My Mum co-founded the first Rape Crisis Centre in Northern Ireland. I told her about the below(*), she was shaking with rage and felt physically ill. I got a quote from her for @RapeCrisis_NI,

‘You are not feminists, what you’re doing goes against the ethos of any actual rape crisis in the world, which is about women being there for women and children. There will be true rape crisis counsellors at the #LetWomenSpeak event who have worked in this country for over 30 years supporting survivors of rape and sexual abuse whilst you handmaidens betray women.’

.

If you read the twitter thread you will see this in one of the responses

The original one that closed due to funding cuts was for women only. The new one that opened years later in 2020 seems to have changed the criteria to all. The previous one lost funding for being too specialist…. Wonder if this was a theme?
.

The BBC have written a news story about the LWS Belfast event and planned protests and that The Women's Rights Network was able to show the film Adult Human Female in Belfast.

BBC report here with maybe a bit of a slant?! ie they aren't counter protests as LWS events are protest but freedom of speech for women events https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-65187388

KJK was physically assaulted, as were other women present. Are you forgetting that little fact when gloating over how she left? Fleeing violence is an act of self-protection, not cowardice.

Prof Whittle on Twitter:

"Belfast, Sunday ( tomorrow) Please turn out & give a New Zealand welcome toKellie Jay K M (Posie Parker) 1-5pm, Writers Square & The MAC, & The Big Fish on the LaganBank. Everyone welcome All support appreciated. Please retweet"

Good God. Professor of Equalities Law at Manchester Metropolitan University - is this person inciting violence against women attending the LWS event in Belfast?

Another university to cross off the list for my DDs.

LET WOMEN SPEAK

MerlinsLostMarbles · 15/04/2023 20:46

Fluffymule · 15/04/2023 20:33

If you listened when women speak you would know that KJK is not travelling or hosting a woman's speaking event in Ireland 'soon'.

She will be in Belfast, in the UK tomorrow.

Why you think she should use the tragic death of a prostituted woman murdered in a different country under a different legal framework as a talking point eludes me.

Show some respect. The death of a trafficked human is not something anybody stomachs as acceptable fodder for a piss poor internet gotcha attempt.

Yes N. Ireland I meant.

I understand both ROI and N.Ireland both have the Nordic Model for prostitution? I didn't see any mention that she had been trafficked. The point however is that male violence against women is something many of us would consider talking points in a "let women speak" event?

Are you seriously trying to spin the protestors as ‘not supporting trans rights’? That would make them trans rights activists in every book available.

It seems dishonest to attempt to frame them any other way.

FrancescaContini · 15/04/2023 20:49

“Give a New Zealand welcome” WTAF is wrong with this prof?

Helleofabore · 15/04/2023 20:52

MerlinsLostMarbles · 15/04/2023 18:47

I (and I'm sure, many others) judge her by what she says, not what she calls her rallies.

So, you have nothing!

You have resorted to your usual of unsupported accusations and claims.

How dishonest can you get?

You think people cannot see your patterns? Either front up the evidence, else stop being dishonest. Just for once.

Helleofabore · 15/04/2023 20:59

MerlinsLostMarbles · 15/04/2023 20:24

So if KJK is talking about "women's rights" in Ireland soon (tomorrow I think), will she be mentioning the recent murder of a sexworker in Limerick?

https://sexworkersallianceireland.org/2023/04/we-told-you-this-would-happen-says-sex-workers-alliance-ireland-about-the-murder-of-a-sex-worker-in-limerick/

I don’t know. Have you lined up a woman to speak about it ?

I have heard many diverse topics discussed at these events. There was a sex worker discussing models at one recently.

This is not the gotcha you think.

It merely shows your own prejudice and lack of any depth of knowledge about what is actually discussed.

JanesLittleGirl · 15/04/2023 21:03

Please could someone help Merlin find his marbles? I'm not sure that they are safe out on their own without a responsible adult.

No, your point, indeed direct quote was - "will she be mentioning the recent murder of a sexworker in Limerick?"

