Meh, he's just a man in drag. I dislike drag as an adult and loathed panto dames as a child, so it's not to my taste. But as far as I can see he doesn't think he's a woman, so presumably he's 'part of the LGBTQ community' because he's gay rather than trans?

But so many women (and men) find this offensive so why are they doing it? It is a big FO from Nationwide to women who don't like it. What other group would have their views on what is offensive ignored like this? And I know not all women find it offensive but no doubt not everyone thought the black and white minstrels were offensive when they were taken off TV. The fact that many do find it offensive should be enough when showcasing drag is not a necessary part of what being a building society is.

As others have said I wish businesses would just be a bank or a supermarket or whatever and get on with looking after that instead of trying to 'educate' the rest of us all the time.

I had an email earlier about pride go Henry cards for kids

Moomoola · 06/06/2023 07:49

Oh ffs. Why does go Henry cards need pride?
so sick of the T in LGBT being rammed down our throats. It’s relentless.
finding an employee who dresses up as a woman is SUCH a lazy way to jump on the bandwagon.
Let’s see the film about the person who brings their whole disabled self to work for next months disabled month. ( do they even get a whole month).
grrrr

Right. So I can expect an advert about Financial Advisor Becky who heads off to work at the strip club after she's clocked off.

ChristinaXYZ · 06/06/2023 11:10

The whole thing is really depressing.

BCCoach · 06/06/2023 11:28

It's a shame they didn't think a little more about inclusivity when they closed our branch, meaning that their most vulnerable customers, the elderly and disabled, are now faced with a 2 hour round trip by public transport to speak to someone face to face.

This💯
But do you think if a T person asked them to reopen the branch then they would? Might be worth a try...

Some protected characteristics are more protected than others it seems. Even when it is identity not reassignment ...

Moomoola · 13/06/2023 14:33

Yup. I've yet to see pensioners month. Or disability month. Didn't pride used to be a day?

The US has an 'Older American Months', but that doesn't appear to have reached out shores

I'm going to have a pretty large sum of money to invest fairly soon, Nationwide have just ensured I won't be letting them have any of it... ever.

What bank isn't like this?

commonground · 13/06/2023 17:34

I can't see the problem. It's Drag Month, right? Isn't it?

AutisticLegoLover · 13/06/2023 18:30

Nationwide is a great local building society for me but I'm reconsidering. I'm hoping head office attitudes are not promoted locally. I'll find out tomorrow.

Is Disability Pride Month related to LGBTQ+ Pride? There has been much conversation and deliberation about whether the two months are related to each other. The answer is in some ways, yes, and in other ways no.
There are people that are part of both the disabled community and the LGBTQ+ community – and it’s an individual choice of how to celebrate both.

this, from the link to disability pride month posted by scholespanda
OF COURSE if you call it disability pride month, people will think it has to do with the pride month that’s in the month before. And a flag. That looks like the pride flag. Really?

It's not untrue though is it- there are people who are disabled and LGBT+?
There have been some heartfelt postings about why some people feel turned off by Pride, not least by Lesbians who feel excluded from it. But I'm not convinced by this 'LGBT pride reduces support for other protected characteristics' arguement.
There are months and weeks for other protected characteristics, and people could quite easily push their employers or companies they buy from to do more on these if they so wished. It would take some effort though- and it's always easier to tear other people down than it is to build people up.

International Women's Day.

Holocaust Day.

Pride Month.

Why does it need an entire month?

Moomoola · 14/06/2023 07:41

Hmm. Yes it is. But in pride month at work, my partner has had.. a 4 page digital newsletter explaining how many people are trans and how to talk to trans people. This came once as thar front page of the monthly newsletter with a massive announcement, once as a seperate email, printed out on desks, posters on walls. There’s also been a stall in the canteen.
ill let you know what they do for disability month.

Moomoola · 14/06/2023 07:42

sinnerboy exactly. Wasn’t it a day once upon a time, then a week..now an entire month.

I must add that I'm not against Pride as a thing, just baffled as to why a genocide only merits a day etc.

Not a rainbow to be found in my local branch.

I went to London at the weekend and was very surprised by just how many rainbows there were everywhere. Great big ones over Pall Mall it might have been. London is a far away exotic place to me up north in my little town so it was very eye opening. I've fed back to Lego with their huge rainbow tree that they should keep politics out of toys aimed at children.
