This is the case where Mermaids challenged the Charity Commission's decision to give charitable status to the LGBA.

Don't have any more detail at the moment, but thought you'd all be interested. It's been a four month wait already.

Twitter is entertaining this evening

OMG, sending healing vibes and arnica to JK!

Bizarre Twitter exchanges about Mermaids in which Tatchell repeats OVER AND OVER IN ALL CAPS THE SAME THING to those with the temerity to point out facts in the public domain:

DOESN'T NICOLA ALSO USE ALL CAPS?

Susie Green:

Today, as I heard the news about Mermaids case against the LGBA charity status, my thoughts go to the amazing team at @Mermaids_gender who stood up for the rights of the trans community to live life with dignity and respect and free from the kind of harassment dished out by the LGBA.

The case failed on standing, which we knew was a difficult issue as the law was so complex. This does not, however, constitute a win for the LGBA. The judges were split as to whether the LGBA deserved charity status
based upon the content that they produced and the lack of any actual charitable activities.

They have consistently shown themselves to be a trans hate group, not a force for good for the LGB community. For all those who are negatively impacted by today's judgment please know that I stand by the trans community today and every day.

I will continue to fight back against the blatant transphobia and the governments attempts to roll back rights. And as always, I know that this statement will help me add to my already extensive block list!

Isn't this libellous?

I'd be up for helping the LGBA to take this libellous crap about 'transphobia' to court. Advocating for same-sex attracted people is not 'transphobic'.

Of course the video has been mentioned:

The twisting, the turning... it's exhausting.

Jolyon's life is hard but he got to choose it. The road that brought him to another deeply technical loss, he did not.

He's as fake news as the Brexiters and populists he rails against.

Proof positive humans excel at hypocrisy.

PronounssheRa · 06/07/2023 20:16

They have a script don't they

Trans hate group ✅️
Not a win ✅️
Lack of charitable activities ✅️ (conveniently forgetting how much time and £ had to go toward fighting this nonsense)
Transphobia ✅️

guinnessguzzler · 06/07/2023 20:28

I don't think people realise just how much would be required to remove a charity from the register. If you're a bit light on activity for a short ish period, or a bit mouthy, that really isn't going to get you removed, at least not initially. Whether or not they should have been added in the first place is, I think, what the actual question was, which is slightly different anyway and again, not really complex but certainly not totally clear cut; there will be charities who look fine on paper and it might be difficult to refuse but once they get going it becomes clear in the way they go about things that they are not operating as they should. Mermaids would be a good example of that 😂

NecessaryScene · 06/07/2023 20:36

Might I remind her of the Charity Commission statement, and remind her that they are currently investigating Mermaids, and maybe she might not want to add to the pile of offences?

We understand both charities hold opposing views, but when engaging in public debate and campaigning, they should do so with respect and tolerance. Demonising and undermining those who think differently is not acceptable behaviour from any charity on our register.

Froodwithatowel · 06/07/2023 20:39

If arguing for the right to be openly homosexual and to point out that many kids transitioning would be homosexual AND grow out of dysphoria if left alone, (and grow up with intact bodies, fertility and a normal sex life) is being called 'trans hate' by supposedly rational adults

you really have to start wondering wtf they are on.

Hang on. Didn't Mermaids boot her out because she ended up being too much of a liability even for them?

Vexatious litigants have a strange habit of going after their perceived opponents via the legal system, but by the same token removing their means to defend themselves from the very actions they've brought about.

Hence a situation with one vexatious litigant pursuing a lone woman and then getting her crowd funding page shut down. Now, Green points to the complaint about a lack of content so far created by LGBA, when for practically the duration of their existence they've been fighting off the legal ministrations of none other than Mermaids themselves.

It's a peculiar kind of cognitive dissonance TRAs employ. Sort of akin to the very Trumpian skewed 'reality' that when you've spectacularly lost something, you've 'really' won (even when you're the only one who thinks so).

Exhausting.

She's not a charity worker anymore, though. Now just selling transitions online.

FigRollsAlly · 06/07/2023 20:55

Well, as the judges declined to give their reasoning behind their split opinion SG has totally misrepresented things when she says the judges were “split as to whether the LGBA deserved charitable status based on the content they produced and the lack of any actual charitable activities”.

TBF she’s no longer tweeting as CEO of Mermaids.

Now, why is that again…?

Of course Mermaids didn't have standing, they don't have legs. Which makes shooting themselves in the foot quite an achievement 🤔

😂

Yes. Interesting she's used precisely this form of misinterpretation when she knows fine well why their energies have been expended elsewhere.

It's deliberate. I'm sure they know what they're doing - along with the blatant misuse of the legal system we're currently seeing - that they know others see it too, and are being as incendiary and provocative as they possibly can.

Very childish.
