I believe that this is one of Glinner’s few sources of income. I don’t think he gets any money from Ted on C4.

DS1 (15) loves Father Ted. Do you think he’d like the IT crowd? (Never seen it myself and not massive fan of Ted but thought he’d like it).

DevilinaCardigan · 11/04/2023 16:11

IT crowd is brilliant @tourdefrance so if he likes father ted, he’ll probably like it. I don’t know if it’s still on Netflix, but Count Arthur Strong is also written (partly) by graham. I don’t think it’s as funny as IT crowd or father ted, but still worth a watch.

What does "memory-holed" mean?
I adore Count Arthur Strong in all formats and the TV show was brilliant

Oh I must watch gay musical again before it leaves!

My favourite episode.

So much of the world these days can be seen through Orwell's lens.

Oh the 'Gay' episode is just amazing. Every time I see it,in reminded of the time that I was talked into going to see "Rent" with some work colleagues ( because someone from Corrie was in it,but I didn't know as I don't watch soaps). The whole thing seemed completely incomprehensible to me,and I don't think that my colleagues got it either.
Glinner is a comedy genius and one of our favourite things to watch as a family.

notprincehamlet · 11/04/2023 19:17

A fire? At a Sea Parks??

Davros · 11/04/2023 21:38

Ah, I wasn't sure if a Memory Hole meant that something that's been disappeared can still be found with a bit of digging. Instead it seems it's just to remove something and pretend it never happened

OldGardinia · 12/04/2023 08:49

"And to think when we met, you thought I wouldn't like you because you were from Iran."

"Other companies have a glass ceiling. But I like to think at Reynholm Industries we have a glass floor. And all the men are just looking up."

"This Jen, is the Internet".

"Did you see that ludicrous display?"

Anybody who has seen the show is now laughing. Such fine writing. It's up there with Drop the Dead Donkey and Frasier for me. Bought the DVDs. So is the implication that The IT Crowd is being dropped by Netflix because of Glinner's GC statements?

Correct. To Memory Hole something is a reference to the media simply burying a story and not referring to it anymore. It's done when something is inconvenient and can't easily be shot down.

TWETMIRF · 12/04/2023 19:11

I started watching from the beginning and have just started the work outing. Jealous much?

CatsAddictedToDreamies · 12/04/2023 19:14

13 year old DS has just discovered them and keeps quoting it at me.

It's lost on me but I am supportive because it's Glinner.

ZombieKettle · 12/04/2023 19:27

Love the IT Crowd! Glinner is a genius. Love the Countdown episode ("I came here to drink milk and kick ass. And I've just finished my milk"), The Haunting of Bill Crouse (wonderful sleazy performance by Adam Buxton) and the episode where Jen takes up smoking and ends up like a Russian peasant 😂

"TAXI!!"

On a serious note, Father Ted and IT Crowd got me through some bouts of depression, which is why I'm happy to pay a subscription for Glinner's substack as a thank you for all he does. Please do consider doing the same.

Pudmyboy · 12/04/2023 21:18

Anyone know of a way of buying the IT Crowd and Father Ted so that Glinner gets the money?

IcakethereforeIam · 12/04/2023 21:25

He should write a book, I'd buy it even if it was just a shopping list compilation. He'd find a publisher somewhere.

Pemba · 16/04/2023 03:40

Been binging on this on Netflix and I see now the message about leaving 25th April has disappeared, so I assume it's now staying, good. Can anyone else check to confirm?

Fiftyisthenewsixty · 16/04/2023 07:22

I love it too. Street countdown is a favourite here. I don't really get why the "infamous" episode is so terrible....compared to all the other episodes which are just as terrible to just about everyone. 😂

Fiftyisthenewsixty · 16/04/2023 07:23

I still see the 25th of April message.

potatowhale · 16/04/2023 07:28

My faves are when Moss has a fire, when they convince Jen the Internet is in a little box and the fire at a seapark.

orangeflags · 16/04/2023 07:49

I'll get it ordered on dvd. Hard to pick a favourite episode. Anyone mentioned when Moss met the cannibal? And Peter File?

OldGardinia · 16/04/2023 08:38

The cast in this show were superb as well as the writing. Tiny things like how Douglas Reynholm says "fenimists" instead of "feminists". Or Jen's string of random sounds in an Italian accent.

Roy is actually the worst of them. Douglas is wildly inappropriate but at least he's sincere. Whereas Roy has no problem being underhand when the opportunity presents itself.

dunBle · 16/04/2023 08:49

I've not rewatched for a while, but all this discussion of favourite episodes is making me think it's time to dig out the DVDs again. Might go for some Black Books afterwards as well.

Because trans are a sacred caste. Not allowed to make fun nor criticise the ideology or I individuals. Not even fictional characters.

SheldontheWonderSchlong · 16/04/2023 09:36

It is a sublime series and I love it almost as much as Father Ted.

On my Netflix is doesn't say anything about leaving - it actually says it's 'one of the most rewatched programmes by members' so I'm hoping this means they're keeping it 🤞🏻

Childrenofthestones · 16/04/2023 12:41

Even not available it is still funnier than that gobshite Nish Kumar 😆
