Yet again they've bowed to the transactivist bullies.

Writing to their principal now - absolutely sick of this nonsense. Imagine what it must be like dealing with these students.

Bigotry is bigotry. Was then, is now.

Yes you can show the film. Expect push back. That is the right of people to protest.

They couldn't show the film though could they? The 'push back' involved masked thugs bodily stopping women from entering a legal event for which they had tickets and the security staff didn't do their jobs to protect those women. As much as you and footstampers dislike it, gender critical views are "worthy of respect in a democratic society" (in fact a protected characteristic no less) and part of being a democratic society is the existence of plurality of views.

And no, it's not just about 'bathrooms'. It's about rape crisis services, domestic violence shelters, prisons, crime statistics etc etc etc.

But you know that. You just don't care.

AmuseBish · 27/04/2023 21:35

"It's not about bathrooms" says the first person to bring the word "bathrooms" into the thread.

Mishy - you're consistently unable to even say what you mean when you say "woman", presumably because you know whatever you would say is either inadequate or misogynistic, so you must recognise that it's hypocritical to tell others they can't explore what they mean by "woman" either.

The dishonesty gets tiring after a while.

Joanna Cherry raising it in the HoC. She is such a class act.

This is so depressing. You'd think the uni wouldn't want the embarrassment of a second cancellation. I know the film has been cancelled in other places, but have there been any other universities who've got as far as advertising the showing, audience turning up and not being able to get in? I can't recall any.

Does anyone have a share token or archive version of the Herald article? I can't afford another sub.

It's actually about penises in women's bathrooms.
I don't think there were penises in the water fountains?

I think it was raised in the Scottish Assembly too. Humza said (I'm paraphrasing), 'tut, but I'm not saying anything to the university though, love ya transpeople'

i worked at Edinburgh for years and the administration are totally in thrall to a group of loud bullying students and staff pushing this ideology. The Staff Pride network is totally captured and has a disproportionate amount of influence and insert themselves into absolutely everything. The Principal is a weak man who has been told/complained to by female staff time and time again and chooses to ignore/fob them off with insipid ineffectual responses. Worth noting he is a doctor of medicine and I’m sure well aware of what a woman is but just too fearful to stand up for them.

St Andrew’s is a much better bet for those looking at universities in Scotland, or Glasgow - both have their contingent of misogynist bullies in the staff and student body but haven’t allowed them to run riot and lost control in the way Edinburgh has.

I can't remember her second name - Ellie something? She is very brave and has spoken about her ordeal and the aftermath. Essentially, her rapist as allowed to continue his studies at Edinburgh Uni - after it was on record as him admitting the sexual assault - as he hadn't been sentenced yet. I couldn't believe they'd put female students at risk from this man! But then again, it's edinburgh uni...

EdinburghName · 28/04/2023 06:24

The Office for Students is only for English universities - education is devolved. There's no real equivalent I'm afraid.

Ellie Wilson. She actually managed to get an audio recording of her rapist admitting that he raped her and he still tried to appeal to the UK Supreme Court - thankfully refused yesterday.

And he commited the rape at Glasgow University and was allowed to transfer to the University of Edinburgh without any sort of safeguarding being put in place to safeguard female students.

Ah, thank you! Yes, it's unbelievable. The gall of that man and that uni protecting him! 😡

Thanks! That line from the university spokesperson about being disappointed. Once is a disappointment, twice means they know they're getting something wrong. Instead of being disappointed they should do something about it.

CoozudBoyuPuak · 28/04/2023 22:09

But on the plus side they are among the first 5 universities who have a branch of the LGB Student Network https://lgballiance.org.uk/student-network/ which upholds the rights of people to define their sexuality in terms of which sex the are attracted to. That's got to be a big plus.

PopGoesTheProsecco · 28/04/2023 22:13

Yes I saw that and ironically laughed.

And pasting the link into the archive.today website will either bring up an already archived copy or create a new one.

On the upside, as a result of seeing a newslink about this protest, I googled the docu and watched it today.

The protestors are creating a news story and publicising this very insightful piece.

I watched it too because I saw it mentioned here on Mumsnet. I used to be one of the ‘be kind’ brigade. Watching the film made me realise our sex based rights are under threat. And I’ve realised it more so now that TRAs are trying to prevent people from watching it.
But hey they’re the most marginalised people in society 🤦‍♀️
