Debate relating to the definition of “sex” in the Equality Act 2010 will be in Westminster Hall on 12 June 2023 4:30pm

Just posting this as on a thread elsewhere I made some disparaging remarks that the debate will be shuffled off to some small committee room.

But they must think that more than a few MPs are wanting to take part as I have just seen it will be in Westminster Hall.

Will be interesting to see which MPs are willing to state views about the reality of biological sex in public!

Event will be broadcast live.

This is outrageous. How can he draw parallels with America?

chilling19 · 12/06/2023 18:20

TL - Tim Loughton (Conservative) now

IwantToRetire · 12/06/2023 18:20

Yet again. Women dont count. Everyone else matters more.

See the thing is, before all this blew up I liked Luke Pollard. I listen to him now and just get more and more angry. Absolute jelly brains. I wish someone would ask him what non-binary was and can he define it in law.

ACatCalledPushka · 12/06/2023 18:20

Wow Pollard so unaware of how homophobic GI is.

Boiledbeetle · 12/06/2023 18:20

ooh OXFAM got a mention

Nick Fletcher leading on safeguarding.

NF, although not the most engaging speaker, spoke lucidly, tellingly and with such detailed knowledge.
Very powerful.

BiliousOhGod · 12/06/2023 18:20

Ooo, Oxfam reference! Yes!

Slothtoes · 12/06/2023 18:20

Luke Pollard MP from Plymouth has just actually stooped down to ‘first they came’
how dare he
And he just said: ‘I see them, I hear them, they should be loved and supported and protected in law’ Jesus Christ.
Has anyone EVER once said this about women?

OvaHere · 12/06/2023 18:20

Luke Pollard has a majority of less than 5000. Come on Plymouth women you know what to do next election!

MrsOvertonsWindow · 12/06/2023 18:20

Surely his "there are non binary women & non binary men" comment is the most serious bigotry and eradication of NB people?

For clarity and change

SabrinaThwaite · 12/06/2023 18:21

Tim Loughton being clear on protected characteristics.

ResisterRex · 12/06/2023 18:21

Not been able to follow it very closely but it sounds like some Tory MPs have been well briefed, AND like Labour - or Jess Phillips in the interests of Jess Phillips - might be starting to take this seriously now. Obviously they still seem to have a disproportionate amount of utter fuckwits on this topic but even so.

Boiledbeetle · 12/06/2023 18:21

clear and fair womens sport

WarriorN · 12/06/2023 18:22

I'm way behind.

Thought Jess Philips made good points actually. She's still a tad on the fence and avoided acknowledging the TRAs self Id stance. But her points were women centric.

Started shedding a tear when the man who held up Joyce and stock's books started speaking.❤️

Then was interrupted for snacks again.

Felt Kirsty Blackman was proper telt.

The Tories are crushing it

IwantToRetire · 12/06/2023 18:22

Oh no, Tories speaking about facts.

Noto relying on emotional glib phrases to tug at our heart strings.

This guy is great

Really good speaking

SabrinaThwaite · 12/06/2023 18:23

Loughton has done his homework on women’s sport and is outlining it clearly.

Yes. I'm impressed at how well informed most of the speakers have been, very clear, very knowledgeable, very direct.

And I'm STILL absorbing Jess Phillips' turnaround.

This is good. Whatever happens on this debate, more Labour MPs are speaking up for women.

If we don't secure clarity this time round, but Labour are coming round, then things will be Very Much Better than they could be otherwise.

chilling19 · 12/06/2023 18:23

I never thought I would be cheering on the Tories. FGS Labour get your heads out of your arses.

ArabeIIaScott · 12/06/2023 18:19

I think Angela Eagle topped out my rage o meter.

I thought she had mine, but then Pollard stepped up.

Thankful he's followed by someone talking sense and most importantly, understands the matter being debated and why sex needs to be clarified as biological.

Pluvia · 12/06/2023 18:24

Ramblingnamechanger · 12/06/2023 18:10

So many traitorous lesbians in the room…

Yes. Some of them sound like the 'friends' we (DP and I) held dear for 20+ years who now cross the road to avoid us and condemn us for hate speech. I can't begin to express how painful it is to see lesbians like Angela Eagle who have fallen for this shit.

If they will lie about something as immutable and obvious as sex, is there anything they won't lie about?

CriticalCondition · 12/06/2023 18:24

He's going fast to make sure he gets it all in. But nailing it. Good effort.
