Childline - Safeguarding Concerns?

DerekFaker · 18/05/2023 21:25

James Esses has been looking into Childline and has uncovered some concerning things.

I'll post links to each tweet and the external links in each, and also provide screenshots

I also archived this thread... Not that I'm paranoid or anything...!

LizzieSiddal · 18/05/2023 22:19

Let’s hope a newspaper start’s investigating this because iirc there have been concerns for quite some time and nothing has been done.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 18/05/2023 22:42

An absolute disgrace. Allowing gender fanatics to use Childline to push their own regressive beliefs at often mentally unwell / confused children.
Shame on the bloody lot of them.

MrsJamin · 19/05/2023 06:21

What an absolute clusterf**k of safeguarding. Why are there no responsible adults who work there? Why did someone not whistleblow? How many children will have been irrevocably damaged because of this poor care from what should have been a safe place?

ResisterRex · 19/05/2023 07:50

This has been picked up by Mark Jenkinson:

twitter.com/markjenkinsonmp/status/1659276609512263682?s=46&t=WHoOZ_3Kv5G6-FyQuvE0LQ

I hope he takes it further ie a question in Parliament because this has gone on a long time, and the NSPCC has statutory safeguarding powers, so it really matters.

mirax · 19/05/2023 08:45

The Safe Schools Alliance is focused on two specific issues, sex education and 'gender ideology'. Safeguarding covers much more than these two issues, however this group seems unconcerned about any other safeguarding issue. They are a pressure group, similar to Tipper Gore's PMRC or Phyllis Schlafly's Eagle Forum of the 80's and 90's. Of course these groups are firmly part of the debate, but they are not the broad based safeguarding efforts of say the SCIE.

Someone wrote this on a UK blog I help to edit. I am not from the UK. Pls help with information on the SCIE.

nilsmousehammer · 19/05/2023 08:46

What an absolute mess.

mirax · 19/05/2023 08:59

My interim answer :
The "Look Squirrels over there!" diversion again. The SSA has a specific remit as you note and it is entirely relevant to sexuality and sex identity education in school and this the BBC article we are all discussing. You seek to discredit the SSA by linking to two completely different organisations from another era and another country - what is the purpose of that other than your absolute disregard for the children we are discussing?
For bystanders here is the SCIE - which deals with such a broad spectrum of issues that it is almost completely unfit to cope with the new and specific topic that the SSA deals with.
https://www.scie.org.uk/saf...

But I want to nail this mf to the wall. Appreciate any help.

I think I'd avoid getting drawn into much more than that. Your reply is fine as it is and it seems like the original post was intended to derail the discussion. Don't let it.

Thanks. This person has a habit of doing thus and it is exasperating to say the least.

'There are 15,000 posts on Childline’s Gender Identity Board. It is filled with dangerous advice and opinions. This is even though Childline claim to ‘check every message’. Adults could easily access these boards.'

I wonder how many moderators they have on their internet forum? I suspect not enough.

Datun · 19/05/2023 12:43

The NSPCC lost all credibility when they didn't seem bothered that one of their employees was indulging in his rubber and urination fetish at work, and uploading the results on to a porn site.

They accused people who were objecting of homophobia. Bizarrely. As no one even knew he was gay.

This was the man who was only identified as a result of him being the person who hired Munroe Bergdorf to be an NSPCC ambassador.

Munroe Bergdorf who saw nothing wrong with a child twerking in a drag queen club.

There is something very wrong at the NSPCC.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 19/05/2023 12:46

Glad to see this being bumped. The charities charged with supporting our vulnerable children openly enabling dangerous, self harming, homophobic behaviour and beliefs.

ResisterRex · 19/05/2023 16:23

Things the DfE does have time for:

Schools to warn pupils that vaping is addictive and dangerous

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/e41ee0ce-f630-11ed-9ecf-630e5864e3c3?shareToken=4ad85180189245e7b1b56e919cc785e0

OK, it's bad for you. So is encouraging children to dissociate from their own bodies, and providing dangerous, unevidenced advice through what should be trusted source.

Get this:

"The government will issue teachers with briefing packs on the dangers of vaping in the coming weeks, with children to be warned about the addictiveness of nicotine and evidence that young people’s developing brains may be more sensitive to its effects."

I wonder what else is damaging for young brains connected to this thread? 🤔

I also wonder when the hell teachers get time to do things like teach maths and geography.

Telegraph

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/05/19/childline-give-children-advice-trans-hormones-breastbinders/

Childline website's trans community tells teenagers to take hormone blockers in secret

"Critics said the charity – which is partly funded by government grantss_ – had failed in its safeguarding duty by allowing its website to be hijacked by the transgender lobby as a platform for “harmful” advice.
The Charity Commission said it was “aware of concerns” about Childline and was currently deciding whether to investigate."
"The messages were highlighted on social media by James Esses, a former Childline counsellor who was asked to leave after raising concerns that the charity had been captured by the trans lobby.

"The website’s Ask Sam service – written by Childline staff – advised that some transgender people bind their breasts to get over the problem, adding that it should be done in consultation with a doctor because “wearing something tight on your chest can cause medical problems and physical damage”.

All of the messages are moderated before they are published, according to Childline."
"A spokesman for the Charity Commission said: “We are aware of concerns about Childline’s service provision and are assessing the information to determine whether or not this is a matter for the Commission.”

An NSPCC spokesman said: “Childline is – and has always been – here for every child, no matter the issue or concern. Our trained counsellors provide support and impartial advice to children and young people to explore their feelings in a non-directive way. They offer advice on how to cope with worries, how to discuss concerns with trusted adults in their lives and they signpost to available external support. We stand by our approach.”"

zibzibara · 19/05/2023 20:33

This is awful. Is there any children's charity left that hasn't been captured by this toxic ideology?

Justjuniper · 19/05/2023 21:11

It’s hard to believe the Charity Commission itself wouldn’t have been captured, maybe even targeted first as a strategic move. Does anyone know or have any indications of this?

It's great news that a mainstream paper has picked up on this.

Come on BBC..... you know you can do it...... 🤞🤞🤞🤞

ArabeIIaScott · 19/05/2023 22:34

Well done, Telegraph. I'm glad at least one paper seems to be taking this stuff seriously.
