"To suggest that being trans requires a specific type of transition is to enforce a hierarchy that is ultimately elitist."

www.theguardian.com/books/2023/may/22/i-dont-feel-like-i-was-born-into-the-wrong-body-theres-not-a-right-or-wrong-way-to-be-trans

And just like that, the Guardian eats itself.

Some absolute blinders here.

Enjoy.

Quite.

Something went wrong in 1999. Sexism seems to have gained momentum to the point where young people cannot separate the self from consumerism.

Maybe that's what the millennium bug was?

Yes! Individuality is now a consumer product; made to measure or off the shelf. And 'lifestyles' have come to be key markers of identity.

😄 thanks for the link @PronounssheRa and all the kind words about cake

Thanks @PronounssheRa

Oh I love mole 🤣🤣🤣

TinselAngel · 22/05/2023 17:07

I've never mastered winged eyeliner. Is that why I'm a boring muggle?

literalviolence · 22/05/2023 17:08

There's a lot of arrogant assumptions about what other people are like whilst ultimately describing herself as completely mainstream and normal. If young people could stop assuming they know what others feel like and actually listen, we could fill papers with actual news rather than this naval gazing nonsense. Anytime I see rubbish like this, I think the writer has just taken out a large ad to describe themselves as having an inability to properly listen and reflect. They end up looking very, very silly and very, very, very immature.

BreadInCaptivity · 22/05/2023 17:08

What a load of wank.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/05/2023 17:10

I can also see “cis” becoming an exotic and marginalised identity in the future, once everyone is trans and it’s boring.

Then, guess who will want it!

puffyisgood · 22/05/2023 17:15

blimey. that's the Hubble Space Telescope of navel gazing, right there. truly extraordinary.

literalviolence · 22/05/2023 18:01

Do you think we could get the Guardian to interview some agender (aka normal) middle-aged women and start to myth bust the ideas which young people keep putting out there about how we identify/ feel? It might help them to realise that everything they keep saying does not need a label other than 'pretty normal really' (PNR gender identity - I need my own category in sports please).

WarriorN · 22/05/2023 18:07

Mr Menno's latest rings true with this 'un

You're not your true authentic self unless you've a flag dedicated to that self. Me. Self. Me. Me. Self.

And Madison has a BA in nothing (apparently) - how valid is THAT! I'm everso impressed.

I can be anything at any point. But also, if you use the wrong pronouns I’ll probably kill myself and it’ll be your fault.

Great.

What does she imagine so-called ‘cis’ people are? Because surely every person in the world is trans by her definition. Or is trans now just a label for people who think they are so special they need a special label to show how special they are, not like boring non-special people who deserve a boring cis label so every knows they are in the out-crowd and not the in-crowd. Because you can’t tell in other way.

Absolutely this!

anyolddinosaur · 22/05/2023 20:21

This could actually be quite a useful piece for anyone worried about a child who might consider surgery. Look - you dont have to do anything, you can still be an attention seeker rainbow person.

Well a lot of them were born around then it would seem

Zeugma · 22/05/2023 20:31

I’m PMSL at the mole thing. Even DH gets the joke!

My transness is not about feeling uncomfortable in my body; it is about feeling uncomfortable with the gender that was allocated to this body.

That's what feminism's for 🙄

Exactly. Except that feminism would not make this person special (because it would apply to all 'AFAB' people, so would dissolve their/her/his private contract with patriarchy which absolutely does require that all other people put in the pink box kindly stay in that box so that this person can look different and special.

It is a giant leap backwards in women's rights, this stuff.

turbonerd · 22/05/2023 20:54

Does this have the familiar whiff of «I am not like the other girls»?

No shame in that. I was convinced of my own uniqeness far into my 30’s 😁

I am still laughing at how she was Once assigned female. Got the text Open in its own speshul tab to Marvel at it every so often.

Yes. 100% yes. NB women are pretty much exclusively not-like-the-other-girls girls. And that’s all well and good, until they follow it up with “cis women just love being put into gendered boxes, but not me for am I sooo enlightened…”

To quote a fair better poet -

^What more could you want?
For I just cannot guess.
You constantly complain to me,
You should feel blessed,
There are children in Africa starving to death,
And you don't hear them whinging.
What else can I do
To put a stop to
This mind numbing noise you are making?^

It's just privileged twaddle, isn't it? But peppered such ignorance of youth and a side serving of misogyny.

thats now my ear worm. Grin

Datdamndamp · 22/05/2023 21:41

Well. Quite the clever one. Appropriate the latest fashionable oppression of the day. Become a consultant on your own identity and get an academic position lecturing at 24.

Females might not be winning at sports but here's an avenue of success they can take.

Hope to see more of this one.

SidewaysOtter · 22/05/2023 23:10

So, we’re all trans unless we’re one of the boring cis people - cos who’d want to be one of those squares, amirite - pronouns prevent suicide and winged eyeliner is where it’s at.

Yes?

[puts head in hands and explodes like a lemming]

BluebellBlueballs · 22/05/2023 23:22

How long til it turns around and being cis I'd the new groovy thing?

Bit like having a perm in the 90s was so trendy but mid 00s it was all about the poker straight hair.

Rosebaywillow · 23/05/2023 18:25

You lot are so funny - I have been crying with laughter at your responses to this nonsense. Thank you!😂😂😂
