There's an interesting case going on with regard to a parent suing the ICO for not forcing SSE to give her details of their lesson plans as used in schoools.
I'm waiting for the cross examination on the playdough vulva (might have happened already - I'm catching up with the posts)

I get the feeling DP is a useful idiot, who's been fed a line(s) to trot out if/when challenged. I suspect she herself doesn't have full knowledge of the materials. Plausible deniability or something, IDK.

She's certainly not coming across as the sharpest tool in the box.

Skimmed the latest tweets. Just because some kids are doing xyz or watching abc under age, surely they can't just assume they all are, and introducing things in an age inappropriate age is just, well, inappropriate?

This.

Honestly I think I’d have been completely mortified if I’d had this type of sex education at school. I was so shy and wary of boys. There’s no way that I’d have been fine sitting in a classroom discussing oral or anal sex. I didn’t even become sexually active until I was nineteen and I really don’t feel like I missed out by not being educated (beyond pretty basic sex ed) when at school.

Boiledbeetle · 03/05/2023 18:30

Having now caught up

What a shower of bloody idiots!

It's the same issues we saw with mermaids. These organisations seem incapable of understanding that children look at stuff on line. And not just on their site but the sites of their staff. And WTF having a member of staff who does soft porn and then teaches kids is not on. Amongst other things.

Theses organisations have lost the plot

There is a government study that concluded that most girls are not interested in anal sex.

The same study found most boys know this, but continued to pressure them anyway.

I wonder if these sex educators came anywhere near addressing that?

i'm going to go with my hunch, and say no...

MrsOvertonsWindow · 03/05/2023 18:49

Chilling to see an adult displaying so clearly their lack of understanding about children - assuming that children in a class are identikits. Zero insight that they differ in terms of cognitive ability, emotional and physical development, life experiences, religion etc, let alone safeguarding and age appropriate. It's why sex ed in schools should by definition be "conservative" and careful - because it must be pitched at a level that isn't age inappropriate or traumatising for some.

That's why strangers with an agenda (be it their own sexual interests or financial business to push) should be nowhere near children and sex ed in schools.

Sorry, not wanting to put you on the spot but you have a link to this? I’d like to share this with my DP as he’s been led to believe most girls love it despite my objections. I just can’t think of how to search for this without getting a lot of dodgy links.

I don't have it to hand. But it was pencilsinspace who posted it. If you search on her name (she's name changed since then), you will find it, or you could message her.

The School of Sexuality Education - I wonder if they teach Comprehensive Sexuality Education so beloved of WHO and UNESCO? The stuff which states all children are sexual beings & entitled to sexual knowledge and experience?

The material really needs to be made available!

I'm sure UNESCO was mentioned today on one of the tweets. Don't hold me to that though, as a source they used

Datun · 03/05/2023 19:24

Sorry CountZacular, I meant to add, that this is the problem.

Pornography has led men to believe that women want nothing more than a fast and furious bit of bum sex.

which is not the case.

Don't get me wrong, if you like anal, knock yourself out. I'm all for women having the sex they want, when they want, with whom they want.

When I was a teenager, all the magazines were filled with articles telling men how to give a woman an orgasm, how to locate a clitoris without a torch light and a map, and it was all about giving her pleasure. Something that had been entirely absent, for a long time.

Things are very much changed, now.

IMO teens would benefit from sex educators telling the class that pornography is unrealistic, misogynistic, and not a manual.

And giving girls the vocabulary to draw their boundaries and maintain them.

IcakethereforeIam · 03/05/2023 19:35

The Guardian had an article about the risks of anal sex specific to women's health. I don't have time at the moment., but if anyone wants to read it I'll try to find it later. I think there was a thread about it.

Zeugma · 03/05/2023 20:13

The background to this whole case was discussed on here a few weeks ago when someone from the SSE was on a R4 programme with Tanya Carter from the Safe Schools Alliance. The very informative thread is still there.

Faffertea · 03/05/2023 20:47

I wish I could say the way these people putting themselves forwards as experts when they have no idea about basic principles of child safeguarding was unbelievable but it really isn’t anymore.

And by her own statement Dolly Padalia is the safeguarding lead and writes their safeguarding policy!! No input from anyone else because she’s an expert and the NSPCC check it. So that’s ok then. They’ve never made any questionable decisions….

AlisonDonut · 03/05/2023 21:13

Head teachers do know about safeguarding though. Is this all being let through because so many schools are now being run by academies and accountants who just look at the bottom line and ticking a box rather than at what the content actually is?

I'd never ever have hidden any content from teachers that I was delivering in schools. It's a huge red flag and for good reason.

ResisterRex · 03/05/2023 21:33

This apparently is a good page for updates, including gardening, tweets, and press coverage. But also timing:

"Status

There was a study of teens and anal sex in the BMJ a few years ago: https://bmjopen.bmj.com/content/suppl/2014/08/18/bmjopen-2014-004996.DC1/bmjopen-2014-004996_Press_Release.pdf

I do wonder when the government decided to make sex ed compulsory and schools decided to bring in external organisations what sort of people would be attracted to talking about sex with children.

It's almost a case of if you want the job you shouldn't get it isn't it?

Boiledbeetle · 03/05/2023 22:47

I don't see why we can't just go back to the science teacher doing it as part of biology lessons and then sticking on the video that I have vague recollections of.

Even if most girls (well, women surely?) love it, you don't so you shouldn't need to prove survey results to stop him trying to coerse you into it.
