Anyone seen the tweet by Maya tonight about this little animation by Oxfam? Here’s the link:

I refuse to believe this was a coincidence! Racism, antisemitism and misogyny in one nice little bundle

Miranda Yardley tweeted the email oxfam have sent to their staff today. I think his comment is spot on

“We are sorry for the offence it caused”. That’s not a proper apology, Oxfam! Be sorry for doing the damn thing, not for the reaction to it. They need to do better than this.

The new video still uses the word queer, which some LGB people find offensive.

TheBiologyStupid · 06/06/2023 16:04

IcakethereforeIam · 06/06/2023 15:42

They've posted an inadequate apology

So they're leaving the blatant racism in then... Idiots!

IcakethereforeIam · 06/06/2023 16:05

Still got the mastectomy scars, 'queer' and someone at the end with a 'love is love' flag.

ArabeIIaScott · 06/06/2023 16:06

They apologise to their 'trans' staff, but not to women? Fuckers!

Catbumps · 06/06/2023 16:20

I have been spreading this message and I know 3 people already who’ve diverted their charity sponsorship from them….they’re disgusting

NeedANewPhone1 · 06/06/2023 16:24

Aaaand now they've managed to piss off absolutely everyone on all 'sides', if the comments are anything to go by. Amazing.

Yes, that is very clear.

Zebracat · 06/06/2023 16:27

I just cancelled my standing order and told them I will no longer use their shops. The woman I spoke to was very nice, she took my details so that she could pass my views on. I didn’t get the shut the door behind you , byeee! Vibe I got when I cancelled Good Housekeeping after a ridiculously positive feature about a 13 year old trans girl. I explained that I am a trans exclusionary feminist, but that I don’t hate anyone, I simply believe women need separate spaces. And that their video was hateful towards me and those with my views. I should have done it after the sexual exploitation scandal, but had hoped so much that they would learn from it and become a beacon of good practice. Frees up money for gardening!

JustPassingThyme · 06/06/2023 16:30

I imagine they wouldn’t like it if someone rang them up and offered to donate £10,000,000, in monopoly money of course, because money is a social construct and they hold a philosophical belief that monopoly money is real money.

heartofglass23 · 06/06/2023 16:36

It's horrific.

But what to expect from oxfam given the history.

IcakethereforeIam · 06/06/2023 16:37

I didn't realise one of Oxfam's abusers in Haiti was the fucking head honcho there!!

I note the statement says trans rights are human rights but NOT women's rights are human rights.

I'm getting definite 'women and girls are subhuman and not actual humans like men (obvs including those who ID as women, because we all know they're the important sex really)' vibes from Oxfam. Which honestly makes them completely useless as they work in many countries where women ALREADY don't have human rights. Or perhaps that's the point, less chance their staff will be called out for any alleged rapes of minors there, perhaps?

I wonder how many trans staff they have vs women who know that a blouse and eye shadow does not a lady make (but are too scared to say so)

Jesus that’s an upsetting read

sex with children. That’s definitely how you know you’re one of the good guys

dimorphism · 06/06/2023 16:46

Bloody hell @IcakethereforeIam my post was a cross post ..... unbelievable this man was allowed to give a month's notice etc....

Andante57 · 06/06/2023 16:58

Oxfam, in my opinion, got off very lightly over that. The organisation should have been closed down then and those who had raped and abused women and girls in Haiti should be in a fucking jail cell IN HAITI.

I agree. Were any of the perpetrators of these crimes ever punished, I wonder?

lieselotte · 06/06/2023 16:59

Ah well I've never donated to them anyway.

I have occasionally bought a book in one of their specialist charity shops but I won't again until there is a change of staff. I have no idea why they've not been investigated and wound up by the Charity Commission following what happened in Haiti.

dimorphism · 06/06/2023 17:01

Also why the 'this may be upsetting, particularly for trans staff' - it's women they've demonised in their hate filled video. Are women not allowed to be upset?

No concern for women at all.

So - they say trans rights are human rights but not women's rights are human rights, they're concerned about trans feelings but not women's feelings and they allow their staff to get away without any investigation into multiple allegations of rape of female children.

I also very much hope Lorna is sued for defamation as the reason the former Oxfam employee left was not related to 'trans inclusion' at all. Lorna has a really poor understanding of the law, seemingly.

ScrollingLeaves · 06/06/2023 17:03

I cannot get over that mastectomy image to go together with the words that they protect women and girls, or that they are using a girl’s voice from a country where girls already have enough problems without getting transed.

dimorphism · 06/06/2023 17:03

Because poor women and girls don't matter and aren't really human.

We can all think of various other groups of people who would have been unlikely to be victimised in this way in the first place, but if they had been, we'd never have heard the end of it and Oxfam would have been shut down and the individuals allegedly involved would have faced investigations and possible criminal charges.

MrsJamin · 06/06/2023 17:06

Lorna Fallon, you have betrayed women for bowing down to men's feelings - shame on you!

It's fucking stark.
