Emily Thornberry
Got to say it, Penny Mordaunt
looks damn fine! The sword bearer steals the show. #Coronation
https://twitter.com/EmilyThornberry/status/1654811459673640960
(apparently PM had to do wieght training to undertake the role of sword bearer!!)

And Princess Anne (the best monarch we never had) chatted to poor Harry stuck in a back row and wore an amazing hat before leaving early to jump on her horse to help guard her brother against possibly rowdy republicans

Sorry for anyone who thinks it inappropriate to be frivalous on FWR and / or about the Coronation, but the rain has cancelled my plans and am just catching up with the events earlier today which I forgot about!

I thought Princess Anne arrived at the Abbey with the swagger of Lord Flashheart. She is magnificent!

Princess Anne did the job superbly. Not Penny Mordaunt’s greatest fan but she did very well today - possibly the dress was a bit low cut for the occasion - though otherwise it was a great design.

Definitelyrandom · 06/05/2023 23:32

No idea why the GiF appeared above…..

She really wouldn't. She's a consummate liar with hard TWAW beliefs and reality denier. My fear atm is that the Tories will get rid of Sunak following their catastrophic losses in the LEs and she will be his replacement.

She is the worst of both worlds.

Sunak has been unimpressive as PM but they wont get rid of him, they don't have anyone decent and untainted. The last leadership election was dreadful in terms of choice, I can't see how the options have improved since then. The TWAW is going to be the undoing of a lot of politicians. I am not voting for anyone that won't guarantee women's rights.

Anyone who didn't have a teeny tiny crush on Penny or Princess Anne today isn't human

That crystallises my thoughts on the Princess Royal perfectly. She does what she wants to do and gives no fucks about what anyone else thinks. Like her dad minus the racism and misogyny and with her mothers quiet sense of duty.

Another fantastic woman, Dame Elizabeth Anionwu (with the orb), fantastic leader in nursing and specialist in sickle cell https://twitter.com/EAnionwu

I dislike Mourdant's views on gender ideology and I dislike Thornberry's views on quite a few things. I'm glad Mourdant isn't PM.

However, I thought Mourdant did a great job today (and during the events following the Queen's death, for that matter). I also think Mourdant and Thornberry both have excellent speaking voices.

Just so nobody thinks I am totally frivilous (which is what happens when you dont read the news and rely on twitter for facts) here is a more serious acknowledgement of women who were part of the coronation https://nycaribnews.com/2023/05/king-charles-coronation-key-roles-for-caribbean-women/

It was lovely to see. The significance of them wearing natural non pressed, chemically straightened hair should not be underestimated. Representation matters especially when it does not bow to ethnically motivated and pushed standards of beauty.

İ can't find a clip of it, but did anyone notice Peter Jones from Dragons Den riding in front of the King's carriage?

Sausagenbacon · 07/05/2023 08:32

And how do they all go so long without needing a pee?
Tena pads. That's what women who similar events tell me.
About the sword. I think that, round her neck, she would have been wearing a decorative harness to support the sword at the base.

I pee so much I’d fill a pad!

Agreed. It made the Coronation so much more special and meaningful that they were there.

She had a support for the sword at the beginning (it was a fancier version of the ones we had for carrying the flag in brownies) but not later, as she left she was holding it unsupported

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 07/05/2023 09:22

as a person of a certain age I was delighted to see Floella Benjamin in the coverage, and thought she looked amazing in her robes. Wiki tells me she is 73!

Rainallnight · 07/05/2023 09:34

PM looked amazing. And I’m an actual lesbian, so can legit fancy her (and have done for years 😳)

I loved her outfit but this tweet made me chuckle

looks like mum's gone to poundland

TiredOfCleaning · 07/05/2023 17:33

Not a fan of PM's views on gender ideology.

But she was magnificent and I always think she is a dead ringer for Catherine Deneuvre who I have had a girl crush on for decades.

Thats who it is! She is a strong handsome woman.

The scene with the lighter , unsheathed sword , looks very horror movie. Like she is about to unleash carnage on the royal household!

Enshrined in the Gender Recognition Act 2004 is the right for the rich and powerful to ignore the lie that humans can change sex. On this #Coronationday we are reminded that only us silly plebs are compelled to believe men can be women.

I was glad to see so many women taking part in the coronation. I do love the Poundland comments but I think Penny Mordaunt chose well to find something that looked ceremonial but smart. I loved Princess Anne riding horseback back to the Palace.
