Frustrating conversation with NB sister

'I don't want to be called a cis woman.' (Me)
'I will call you cis because that's what you are.'
'What would you say if a transwoman wanted to be called a woman?'
'I would call her a woman.'
'You wouldn't insist on calling them a trans woman because that's what they are?'
...

It's so frustrating how many women and girls don't realise this movement is actually the pinnacle of male entitlement, to the point of them taking over womanhood for themselves. And the refusal to see it when confronted with it.

end rant.

But I think trans women are 'actual women' too. So referring to women who are not trans as 'actual women' doesn't work to distinguish between cisgender women and transgender women.

Which is essentially what this boils down to: you want to prevent the use of cisgender precisely so you can force people like me to express views that I don't believe (i.e. that trans women aren't 'actual women').

Your analysis in the last paragraph shows your understanding of the issue. So presumably you can understand the issue from our point of view, too:

You, TeaKlaxon (& all the other genderists), want to impose the use of cisgender precisely so you can force people like me to express views that I don't believe.

ScrollingLeaves · 02/06/2023 15:03

@TeaKlaxon
I was wondering what you make of the non-human members of the animal and plant kingdoms: are they too ‘assigned’ to be male or female at birth?

Or are they just born male or female?

Farmageddon · 02/06/2023 15:05

ArabeIIaScott · 02/06/2023 14:27

Comfortable in skin?! I have a bit of a rash. Does that make me trans?

😂

Hagosaurus · 02/06/2023 15:12

Noting that Tea and Clementine seem to have stopped posting. If either of you do read this, I’m still really interested in your view of the meaning of the word ‘woman’ in non-circular referency language if you can do that?

Also really interested in the difference between NB and someone who just chooses not to conform to all?/most?/some? sex-based stereotyping - cos I honestly haven’t ever met anyone who confirms to all sex-based stereotypical preferences & characteristics. Are we all NB now?

TWETMIRF · 02/06/2023 15:17

Clementineorsatsuma · 02/06/2023 14:23

Do any of you know what cis means?

Comfortable in skin

So if that is offensive, are you NOT comfortable in your skin? 🤷‍♀️

Genuinely confused as to why it's deemed offensive.

I'm a woman. I'm a cis woman. I'm a middle aged woman. I'm a divorced woman. I'm a single woman. I'm a straight woman. I'm an overweight woman. I'm a working woman. I'm an intelligent woman.

I could go on.

They're all just adjectives.

Wow, the Romans were using English all those years ago? It's a bit odd though that they would refer to comfortable in skin alpine Gaul (Gallia Cisalpina) and transalpine Gaul (Gallia Transalpina).

ApocalipstickNow · 02/06/2023 15:22

Comfortable in skin? 😂

if that were true the majority of young people (definitely girls) would NOT be in anyway cis at all.

And wtf does that mean anyway? I didn’t feel even close to being “comfortable in my skin” until I was in my 30s- even now I can’t say hand on heart I’m 100% ok with myself.

Have you somehow missed the generations of girls and women who go to sometimes extremes to fit into an ideal they can’t measure up to?

Actually now I think about it maybe this explains the rise in girls who id as nb/trans- because some idiot is telling them they need to change not society.

JanesLittleGirl · 02/06/2023 15:32

@CClementineorsatsuma
"Do any of you know what cis means?

Comfortable in skin"

Wrong. It is the Latin prefix cis- meaning 'on this side '. It is an approximate opposite to the Latin prefix trans- meaning 'across' or 'on the other side '.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/06/2023 15:34

Yes and it was only coined for gender identity about 30 years ago, and certainly wasn't in wide use for most of that.

ILikeDungs · 02/06/2023 16:20

Do any of you know what cis means?

Yes. It is a way of fucking with language to create a situation where women lose the word "women" and it no longer means, well, women. Trans is also a prefix to women, TW argue, so they are just as valid women as those other prefixed women are.

It is a ploy and I'm not having it. I am a woman.

"Assigned at birth" is similar. Get people to accept hearing and speaking crazy-speak, and you get people accepting crazy concepts.

No, it's not 'comfortable in MY skin', just 'comfortable in skin'.

Ask Ed Gein.

Lucky you if you're comfortable in your skin. Do you recognise your privilege? It's not common.

Yeah, funny how old Ed isn’t claimed as trans/nb isn’t it?

Surely she meets the criteria.

In what way are trans woman "actual woman"
Please do describe when they become women and how.

You can use cis as a descriptor for those women who's gender aligns with their sex, the vast majority of us dont know what a gender is. So if you could clear that up too, we can all pack up and go home.

StephanieSuperpowers · 02/06/2023 17:25

I think it would be brilliant if you could tell us, in addition to the process by which men can become women, you can explain to us how you arrived at that understanding.

Ourladycheesusedatum · 02/06/2023 17:33

TeaKlaxon · 02/06/2023 12:31

Of course cisgender means not transgender.

Cisgender means someone who does not have a gender identity at odds with sex assigned at birth.

OP does not have a gender identity at odds with sex assigned at birth (she may well believe she has no gender identity at all but that amounts to the same thing for these purposes).

Errrr really?

I absolutely do not have a gender identity, however if you want to describe one I might find I do, lost it down the back of the sofa maybe?

Ask Ed Gein.

I am having a double reaction to that, part laugh out loud and part eeeeuuurrrggghhh!

TheFretfulPorpentine · 02/06/2023 17:42

Can anyone clarify how sex is assigned at birth? Presumably there are quotas. Who assigns the sex? Is it the midwife or the hospital administrator? Does the mother get any say at all? Does the assigning person go "eeny meeny miny mo"?

Thelnebriati · 02/06/2023 17:43

So instead of saying 'gender roles make many people feel so uncomfortable they wish they were the opposite sex' we have to come up with some convoluted linguistic nonsense and all pretend to believe it?

#nothankyou

MagicSpring · 02/06/2023 17:43

*TeaKlaxon · Today 12:21

Why, though?

Why do we need a word for 'feminine males' that also encompasses 'couldn't give a shit about gender' female people?

I actually didn't know anything about Gein until I googled to check who it was who did the skin thing.

Yes, it seems he was trans.

And some people think the earth is flat. The evidence does not support your belief.

DeanElderberry · 02/06/2023 18:17

If someone has decided to retrospectively turn cis into an acronym will they do the same to trans? Totally Realistic About Natural Sciences ? ? ? or maybe something else.

DeanElderberry · 02/06/2023 18:18

Oh and thank whoever it was who mentioned Gein - he really was comfortable in skin, wasn't he?