So, whilst again noting your distasteful use of a real life murder victim as a handy 'prop' to try and advance a weak argument, you still seem to think KJK should speak about 'womans issues' that you and fellow MRAs/TRAs suggest. And in this case a very specific example that happened weeks ago, in a different country.

How many times do you have to be told that KJK provides the event, a platform, a microphone for other women to speak? The subjects aren't prescribed. Speakers can choose any subject they feel is of importance to them, as women.

Women are speaking. About things that are important to them. Try listening.

JanesLittleGirl · 15/04/2023 21:14

@MerlinsLostMarbles Still waiting for your evidence of KJK'S anti-trans position.

Just saying.....

MerlinsLostMarbles · 15/04/2023 12:48

Perhaps Rape Crisis centres should be left alone so they can help victims of rape, instead of harassing them and wasting their time because they support LGBT people?

Who is harrassing them?

haXXor · 15/04/2023 21:43

DerekFaker · 15/04/2023 21:26

Who is harrassing them?

I think someone is projecting with that accusation of harassment.

Please turn out & give a New Zealand welcome toKellie Jay K M

Professor of Equalities Law at Manchester Metropolitan University - is this person inciting violence against women attending the LWS event in Belfast?

Do the people who say things like this just dont care, or really do believe that it is okay to encourage violence against women.

But lets hope the PSNI do a good job of keeping the TRAs at bay.

Because, despite what RC NI and other women's groups are doing (siding with men who want women to be quiet) there are women who want to speak.

2023 and we have ask police to help us let women speak even though in theory we have freedom of speech

This is appalling but not surprising.

Rape Crisis is completely captured. The CEO of Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre is run by a male who identifies as a woman.

Brighton Rape Crisis Centre even put out a statement in 2018 condemning a WPUK event and calling it transphobic.

So if KJK is talking about "women's rights" in Ireland soon (tomorrow I think), will she be mentioning the recent murder of a sexworker in Limerick?

KJK simply gives the opportunity for women to speak about women's rights.

So a woman may have prepared a talk. It's not KJK's event to speak at.

She gives platforms to women because they're de platformed elsewhere.

WarriorN · 16/04/2023 08:14

Has anyone at RC England said anything?

WarriorN · 16/04/2023 08:29

Aja has a tweet list of various orgs who claim to support women who will be actually centring men at the event:

twitter.com/aja02537920/status/1646951921184391168?s=46&t=A2fpFNgDRyXF2d6ye97wEA

turbonerd · 16/04/2023 09:12

I clicked on Aja’s thread. I did know what it would list, but fucking hell that list made me sad.
All those women’s orgs proudly coming together to SILENCE women.

Her little video is also just horrendous. I had forgotten that the nutters actually yell witch at the women!

Grammarnut · 16/04/2023 10:58

Yes, they should be. That means keeping biological men out of them. Glad we agree on something.

Grammarnut · 16/04/2023 12:09

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 15/04/2023 13:55

that BBC article is a mess

it conflates the Adult Human Female film with Standing for women.

Although I'm pleased to see this reported regarding the Let Women Speak event

The original location was changed after organisers said they were threatened.

how many threats have feminists issued that led to events having to be changed?

how many events have trans rights activists issued that led to the same?

at this point you don't even need to look at what people believe, just how they behave

Yes, by their deeds shall you know them, not by what they profess.

Vebrithien · 16/04/2023 12:59

"Evil begins when you begin to treat people as things."

(Granny Weatherwax, I Shall Wear Midnight).

So much of this situation could be resolved if the TRA and MRA actually treated us as people, with rights, hopes and dreams of our own.

FOJN · 16/04/2023 13:21

Looks like a good turn out in Belfast and the Police seem to be keeping the woman haters at bay.

That Big Fish is meant to represent the Bradán Feasa or Salmon of Knowledge. He was the repository of all the wisdom of the world according to legend.

This excellent fish 🐠 will doubtless project an invisible force field to deter those of evil intent. Knowledge is anathema to them.
