Women need to keep speaking out. And to think Biden is planning to overturn the ruling stopping this happening. The left is LOST.

I have my own opinions on sex and sport, but I think that is just a really horrible accident that could have happened to anybody.

oldwomanwhoruns · 20/04/2023 10:32

'Happened to anybody'????
No woman could punch a ball with that force.

Do you? You don’t at all think that it was exacerbated by his strength? You don’t think this will happen more and more? You didn’t read about that sportswoman who had her skull fractured. Same issue. Right-i-o

I read a tweet from someone who said that when they played volleyball in mixed teams the men weren’t allowed to smash the ball overhead unless they were behind some line. So there must be something in this right?

That's alright then, nothing to see here.

Tarantullah · 20/04/2023 10:37

The vast vast vast majority of people know that its dangerous and also unfair to have biological men playing in women's sports. There are a small but very vocal and powerful group who will ignore reality, shut down discussion as they know there's no actual justification and accuse those speaking the truth of all sorts. I'm so glad women (and some men) are pushing back and speaking out against this ridiculousness.

It wouldn't have happened though if a man wasn't playing against a woman.

Of course injuries are a risk in any sport but injuries and concussions are becoming increasingly common and more severe in rugby as players are bigger and heavier than they used to be, and that's players of the same sex. So women are more likely to be injured and to suffer more serious injuries if they're playing against much stronger opponents i.e men.

AmuseBish · 20/04/2023 10:51

The strength of the person spiking that ball is absolutely key to the injury. Of course the person being male in this situation would have had a far higher risk of causing serious injury than a female person.

Presumably this risk was assessed when they allowed mixed-sex volleyball and deemed acceptable by the organisers.
If they neglected to assess the risk then they are at fault.

NecessaryScene · 20/04/2023 10:57

Of course the person being male in this situation would have had afar higher riskof causing serious injury than a female person.

Yes, and that's compounded. Anyone facing that male person would be at higher risk than someone facing a female person.

But a woman facing that serve is at higher risk than a man would be facing that same serve. Women are far more physically vulnerable and less able to shrug off serious impacts.

Expecting women to face male opponents, and hence be at a higher risk of injury than men are, is the very opposite of the "equity" people often claim to believe in. Only one sex is being expected to face a stronger sex.

LowFlyingDucks · 20/04/2023 11:25

Men have stronger neck muscles and thicker skulls, particularly the facial bones.

This helps to protect men from concussions.

Men have greater upper body strength and bigger, heavier, stronger bodies generally, so they can, for example, throw something, with far greater force than a woman can. Think of the different speeds between male and female champions serving in tennis.

If you put together female vulnerability to concussions and other injuries, with the greater force that males can exert.

You have lethal danger for women.

LowFlyingDucks · 20/04/2023 11:27

I imagine than men who get their facial bones radical shaved down, would be closer to female vulnerability when it comes to facial injuries.

LowFlyingDucks · 20/04/2023 11:27

Radically

Their bones will be thinner but will still have a high density.

Right and the rest of their skull will be thicker too.

In the last few years I’ve discovered that most people have no idea just how much stronger men are compared to women.

Minimalme · 20/04/2023 12:01

Honestly, this is like someone identifying as disabled and competing in that category.

It is a complete fucking nonsense. I am so done with women getting pushed out of female spaces by men.

I have told my three sons they can dress as women, wear make up and heels, whatever they want, but they are boys and when they go through puberty, they will be men. And that is a non-negotiable truth.

I wish more parents would take responsibility and stop indulging this gender crap.

LowFlyingDucks · 20/04/2023 12:02

Having said that, even if men shaving their facial bones was equivalent to females, it would be something that individual should be warned about before they have the surgery, so they can work out if, on balance, it’s worth it for them.

Just like women taking testosterone need to be aware that this excludes them from competitive sport because it is doping.

They need to weigh up the pros and cons of the decisions they make and decide if it’s worth it.

Sportswomen don’t exist to mop up the poor decisions of other people.

People will still push the ‘Be Kind’ nonsense in response to female prisoners who are incarcerated with & sexually assaulted by men, so a women sustaining a brain injury caused by a male opponent playing in women’s sport is obviously no problem to them either 🙄

People like this must simply think of women as not being human. What matters is the real people, the men.

Yep, my 11 year old boy was stronger than me not even having gone through puberty. He still has all his growing to do.

turbonerd · 20/04/2023 14:39

This gives me the creeps. Again.

My DH played volleyball to quite a high level, he was known for his smashes.
My sil also played volleyball to a high level.
They both know full well had my DH smashed the ball in sil’s face her neck may well have snapped.

This is assault, poor girl!
