"To suggest that being trans requires a specific type of transition is to enforce a hierarchy that is ultimately elitist."

www.theguardian.com/books/2023/may/22/i-dont-feel-like-i-was-born-into-the-wrong-body-theres-not-a-right-or-wrong-way-to-be-trans

And just like that, the Guardian eats itself.

Some absolute blinders here.

Enjoy.

My transness is not about feeling uncomfortable in my body; it is about feeling uncomfortable with the gender that was allocated to this body.

That's what feminism's for 🙄

Yes! Perhaps at some point they will realise that it is gender that is the problem? Does they think that the rest of us females just love all those stereotypes allocated to us?

Quite.

Something went wrong in 1999. Sexism seems to have gained momentum to the point where young people cannot separate the self from consumerism.

Maybe that's what the millennium bug was?

WarriorN · 22/05/2023 14:31

Do it Turbonerd.

bellinisurge · 22/05/2023 14:33

So much wankiness here. I really hope somewhere some committed "ally" is reading that article and thinking "maybe it's just all narcissistic bullshit". Sunlight will kill this nonsense. That and US lawsuits.

Ohyoudodoyou · 22/05/2023 14:52

Oh go away idiot!

WeeBisom · 22/05/2023 15:19

It seems as if anyone will be able to self identify as trans for any reason, and so trans will become as meaningless a concept as “woman”. I can also see “cis” becoming an exotic and marginalised identity in the future, once everyone is trans and it’s boring. My view is that young women are identifying as non binary because it’s unfathomable to them that they can actually campaign and change society, so all they can do is change themselves and hope their declaration of a non binary identity saves them from the worst abuses that women get subjected to.

Cheekymaw · 22/05/2023 15:30

I used to dream of being a writer /poet type . Wasn't the sort of thing that happened round my area and to be honest, I was shite. But by beejeebus, her poems... 😆

Distractable · 22/05/2023 15:34

Read this earlier. Should be used as an example in the dictionary definition of word salad. eye roll emoji

borogovia · 22/05/2023 15:44

Isn't this evidence that the ideology is dying? She has to claim to be somehow trans, as that is the belief system of her friends. But what she is claiming to is little more than a fashion statement.

RealityFan · 22/05/2023 15:45

I was going to say this article was "sheer poetry", but what I really meant was "bin fire".

They all need to get jobs and give their brains some real stimulation.

Precisely!

InvisibleDragon · 22/05/2023 16:04

Every trans person I know has a unique relationship with how their body moves through the world – as does every cisgender person I know. The labels we use are a personal choice, and the language we choose for ourselves deserves to be heard. As Nevo Zisin writes: “Pronoun use is not political correctness, it is suicide prevention.”

That paragraph did not end how I expected it to.

Jellycats4life · 22/05/2023 16:09

The definition of “trans joy” or “gender euphoria” just keep getting wider and wider.

Gender euphoria is not only experienced by trans folk; it can be a community act, it can be wearing a new jumpsuit, it can be changing from the soprano to alto parts when you sing your favourite song on the freeway

What… the actual… fuck 🤣 Pretentious twaddle.

ILoveToSquanderPromise · 22/05/2023 16:14

To quote a fair better poet -

^What more could you want?
For I just cannot guess.
You constantly complain to me,
You should feel blessed,
There are children in Africa starving to death,
And you don't hear them whinging.
What else can I do
To put a stop to
This mind numbing noise you are making?^

It's just privileged twaddle, isn't it? But peppered such ignorance of youth and a side serving of misogyny.

I might just!
Thanks for the encouragement.

Is it also Gender Euphoria when you sing along, loudly, to what you think is the chorus, but is in fact that annoying second verse you always forget about?

Must it be sung on the freeway? Will a quiet country lane do?

I have so many questions, I do hope this person will pop up here for an AMA!!

Firsttimecaller · 22/05/2023 16:22

"Just remember you are absolutely unique. Just like everyone else."
I've been throwing this Margaret Meade quote at the special & brave ones since I first heard of trans ideology. It all just feels like self-centred self-serving confusion.

RealityFan · 22/05/2023 16:23

Can I make a positive note here? I really think us "rationals" should take real heart from the word salad/pretentious twaddle we've just all read from one of the "irrationals".

I think the very fact the gender identity concept is imploding in this person's narrative means that from the TRA vantage point, the shark is being jumped, the elephant in the room has taken a giant dump.

If this sensitive artiste is articulating trans as to mean nothing at all, just ephemera that can mean all things to all men/women/NB, then it becomes a facile concept even to the movement promoting it.

Rather than this novel re-interpretation strengthening the idea by broadening it's base (like any decent and substantial idea), it's actually revealing the philosophy is built on sand, unstable foundations, shallow logic.

So I propose that rather than be jarred again by these idiots, rejoice in the garbled language of the clown car coming off the road.

Just a matter of time.

As if trans activism wasn't "have your cake and eat it, and anyone who doesn't like cake or the liking of cake is transphobic" bad enough, now the subject has "evolved" into "cake can be anything the cake eater wants it to be, the cake might not even be cake, but if you even discuss the finer points of cake, or whether cake is indeed cake, you're transphobic".

Or something.

I think, on the whole, that I'd rather discuss the finer points of cake if that's ok.

I've just realised...this is Mumsnet, yes? And you guys (misgender deliberate) love cake?
I've gone and done it now...

Saisong · 22/05/2023 16:46

Mole at the Door has done an absolutely fab send up of this on twatter. I can't seem to get the link right, can anyone else?
