Is anyone here going?
I booked train tickets a while ago and am looking forward to it but starting to get nervous and wonder how safe it will be?
Obviously there will be lots of tra as Posie is back for the first time since NZ.
I'm worried about escalation from the posts I've seen on Facebook/twitter.

Here's yet more footage. The MRAs definitely trying to slowly encroach on the SFW space and the stewards attempting to hold the line. Presumably that's how that steward ended up in the middle of the mob...

What the heck were the police doing?! Apart from letting them push forward.

SinnerBoy · 01/05/2023 12:47

@Helleofabore

Transcripts missing vital sections of context being posted as a ‘look, Posie Parker is horrific’ moment. That never stands up when the full transcript is posted, yet the same posters double down and even post the same on other threads. It is the same pattern of operation.

I had a post deleted and was warned for tl hing for pointing that out. To be fair, I did address the poster doing it.

SidewaysOtter · 01/05/2023 13:05

I went. It was the first time I've been to a LWS event.

It was brilliant! Such a great atmosphere and the difference was striking between a) a circle of women supporting each other, taking it in turns to speak while everyone else listened respectfully and generally minding their own business and b) a mob of people hiding behind masks and umbrellas, shouting and screaming at the women. How on earth did the protesters think they looked like the reasonable ones?

So many wonderful speakers, many of whom were visibly nervous but spoke up anyway, and even a 12 year old girl whose courage to speak in front of everyone blew me away.

Aside from the issue where the steward appeared to have been thrown aside by the police (I mean, I get that they were probably worried that it was all about to kick off but could not one of them have stopped to check she was OK and take a statement?) the police were pretty good. It was noticeable that they were very much policing the TRAs and keeping them corralled up away from us, while we women were largely left alone. I stopped to chat to a few officers on my way back and they were very nice about it all.

I'll be going to as many of these events as I can from now on.

NancyDrawed · 01/05/2023 13:21

I was there yesterday, too. My first time at a Hyde Park LWS event.

I felt generally safe as there were lots of police present, but it was a bit unnerving watching the TRA crowd gradually get closer and move round from where they had first gathered.

I had youngsters with me and they said they felt intimidated by the approach of the flag waving / drum banging / chanting mob. They have heard me going on about this issue for a few years now, so I am glad they have seen first hand what we are up against.

They said the protesters looked like idiots and there was a massive contrast with the women in the LWS group who were all really nice and friendly.

"They'll do anything to paint us as violent."

We don't have to DO anything, that's all on you.

Is the penny starting to drop - that threats and violence against women and girls meeting and speaking doesn't look good?

'the public just see a bunch of masked blokes aggressively shouting at women'

Funny, that.

DerekFaker · 01/05/2023 14:08

Oh yes, please come and speak, "cis allies"; your incomprehensible, insubstantial waffle NEEDS a wider audience.

Oh thank goodness they're finally getting it!

YES, come and talk. Without the violent nut jobs.

But rather than come and 'educate' which means basically 'shut up and think/experience what I tell you' try listening to what the other women are saying. Education has to go both ways.

If this could work for women and children too then this would all go away.

SidewaysOtter · 01/05/2023 14:11

Interesting Reddit thread. They don’t seem to be able to understand why the numbers of women attending these events is increasing - chaps, if you’re reading this, it’s because more women are emboldened to attend but also want to add their voices. It’s not a Posie-worshipathon, it’s a collective of women saying their piece about issues which affect them.

The idea that we’re there for attention is as hilarious as it is self-absorbed. We’re there to support each other, we’re minding our own business and we’d be just as happy - if not more so - without protestors in attendance.

I can’t see a trans-rights women speaker getting a terribly good reception and you’d have to have balls of iron to stand in the middle of hundreds of GC women and start espousing an opposing viewpoint. Fair play if anyone wants to have a go though, it’ll be entertaining if nowt else.

nilsmousehammer · 01/05/2023 14:16

A woman could stand on that mic and exhort other women to put their needs aside and the equality of their daughters and other women aside to meet the wants of men however, and I can guarantee one thing: no one in the crowd of women who disagree will hit her or threaten her.

Maybe they could ask these people to speak?

Absolutely. I can imagine some booing, disagreement, maybe even some disapproving tutting but no-one would be violent or threaten to be so.

(I should imagine having to walk out of the circle to stone cold silence would almost be worse!)

dapsnotplimsolls · 01/05/2023 14:25

Silence or Very British Tutting would be a great response.

BeReet · 01/05/2023 14:29

If a woman wanted to speak in favour of the trans agenda, she should be allowed to and the waffly garbage greeted with deafening silence - no boo-ing, no heckling, just silence.

DerekFaker · 01/05/2023 14:40

I'm sure it's happened before and was absolutely fine until the "cis ally" tried to run off with the mike?

AutumnCrow · 01/05/2023 14:49

Perhaps "cis allies" might be asked to bring their own mic. And then a pathway could be cleared after their allotted time for them to run off with it.

BreadInCaptivity · 01/05/2023 14:52

I think the problem they would have with allies speaking is not that they would be met with anything stronger than silence and tutting, rather that looking at the interviews with some protesters, they'd struggle to find anyone with anything coherent to say.

The idea that some of them are only now just walking up to the idea they are playing into KJK's hands is hilarious.

Scroll right back to the TV interview with Harrop years ago and she was perfectly open about the fact she put the AHF poster up to provoke men like him complaining/protesting about it to get press coverage.

The thing is they won't stop even if they know what the optics are - because they enjoy it.

You just have to look at the footage to see the malicious glee emitting from many of the TRA's (the men especially) as they shout, push, shove and try to intimidate from behind their cowards masks.

The idea of protesting peacefully and respectfully just isn't anywhere near as much fun.

I swear sometimes I just have the urge to have a pocket of smarties to post into little mouths at strategic moments as I have done so many times to get through situations without running off/shouting out inappropriate things/dropping on the floor and melting down/clocking a sibling. It just all seems so familiar.

nilsmousehammer · 01/05/2023 17:25

<Just realised I have now invited a pile on about putting something so appallingly unhealthy as smarties into anyone's mouths.... I meant organic hummous dipped cucumber sticks and quinoa. Honest.>

UnDruidlyWords · 01/05/2023 17:27

I'll take the Smarties, please! Orange ones if you've got them.

I agree. The video of interviews with the TRA's shows that most of them have absolutely no idea what they are protesting and that the men are recruiting women to accompany them as cover for their violent misogyny. Their aim is to abuse women rather than support the trans community so they will not stop because they are getting away with it.

I saw some footage earlier of all the TRA's leaving en masse yesterday, it's almost like they were clocking off. I could easily believe some of them are paid agitators.

Don't suppose it's got any blue ones in that tube?

Asking for a friend.

Munches on celery....

Yeah you know that last line is an out and out lie! As if I'd have anything healthy in my house. Pfft! (I'm a bit dubious as to your quinoa claims - you just don't seem the type nils)
