Judgement in Mermaids v Charity Commission tribunal expected in days

This is the case where Mermaids challenged the Charity Commission's decision to give charitable status to the LGBA.

Don't have any more detail at the moment, but thought you'd all be interested. It's been a four month wait already.

Is it definitely coming out at 10am? Or could it be delayed?

I'm feeling more nervous about this one than I did about any of the others.

It seems unthinkable that the courts could rule that gay people cannot advocate for their own rights but it was also unthinkable that male rapists could be housed in women's prisons

I know legal wheels turn very slowly, but man alive - that was glacial.

The fact that the Court didn't instantly tell Mermaids to fuck right off, and 'Who the hell do you think you are?!' means that we can't take anything for granted.

It will be shit if they lose. But if it does it will go to appeal, and there will be more sunlight, and I honestly believe this whole thing is turning round albeit at the pace of a fucking battleship.

I agree - and I'm really hoping that the judgement will be a carefully, legally worded interpretation of this.

I felt like this at the time. That it should be thrown out without a second glance, but I'm almost glad it went further because of the sunlight it shed.

I think it's already with Mermaids and LGBA so it will just be the embargo on releasing it to the public that expires at 10am. So I would expect it to be prompt.
