A look at 'trans hostile feminism' by Ash Sarker interviewing transwoman Abigail Thorn

-Ash Sarker interviews Abigail Thorn @ PhilosophyTube it is quite revealing (If you skip to 29 mins where their critique of ‘trans hostile feminism’ begins!)

Sarker: “What is the motivating animus behind trans hostile feminists -why are they so angry and upset?”
“...Many of them say ‘if trans ideology had been around when I was growing up I would have been forced to become a transman what that reveals is that we are very fucked up by gender, cis people experience living under the regime of gender -cis gender woman first experience of sexual harassment by much older men are when you are at primary school, living in this horrible regime of gender then along come transpeople and you go.. Wait, so you are happy?”

-What is a regime of gender? Who is doing the sexual harassing? Is this the new language replacement for ‘patriarchy’? It seems to get so muddy and unclear when you can’t say that women suffer discrimination on the basis of their sex.

Thorn: “Transpeople reveal a great truth by existing if you want to change sex you can so sexual hierarchy is a made up construct...But if you get something out of the regime you might think that replacing it is scary”

So sex based oppression doesn’t exist, we all are acting a role and complying with it.
If it does exist then the differences between the sexes are immaterial, women disadvantaged through realities of childbirth, physical strength and subject to male sexual violence - no problem this is irrelevant as can just swap our sex over, the “sexual hierarchy” does not exist after all.

just to add that Thorn seems to be something of a narcissist:

(Of C8S women) “I would even use the word jealousy, ..my lazar tech was a gorgeous woman but she said to me ‘I’m so jealous of you, you are so tall!’…

Saker picks up on this and play-acts the female friend and flatters Thorn which is quite cringy “Ahh you are flexing on a 5Foot 2” Bengali woman, thanks!”

Sorry, who's Olly?

I'm so dense, lol.

zibzibara · 16/05/2023 18:41

The real name of that woman impersonator.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/05/2023 18:46

Hard agree, @zibzibara

Abhannmor · 16/05/2023 18:55

Ash seemed refreshing and smart a few years ago. But so did Owen Jones. But I should have known better - wind the clock on 20 years and she'll be in the Lords. Sitting with that other old commie Baroness Claire Fox.

The Royal Grammar School Thorn went to is known to be a hotbed of misogyny; it was recently in the bbc for tackling misogyny fan boying of Tate.

Boys had Tate emails going to their school email etc.

Thorn claims to want girls to have the opportunity to have opinions on philosophies and political issues.

Hmm, yes we do dear.

RealityFan · 16/05/2023 18:58

Well, she's here to rescue you all from your tiny lady minds.

WarriorN · 16/05/2023 18:59

The main use of the RGS is it does a good summer school child care thingy. Or did before the pandemic <sigh>

"They fear what they don't understand .. transphobia is an organised deliberate ignorance"

I dunno, maybe (definitely) I'm old but I don't think it's that difficult to understand what men are getting up to when they squeeze themselves into tight latex and pretend they have breasts.

Thorn's problem and Sarker's too is that they are too stupid to have developed any self awareness.

nocoolnamesleft · 16/05/2023 19:00

When are they going to look at the misogynistic women hostile transactivism? they could do a great expose!

Ourladycheesusedatum · 16/05/2023 19:16

then along come transpeople and you go.. Wait, so you are happy

Well some certainly seem to be happy, Fionne? Blair? Miranda yardley? Spl?

Most however seem to be incredibly unhappy and very very angry. Possibly they were this way pre transitioning, but then surely after, they would feel better and at least be less angry?

RoyalCorgi · 16/05/2023 19:17

"They fear what they don't understand .. transphobia is an organised deliberate ignorance"

This is rather rich coming from people who believe men can become women, and vice versa.

When entitled arses like Sarkar and Thorn get together all they are really doing is signalling their supposed high social status and luxury beliefs to their "in-group" while attempting to laundering their own privilege - one by claiming a special identity and the other by allying for "the most oppressed".

More communal narcissist. There's a lot of it about these days sadly...

nilsmousehammer · 16/05/2023 19:27

It's the antithesis of ignorance.

And the height of misogyny and delusion to be able to block out anything women say, any information they share about their reasons, their experience, their problems with the situation, and to assume the reason they are not joyfully embracing being trampled on by men because they have not yet understood the men enough .

What they cannot get their heads around is that women are not walking penis enablers.

Abigail Thorn says that you don't need to have dysphoria to be trans, but you should get whatever medical treatments you want anyway.

Blah. They’ve muddled the ideology/terminology/beliefs intentionally so at any given moment it can all mean whatever they want it to mean. It’s all a bunch of balls.

Absolutely

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/05/2023 01:23

What they cannot get their heads around is that women are not walking penis enablers.

To males like Thorn, women are props in the background.

Hepwo · 17/05/2023 01:33

He's his own "woman" prop now, he's gone full theatrical immersion. What I find fascinating is the face slimming photo shopping. Behind all that must be hours in the mirror. It's his idea of a non capitalist sticking it to the man job. Looking at your face in the mirror all day and pretending to see something else.

Can we calculate the GDP impact?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/05/2023 01:38

He's the main character, we're the props.

Pallisers · 17/05/2023 02:51

Yeah like this shite actually matters in Afghanistan and Iran. You can't identify out of your oppression there can you?

nilsmousehammer · 17/05/2023 07:27

Well in Iran, if you agree that you're 'born in the wrong body' and submit to surgery, they won't kill you for being homosexual.

My blood ran cold when I realised where that little phrase originated from and in what context.

WarriorN · 17/05/2023 07:38

Is that where it's from?!

Wow. Jfc.

zibzibara · 17/05/2023 09:22

I'm not sure that's where it orginates. Transsexuals were talking about being "born in the wrong body" at least back in the early 1970s, but according to this article Iran only started allowing penis-to-hole surgery after a fatwa issued in the 1980s.

ArabeIIaScott · 17/05/2023 09:46

sexual hierarchy is a made up construct

So anyone can just identify out of it. And women won't need to worry anymore!

Brilliant. Can't imagine what I've been havering on about all these years - next time a bloke in the street worries me, I'll just say to him 'Oi, mate, I don't identify as a woman, so stop hassling me'. And everyone will applaud and say 'you go, girl' or in fact 'you go, non-binary person', and I will smile.
