

Also absolutely love the letter from @mommyisbest, really well worded.

Mariella Frostrup batting for the cause and against the ‘smug worthiness’ of@ the JFK haters. And she sounds very cross.

Nominative determinism in action there....

borntobequiet · 07/06/2023 09:05

@mommyisbest such a good post.

It would suggest that the organisation is rotten through and through. They've learned nothing from Haiti and past scandals - just tried to paper over and pretend all is well.

Totally agree.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 07/06/2023 09:11

Colour me unshocked at the stonewall Oxfam link.

the lack of self awareness of stonewall alumni never ceases to amaze. That you’d turn up to work at a charity that works with some of the poorest & most marginalised ppl on earth, where there had already been a huge scandal around their treatment of women & girls and think “you know what this charity really needs to do is think more about the gender identity of middle class people in the western world”

Signalbox · 07/06/2023 09:12

Huge numbers of orgs have now shown some form of LGBT support in one way or another. I am curious just how boycotters manage to keep track of them all and boycott them all.

Capitalism loves trans ideology. So much money to be made.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 07/06/2023 09:15

No problem at all with organisations showing support for LGB ppl

still unclear why any company should be cheering on young women having their healthy breasts removed and taking testosterone because society is so misogynistic they’d rather think they’re a man than be a woman or middle aged men performing their interpretation of femininity and crashing unwanted into women’s spaces

TrainedByCats · 07/06/2023 09:17

Brilliantly put Shazia more eloquently than I could

oh… what a surprise!

When are employers going to realise that hiring employees that influence the message and the strategic direction of the organisation directly from activist backgrounds only works if that activism fits exactly into your organisation’s remit and target market.

That was always a recipe for disaster employing a stonewall influencer into Oxfam. The message was never going to be professional in its treatment of voices that disagree. Hire a person who has extreme biases based on no fact just emotion and you get what you pay for.

RedRiverSun · 07/06/2023 09:24

They've lost our donations over this one. Their management is rotten to the core.

Nominative determinism in action there....

My thought also.

@mommyisbest excellent post, thank you.

I recently met an financial manager who said he'd worked a lot with charities and he divided their governing bodies/ management boards into two broad types: well intentioned but very often inexperienced and clueless, or conniving shysters in it for what they could get out of it.

I've got a couple of friends who have either worked for or volunteered at a high level with big charities. They emerged pissed off with either self-seeking brass or financial ineptitude.

It's really sad when once great charities hop onto ideological bandwagons and make out that anyone who doesn't agree with them is evil and degenerate.

BaronMunchausen · 07/06/2023 09:42

Not sure why Oxfam parted with an unknown (?) amount of donor cash to mark the holy month of Pride at all, but when they commissioned Falana Films in Bangalore to make this video (graphics put together by she/her @deep.teee) they would have given a clear brief. I strongly suspect this mentioned ‘Terfs’ as a clear and present danger, and casually mentioned JKR as an example.

Oxfam’s cash comes from the public of course, but there seems to be so much money swilling around captured outfits like Falana Films and the organisations they work with (like Sandbox Collective) that I am left wondering where it comes from? They can’t all commission each other from nothing.

And how much of the developing world has adopted the western practice of making gender ideology compliance a condition for funding (particularly for women-centred activity)? Cultural imperialism in the frame again. Commissioning an Indian company seems to be Oxfam’s lip-service to internationalism - the film however is concerned for the western twitter TRA rather than Hijra.

I am many pages behind on this thread, but has BBC R4 spoken about this at all? Just heard it mentioned on Times radio
