Is anyone here going?
I booked train tickets a while ago and am looking forward to it but starting to get nervous and wonder how safe it will be?
Obviously there will be lots of tra as Posie is back for the first time since NZ.
I'm worried about escalation from the posts I've seen on Facebook/twitter.

Thank you @Datun and @DerekFaker for the info and link. I’ve just watched the video instead of taking the dog for a walk 😬.

I think TLA might be my new favourite person.

It's oddly really watchable isn't it? 😄

Faffertea · 03/05/2023 16:13

It is. He’s just so calm and polite while absolutely flat out refusing to do what the TRAs are asking him to and has no problem saying no to requests to stop filming.

It also shows what I think we all now know is something of an undercurrent in modern policing, that some Police Officers can be very sure that they are right and have no trouble asserting that position even when they are in fact in breach of their own guidelines or the law.

As for the female PC saying ‘have some respect’ I thought his response was great. Why would you respect someone who shows no respect or even basic manners to you in return?

endofthelinefinally · 03/05/2023 16:21

I just look at those young women in disbelief. When I was 24 I was delivering babies and running a 36 bed ward. When I was 22 I was responsible for a caseload of sick people in the community. That kind of behaviour wouldn't even have been on my radar. It is depressing.

Police blog post about LWS on 30 April!

Conflict averted in Hyde Park

Sunday was to prove more problematic with the focus switching to Hyde Park. The situation at issue was one which I and doubtless many others are not wholly across but had caused considerable friction over the past few months. On one side are the trans community and their allies while they have been vigorously opposed by women’s groups who hold contrary views, one of which concerns ‘safe spaces for women.’ The ‘Let Women Speak’ (LWS) campaign includes, so I’m informed, leftist Lesbian organisations. However, several faces from the far right, which included those seen protesting against the Drag Queen story-time events, were reportedly amongst the ranks of LWS.

The Trans allies include anti-fascist groups who claim that because of their hostility towards aspects of the Trans community, the LWS movement and their leader ‘Posie’ consist of Fascists. If those reading this are confused then they would be in the company of those, like me, who were observing events on Sunday.

The LWS meeting began to gather under the Reformer’s Tree and, in all honesty, the rather resembled that of a gentle Women’s Institute meeting.

A walk across the park saw the gathering of the anti-Fascist opposition. They had been instructed to bring masks and dress in nondescript clothing. Amongst several flags could be seen were those sporting LGBT colours. They numbered about 150 and suddenly set off chanting, ‘No terfs on our turf.’ (A terf is defined as a ‘trans-exclusionary radical feminist).

The masked, chanting group looked menacing as the gap between them and those under the Reformer’s Tree closed. The escorting police officers however, neatly manoeuvred the group in a direction which diverted them away from the LWS gathering whose numbers had considerably increased. Officers formed a cordon in front of the trans group who continued to chant adding ‘Who protects the fascists? The police protect the fascists,’ to their repertoire.

There were two minor scuffles during the course of the morning and, park-by laws meant that neither side was able to use a megaphone or any other amplified equipment. The LWS groups, who by now outnumbered the pro-trans, anti-fascists, were remarkably sanguine about the presence of the rivals. Their ‘leader,’ the reviled ‘Posie Parker’ aka Kellie-Jay Keen who is the head of the Standing for Women’ organisation, gathered everyone together for a series of speeches.

The pro-Trans group tried twice to outflank the police in order to somehow get to their rivals but were easily thwarted on each occasion. At one stage, LWS stewards formed a line behind the police cordon, presumably in case their masked protagonists broke through the police line but were quickly persuaded that this wasn’t necessary.

A number of pro-trans activists then caused some amusement by unfurling umbrellas and holding them in front of their already masked faces to frustrate identification by police and press.

The LWS meeting finished with cheering and applause and Posie left escorted by bodyguards, stewards and a number of her supporters. Others remained, chatting in small unconcerned groups before drifting away but not before a brief chant of ‘there’s more of us than you,’ was directed against their rivals. Whilst, as stated, the gathering had all the demeanour of a Women’s Institute event, the literature handed out to passer’s by was uncompromising in its tone.

The large police presence, complete with six mounted officers and several TSG carriers was however necessary given the animosity seen on social media which included a death threat and the fact that Posie Parker had tomato soup thrown over her at a previous event; the photos taken at the time suggested that she had been the victim of a bloody attack; a useful propaganda tool.

Yes but it finally seems they are realising we are not the antagonists.

Love that they seem a tiny bit peeved at the 'police protect the fascists line'

And the confusion at why a bunch of WI types gathering genteel-ly on a Sunday in a park are fascists.

nilsmousehammer · 04/05/2023 07:41

It is useful to have a completely objective bystander with no investment or interest in either side, quite prepared to see both sides as at fault, and to just report on the impartial evidence he sees. Shouty umbrellas very cross about a peaceful women's meeting.

(Well. Not so impartial about the police which is his main interest.)

