Dear Mumsnet crew,

We want to let you know about a public event that are having on 28th April at 6pm at the University of Bristol. We are absolutely over the moon to have a panel full of incredible women for what will be a phenomenal event. We are delighted to host: Akua Reindorf from Cloisters, Amara Ahmad from Doyle Clayton, Alice de Coverley from 3PB Chambers and Liz McGlone from didlaw.

‘Feminists Lawyers Talk Back!’ invites both our University of Bristol community and members of the public, to listen and engage with solicitors and barristers as all speakers address the legal advances women have achieved so far, the challenges and obstacles women still face in legislation and their personal experiences advocating and litigating for women different sectors of society.

Asking these challenging questions in a public environment is instrumental to the democratic process. Our phenomenal speakers will discuss their personal perspectives on the rights women and girls currently have in different sectors, including the education sector, the workplace, the public sector and legislation. They will also address highlights and challenges they faced, insight and lessons they have learned along the way and advice for women wishing to pursue a career as solicitors and barristers.

The link with more information about the event can be found here. You can learn more about our Feminist Society here. If you know sympathetic people in the Bristol and surrounding areas, please let them know and share the event page with friends and people in your circle.

This is a very special event for us and our way of saying thank you to everyone who supported us through our recent legal ordeals these past few years. I really hope we can see some of you there!

Raquel

Excellent. I just hope that the university ensures that there is sufficient security on hand to allow the event to go ahead without disruption.

Hi, I can't get to Bristol then sadly. Will there be a way to participate virtually, please? Thank you 😊

(And PS, I think you are a wonderful, brave and inspiring woman and it gives me hope for women everywhere to see you in action!)

I've just seen on another thread that the University did not let the public in. That's appalling. What's the story?

IwantToRetire · 29/04/2023 18:33

The story is in the news article linked in the new thread https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4795681-bristol-university-bans-public-from-feminist-event-with-stonewall-critical-lawyer

Thought important to have a thread with a title that clearly spells out what happened.
