And that's not even the best part, the Chair of the Women and Equalities Committee thinks it's a depressing state of affairs to regard biological males as dangerous! It's almost as if the MoJ crime figures are really hard to access. Safeguarding is obviously discriminatory and oppressive.

Notice how she talk about trans rights and women's rights and then refers to trans rights campaigners and anti trans campaigners. She talks about the toxicity of the debate and how some protests have become violent but conveniently doesn't mention who perpetrates the violence.

She appears to think the trans community is the most marginalised and abused but seems ignorant of the abuse and violence women face.

She proves, yet again, that stupidity is not a barrier to a career in politics.

This whole thing is just going to end up extending to all men isn’t it? The whole “we shouldn’t judge a group on a few bad apples” applies to men as a whole so the idea it’ll just stop at those men who say they are women is a nonsense. Men’s rights activism in drag.

FigRollsAlly · 18/04/2023 15:40

The replies to that tweet are overwhelmingly critical of her. How she can still talk such rubbish is a complete mystery to me. Yes, it’s depressing that we have to treat men as dangerous but that’s reality, some of them are. She knows very well how some behave as she has talked about being groped herself.

FigRollsAlly · 18/04/2023 15:42

Several replies also pointed out the incongruity of someone with her views chairing the Women and Equalities committee. She really is a complete liability.

FOJN · 18/04/2023 15:49

From her wiki page.....

In May 2021, alongside celebrities and other public figures, Nokes was a signatory to an open letter from Stylist magazine which called on the government to address what it described as an "epidemic of male violence" by funding an "ongoing, high-profile, expert-informed awareness campaign on men’s violence against women and girls".

I rent a space to the wi, several men attend with their wives or mothers (in the latter case their mothers need a carer) we have male members of the mothers Union too - nobody cares at all. Meanwhile I go to "boys night out" as I like beer not knitting Grin

DorritLittle · 18/04/2023 15:50

She is my MP. I wrote to her once about women’s rights and felt pretty dismissed by her reply.

I go to girls nights out. I don't know anyone who knits.

bigbabycooker · 18/04/2023 15:56

Does she have a personal vested interest, or is she just a bit silly?

And I’m pretty partial to beer - didn't realise it was a ‘boy’ thing.

🤦‍♀️

Sounds like your social circle is rather sexist

Toseland · 18/04/2023 17:39

How on earth can she spout such nonsense and seemingly have no understanding of the issues despite her position and responsibilities?! There's something odd going on with her - I don't think she's up to the job.

MargotBamborough · 18/04/2023 17:40

Of course she does, she's a complete idiot.

Fluffycloudsblusky · 18/04/2023 17:47

Women should just set up their own groups. Call it Uk Women group or Institute of Women. Something like that.

Yup me too.

Wondering who on earth I'll vote for in the next general election. The Tories with CN as the actual MP, or the Lib Dems. No one else has a chance.

The WI has a problem with falling membership numbers and closing branches, with the number of new branches not making up for the losses.

As I recall, the HQ, when asked about members who didn't want transwomen in their branch, said those members could leave.

So that's going to help. Not.

Skyellaskerry · 18/04/2023 18:10

Just heard her on the radio oh my God.

I never hear of the WI other than in my village so I thought I'd look it up. Apparently, within 6 miles of my house there are 7 branches. I'm amazed. I wonder what they all do.

She's a leftover from the Maria Miller/Theresa May 'Be Kind' school of Conservatism - now thankfully on the wane, as the Tories have realised self-ID is an issue they can use against Labour.

We need to keep vigilant, though. With a few honourable exceptions, the Tories have no true commitment to women's rights, and would happily turn against GC women, if they thought it was to their advantage to do so. Sunak was making Starmer-esque fence-sitting noises only a year ago. He did not become a convert to biological reality until it helped him to beat Penny Mordaunt in the first Tory leadership race last summer.

I like beer….one of my friends knits but she doesn’t do it on nights out, that would be weird

though I suppose no weirder than thinking you can only have a beer on a lads night out

May I ask how you know that no one cares? Have you given members an opportunity to express their views anonymously? And have you surveyed former/potential members?

And I like beer and knitting. I've even been known to knit at the pub. All that says about me is that I have a personality and interests. It doesn't say anything about my sex or my sense of identity. Or whether I should be eligible to join the WI. (I should be, given that I'm female. I won't, given that they turned to misogyny.)

MagicSpring · 18/04/2023 18:31

I like beer and knitting, though too much of one has dire effects on the other.

RPMcMurphy · 18/04/2023 18:41

I have found my tribe #Beer&Knitting

The WI need to get a grip. I see Conservatives for Women have taken Lord Hague to task over his remarks and offered to meet with him. They have also taken on Nokes but she is a lost cause I’m afraid.

And men will still want to be in on it because it all goes towards pandering to their fantasy world.

So the men are not attending as male members (snigger) (sorry) - they are attending as carers. I don't think it's quite the same thing. I was an honorary member of the Mothers Union as a 16 year old because I helped my mum attend and would help out with teas (because I got free cake) and clearing up when there. I didn't believe I was a mother, nor use it to validate my identity (except as best daughter ever 😉 )
