And that's not even the best part, the Chair of the Women and Equalities Committee thinks it's a depressing state of affairs to regard biological males as dangerous! It's almost as if the MoJ crime figures are really hard to access. Safeguarding is obviously discriminatory and oppressive.

Notice how she talk about trans rights and women's rights and then refers to trans rights campaigners and anti trans campaigners. She talks about the toxicity of the debate and how some protests have become violent but conveniently doesn't mention who perpetrates the violence.

She appears to think the trans community is the most marginalised and abused but seems ignorant of the abuse and violence women face.

She proves, yet again, that stupidity is not a barrier to a career in politics.

I like beer and knitting, though too much of one has dire effects on the other.

When you knit too much you can't hold your pint?

Does she have a personal vested interest, or is she just a bit silly?

Caroline Nokes is one of the chief architects of the Tory Trans Inclusion policy. Her TWAW beliefs go way back.

Rightsraptor · 18/04/2023 21:53

I just love how Mumsnetters turn silly, goady comments on their heads and make a huge joke out of them.

I love ❤️ the knitted beer mug, too.

For those of us who are past the first flush of youth, does anyone remember the model Jean Shrimpton? I'm sure I read about her having to go to nightclubs to network, as we'd say now but didn't then. She hated it and used to sit in a corner with her knitting.

TeenDivided · 19/04/2023 06:33

There is of course another knitting hero in Tom Daley .... Hmm

I have found my tribe #Beer&Knitting

The WI need to get a grip. I see Conservatives for Women have taken Lord Hague to task over his remarks and offered to meet with him. They have also taken on Nokes but she is a lost cause I’m afraid.

Well that's one reason I can't vote Tory.

Well, doh
if you spend all the time knitting, your hand will cramp and you'll drop your beer.

cut back on the knitting.

I'm not a WI member so please correct me if I'm wrong. But do WI members get undressed at their meetings? Are they providing rape counselling or similar services? What's the issue with them admitting trans women?

Either the WI wants to be a single sex organisation, in which case admitting any male born person makes it no longer single sex, Or it is happy to be mixed sex, in which case it should admit any male born person not just TW.

WI may well discuss e.g. menopause or whatever that they may not wish to discuss in front of people with different biology.

But you know this really, I'm sure.

Sorry to disappoint but there is no nudity at WI meetings.

Sometimes some women enjoy the company of other women, without males present.

This may just be for female companionship, or it may be because they feel more able to discuss intimate issues, or it may be for religious reasons.

I like beer….one of my friends knits but she doesn’t do it on nights out, that would be weird

though I suppose no weirder than thinking you can only have a beer on a lads night out

I know. It's the sexism that gets me. Imagining that men cant knit and women cant drink beer.

Datun · 19/04/2023 11:30

Caroline Nokes has always been pro men trampling on women's boundaries.

I wrote to her at least eight years ago, and she was walking around with her eyes shut then.

There's no excuse now, though.

<serious face>
The Freedom of Association is a fundamental human right. The freedom to choose who you mix with, and who you don't. It is a freedom that can be abused obviously. And all fundamental human rights are by the defining fact of society qualified to a certain extent.

However if Jesus and Jane want to associate without Judas, that is their right. Questioning that right is in and of itself an attack on it. So should only be indulged in the certain extents mentioned aforethread.

With the ECHR reportedly on the chopping block, people really should bone up on the concept of fundamental rights before they are gone.
</serious face>

There is a school of thought that some people would not become a member of any club that would accept them.

Roundaboutabee · 19/04/2023 11:42

She’s my MP too. Occasionally shows flashes of non-Tory-groupthink before reminding you of her true blueness. But very much of #bekind who cares about rights anyway

she is excellent at replying to emails though, so might try again. For what it’s worth (vanishingly little).

TeenDivided · 19/04/2023 11:44

Perhaps all of us on here who have CN as out MP (at least 3!) should all email in asking her some questions.

littlbrowndog · 19/04/2023 11:45

Did we not have nokes on Mumsnet for a chat ?

going to search

Oh yes here she was.

a mums net chat. Tried to copy. But I seem to have failed 🙈

Why stop at TW. Why not just admit all men. Why not just change the name to “The People’s Institute. Full inclusivity or you’re a hateful bigot.

bellinisurge · 19/04/2023 11:58

Couldn't spot it. Assume already asked .

But doesn't she have a relative who's trans.

Basically any politician or public figure who is unexpectedly vocal about TWAW has a trans relative.

Meanwhile I go to "boys night out" as I like beer not knitting.

I go to girls nights out. I don't know anyone who knits.

My knitting group meets in the pub. It’s definitely not advertised as women-only, that’s just who turns up.

Several of us are members of different branches of the WI. AFAIK none of them has men or transwomen as members. I’m not sure what the response would be if they applied to join. Be Kind and feel uncomfortable, probably.

In the interests of harmony the knitting group avoids discussion of contentious subjects.
