Judgement in Mermaids v Charity Commission tribunal expected in days

This is the case where Mermaids challenged the Charity Commission's decision to give charitable status to the LGBA.

Don't have any more detail at the moment, but thought you'd all be interested. It's been a four month wait already.

Having read Dennis K’s letter to the Good Law Project linked upthread, it seems inconceivable to me that Mermaids can win this.

I love good news before bedtime, not fairy stories like a sane world where a corrupted entity like Mermaids could have any sway over anything, least of all the LGBA.

I guess Dennis is just saying the struggle with GI is zero sum game, and existential. I guess that can be framed as a battle, as a war.

What are the Mermaids tweets like? Are they silent? That’d be a good sign… wouldn’t it? It’s hard to be silently triumphant, in my experience.

I know it could technically go either way, but I just can't imagine how they could justify Mermaids bonkers behaviour. Surely that would have bad repercussions across the charity sector....

But it troubles me that so many things that I thought were impossible five years ago are happening now - men competing in women’s sports, the phrase ‘her penis’ being used in news reports, banks closing / refusing accounts of GC people, the total ideological capture of reputable organisations….. I mean the Bank of England FFS.

I despair sometimes.

It would be illogical and immoral if Mermaids win

but there was a court ruling that believing that there are 2 sexes and sex is immutable and important in some situations is not worthy of respect in a democratic society

so, yanno, shit happens

if it does happen here I think enough people will be baffled and outraged that funding an appeal won’t be difficult
