Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

A look at 'trans hostile feminism' by Ash Sarker interviewing transwoman Abigail Thorn

-Ash Sarker interviews Abigail Thorn @ PhilosophyTube it is quite revealing (If you skip to 29 mins where their critique of ‘trans hostile feminism’ begins!)

Sarker: “What is the motivating animus behind trans hostile feminists -why are they so angry and upset?”
“...Many of them say ‘if trans ideology had been around when I was growing up I would have been forced to become a transman what that reveals is that we are very fucked up by gender, cis people experience living under the regime of gender -cis gender woman first experience of sexual harassment by much older men are when you are at primary school, living in this horrible regime of gender then along come transpeople and you go.. Wait, so you are happy?”

-What is a regime of gender? Who is doing the sexual harassing? Is this the new language replacement for ‘patriarchy’? It seems to get so muddy and unclear when you can’t say that women suffer discrimination on the basis of their sex.

Thorn: “Transpeople reveal a great truth by existing if you want to change sex you can so sexual hierarchy is a made up construct...But if you get something out of the regime you might think that replacing it is scary”

So sex based oppression doesn’t exist, we all are acting a role and complying with it.
If it does exist then the differences between the sexes are immaterial, women disadvantaged through realities of childbirth, physical strength and subject to male sexual violence - no problem this is irrelevant as can just swap our sex over, the “sexual hierarchy” does not exist after all.

just to add that Thorn seems to be something of a narcissist:

(Of C8S women) “I would even use the word jealousy, ..my lazar tech was a gorgeous woman but she said to me ‘I’m so jealous of you, you are so tall!’…

Saker picks up on this and play-acts the female friend and flatters Thorn which is quite cringy “Ahh you are flexing on a 5Foot 2” Bengali woman, thanks!”

'Abigale' is a MI5 operative, has anyone told Ash?

sexual hierarchy is a made up construct

So anyone can just identify out of it. And women won't need to worry anymore!

Brilliant. Can't imagine what I've been havering on about all these years - next time a bloke in the street worries me, I'll just say to him 'Oi, mate, I don't identify as a woman, so stop hassling me'. And everyone will applaud and say 'you go, girl' or in fact 'you go, non-binary person', and I will smile.

Brilliant!
Proves the whole schtick is performative BS.

I saw a clip where Thorne said gender critical feminists are actively ignorant, and refuse to hear the truth. For example, the “truth” that there’s more than two sexes (in the animal/ plant kingdom? Sure. In humans? No, Abigail, it’s not a fact that every scientist agrees there are more than two sexes!) then there’s the truth that Thorne has succeeded in changing sex (I would say Thorne has successfully altered some secondary sexual characteristics, but this isn’t the same thing as literally changing sex. They still perform the male reproductive role.)

and apparently we deny the truth that self ID has caused absolutely zero problems in countries where it’s been rolled out (ignoring all the rapists in women’s prisons and the fact that our objection doesn’t even depend on bad consequences, we just think women’s spaces should be free of the male sex to begin with.)

It really reminds me of those evangelical Christian preachers who say that atheists are deliberately turning away from gods truth. That the truth is right there but they choose to deny it.

Boiledbeetle · 17/05/2023 11:35

"I myself have changed sex"

Grrrrrrr😠 No mate you haven't. FFS.

'Context
Along with partners at the Challenging Pseudoscience Group at the Royal Institution, Valent sought to cut through the noise of public debate around vaccines and understand and address the views of the voluntarily unvaccinated
Approach
By using machine learning to undertake cluster analysis of publicly accessible data from popular online anti-vaccination spaces, Valent was able to identify dominant character typologies. Following that, specialists at Telltale Research designed and conducted an ethnographic study of selected representatives of those typologies. The study revealed distinct worldviews behind vaccine hesitancy which are usually unstated in online debate. Valent presented the audience insights to YouTuber Abigail Thorn, who designed video content intended to engage the vaccine hesitant on their own terms.

  1. Identification of the online spaces, in which the particular narratives were being propagated
  2. Organisation and processing of the publicly accessible data
  3. Analysis of the resulting typologies
  4. Creation of media strategies based on evidence
  5. Monitoring for impact
Results The research resulted in a video titled , which was uploaded to Abigail’s Youtube channel in January 2022. Valent’s monitoring of the reactions to the video demonstrated overwhelmingly positive and open minded engagement, which is rare in online discussion when it comes to divisive issues, such as Covid.'

The idea of using someone like Thorn, a key source of TRA propaganda, to combat "misinformation" is chilling.

Cue him becoming fact checker on trans stories for the BBC.

BigMaggieShoes · 17/05/2023 13:39

Maybe Ash should go and find out what other trans women think of Abigail here. Contrapoints, for example, who Olly has modelled himself rather obviously on, may have a story or two that proves his misogyny extends to trans women.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/05/2023 13:44

Contrapoints is male, so not affected by Thorn's misogyny, but I can believe that Thorn is an arsehole towards other MTFs.

YouJustDoYou · 17/05/2023 13:49

All the trans activist are insane, no one sane could ever listen to the bullshit they spout/make up and not grimace at their reality-denying delusions.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/05/2023 14:07

So why are government organisations looking to Thorn to combat misinformation about other issues?

Ohnohedident · 18/05/2023 07:52

Generally understood to be a 'tell' of someone who is lying.

Ohnohedident · 18/05/2023 07:53

Even 'Abigale' does not believe 'Abigale's' bullshit.

"Challenging Pseudoscience" my arse

It is remarkable really. How some people think they use that word pseudoscience completely unironically, or unhypocritically.

Doesn’t this male actor also award themselves the label of philosopher? I recently saw a discussion between philosophy professors about who could call themselves ‘Philosphers’. The bar is very very high. And seems to require many papers published and years lecturing with a PhD.