IcakethereforeIam · 04/05/2023 09:54

I liked (not sure that's the right word) the bit of tone policing (ha!) at the end. The implication could be 'they seemed nice but, ah-ha, look at the leaflets! Fascists after all!'

BluebellBlueballs · 04/05/2023 11:09

Polices collective heads must be spinning as they are all stonewall captured are they nor?

ArabeIIaScott · 04/05/2023 11:17

'Whilst, as stated, the gathering had all the demeanour of a Women’s Institute event, the literature handed out to passer’s by was uncompromising in its tone.'

Did it refuse to use incorrect pronouns?

SinnerBoy · 04/05/2023 11:20

Rogue apostrophe spoils it a bit!

nilsmousehammer · 04/05/2023 11:23

Naughty women not willing to nicely hand over at least SOME of their rights to a bunch of screaming misogynists trying to beat them up while claiming to be absolutely harmless in women's spaces.

Alf Up A Tree has put together different footage to show what happened with the incident with the steward.

Thank you.

I have been waiting for something like this. It makes it very clear.

Helleofabore · 04/05/2023 11:54

Anyone know who it was at Sunday's event that was from the 'far right'? The fact that who ever wrote this has written rumour and not checked is just spreading misinformation. It also shows a less than symmetrical treatment of who attends LWS with the 'I am told' versus the more official sounding 'reported'.

SidewaysOtter · 04/05/2023 11:54

I can't seem to get the AUAT video to work, it keeps freezing - can anyone summarise what it shows happened? How did the steward end up near enough the protestors for them to get hold of her?

I didn't think it necessarily read like that, more "They were polite but they had a firm point to make". Interesting to read how it looks from an outsider's point of view: women meet up and mind their own business while others shout at them.

nilsmousehammer · 04/05/2023 11:57

That seems the most helpful video to date.

Makes it clear really that the LWS stewards would do better to just stay with the LWS event and let the police handle the umbrella brigade.

Essentially: activists were doing their best to sneak quietly around the back of the police line where the police were thin and not taking much notice.

The stewards saw, backed with them for quite a way, police did nothing. Stewards finally said stop.

Activists pushed and shoved and used banners to drive them back. One steward says 'we've got to get out of here' and she and colleague move away, not realising the third hasn't heard and is left alone in the middle of the mob. As soon as they realise they go back, one getting a hefty shove from an activist which she ignores.

The left alone steward gets pulled about and pushed with the banner and finally appears to turn around and push back, although hard to say how much she was hanging on to the banner to try and keep her feet since she was alone in the middle of a mob pushing her around. One policeman pulls her hand off the banner, the policewoman pulls her from behind, that's how she falls.

nilsmousehammer · 04/05/2023 12:02

*activists sneaking around the police line to get to the LWS group btw. The police were keeping them back. The activists were advancing on the LWS event when the stewards tried to stop them. Since the police were doing sweet fanny adams.

SidewaysOtter · 04/05/2023 12:11

Thank you @nilsmousehammer - I did see the group move but I was standing under the tree at the time so it wasn't clear whether they were moving or the police were herding them. Interesting that they were trying to get round the police line. The picture below is one I took as I left, showing just how many police they had at the end of the line (protestors on the left, women on the right) which was presumably to stop them pulling that stunt again.

The person who wrote this seems to be under the impression that the only people who are against DQST are from the far right.

The ‘Let Women Speak’ (LWS) campaign includes, so I’m informed, leftist Lesbian organisations. However, several faces from the far right, which included those seen protesting against the Drag Queen story-time events, were reportedly amongst the ranks of LWS.

They obviously haven't realised that some left-wing people might also be against DQST. Thinking that the sexualisation of children is wrong isn't really a left-right issue.

And what does 'amongst the ranks of LWS' mean? The event is open to anyone who wants to go.

nilsmousehammer · 04/05/2023 14:10

This is a key marketing tactic of the T lobby. Repeat lies loudly and frequently and most people don't bother to go and check the truth, they just absorb the slogan without questioning.

I mean why WOULD far right people care about men in burlesque drag with dodgy social media histories who want to spend an hour with your children?

And why would anyone seeing possible downsides to this automatically be politically far right as opposed to just - with a basic grip on reality and common sense?

And what IS the far right in the UK anyway? Reece-Mogg's Nanny?

nilsmousehammer · 04/05/2023 14:13

And if NOT being far right is being framed to mean that you're automatically all for the burlesque dragged man with the dodgy social media history spending time with your kid, then.... a reasonable hypothesis would become that their may be a problem with NOT being far right.

SidewaysOtter · 04/05/2023 15:10

And what IS the far right in the UK anyway?

From what I've heard from someone who is very much of the LOJ aspect of things, they genuinely believe that anyone who doesn't agree with them on a variety of subjects (all Tories are evil, all Tory voters are evil, no-one had a reason to vote for Brexit other than being a gammon racist, TWAW, anyone who has a religious belief is stupid) is "far right". And fascist. And a Nazi.
