Not sure it's great PR to make your target market feel like you're taking the piss out of them.

Nike really don’t get that women can be serious about sport.

WoeBeCome · 06/04/2023 09:24

What do you mean? I ALWAYS exercise making that face.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 06/04/2023 09:26

Dear god, what did I just watch??!

ItsNotUnusualToBe · 06/04/2023 09:26

How the hell does anyone think that would work as advertising?!?

just back from a woman only strength and resistance class so the juxtaposition is making me speechless.

dolorsit · 06/04/2023 09:31

I'm going shopping for a sports bra and gym kit today. Won't be buying Nike.

Gobbolinothekitchencat · 06/04/2023 09:32

That is actually one brand of sports bra that I never hear recommended among women who take part in my preferred sport. Judging from the style modelled there, looks completely unsuitable for larger breasts taking part in sport. But what do I know?

I hope DM has got a good accountant and is investing wisely as this ship is going to sail very soon. Definitely a weird marketing move.

determinedtomakethiswork · 06/04/2023 09:34

I don't think it's a legitimate Nike account.

Whaeanui · 06/04/2023 09:37

This looks like some kind of comedy show taking the piss out of women. It’s an actual paid promotion? Women have to work so much harder for that, clearly, than this person.

TheMarzipanDildo · 06/04/2023 09:39

is it advertising or has DM just @ Nike?

Bamboux · 06/04/2023 09:39

I don't see any evidence that this is a Nike ad.

RoyalDeathCult · 06/04/2023 09:41

I don't see any evidence that this is a Nike ad.

It's a paid partnership - declared in the top left of the video.

determinedtomakethiswork · 06/04/2023 09:43

Nike spend an absolute fortune on advertising. There's no way that's a Nike advert.

RoyalCorgi · 06/04/2023 09:46

Looks like it. If Dylan is claiming that it's a paid partnership when it isn't, then I imagine Nike's lawyers would come down on Dylan like a ton of bricks.

GreenWhiteViolet · 06/04/2023 09:51

Not only is it insulting to women, it comes across as genuinely creepy to me. The combination of facial expression, outfit and body shape is some real uncanny valley stuff.

Whatthechicken · 06/04/2023 09:52

They could have chosen an up and coming female athlete, someone who’s really sacrificed and trained hard, they could have followed her story, they could have helped provide opportunities for her, they could have helped her change her life. They chose a bloke taking the piss.

GoShorty · 06/04/2023 09:53

WTF is that meant to be? How utterly insulting to women.

Would they, though? Wouldn't want to get accused of transphobia and end up having to make a grovelling apology and then end up having to put DM into an actual ad.

userlotsanumbers · 06/04/2023 10:06

That's how women look when they exercise is it? I am fucking offended.
Taking DD to buy a sports bra this week - that's a hard no from me, Nike. Is this for real? Is there a partnership or am I getting trolled here? Genuinely struggling to tell these days, anyhow..
strikes Nike off the list of products I buy

Misstache · 06/04/2023 10:09

As I wake up at 5am every day to go train with a group of actual women who have to train at that time because most women have child care responsibilities that mean we have to be back to do wake up, lunches, school run, before we go off to our jobs as nurses, lawyers, teachers, dock workers…

Any real woman who was that thin and who constantly showed off disordered eating habits would be accused of “body checking” and absolutely savaged for promoting ED to a young audience. People would complain Nike is being irresponsible promoting extreme thinness as athletic. But of course any real woman who acted anything like Dylan and got paid for doing nothing would be a “privileged white Karen” who is promoting white supremacy or whatever.

However, Dylan’s time will be short lived not because of womens’ offense at his tampon Barbie pouch parody but because TRAs will inevitably turn on him - look at Caitlyn Jenner now. He’ll wear something with a pattern that’s “appropriating Indigenous culture” or he’ll be photographed with the wrong person with a dodgy history or an example of wrong think or people will just get jealous and start talking about “Black Trans women” and “people who don’t have money for surgeries” and “white Trans woman passing privilege.” There’s no way that he won’t eventually be cancelled because it’s crabs in a barrel on social media.

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 06/04/2023 10:18

Why is he jumping like he's shit himself?

Mynameisntrelevant · 06/04/2023 10:22

Honestly makes me want to boycott Nike.

Whaeanui · 06/04/2023 10:23

It’s like they’re trying to be a little girl, or their idea of one. Which is creepy.

Noicant · 06/04/2023 10:27

Oh god that was funny 😂 sorry it’s just so ridiculous lol

Misstache · 06/04/2023 10:32

long rant ahead:

This reminds me of my peak trans moment when there was a celebration in my area for accomplished girls and my friend’s daughter was a finalist. All the actual girls had extraordinary accomplishments - the typical bio would be “three years ago she came to this country as a refugee not knowing a word of English. Now she’s in all advanced classes, is the captain of the volleyball team, started a tutoring program in her community and began a campaign encouraging girls to play sports” or “she’s played violin with the symphony and has had her compositions played. In her spare time she loves science and her project was selected for the national science fair. After she lost her father to cancer she began a fundraising initiative for medical awareness…”

You know where I’m going with this. The girls had to get up and do a speech/performance demonstration. All the girls showed up beautifully dressed, many in cultural clothing, and performed instruments or read their published writing, or gave a presentation about their non-profit. Then there was a Trans girl. No accomplishments but “being their authentic self” as though the refugee girls and hijabis and black girls didn’t have to walk around in their authentic bodies all day. They came out in heels and a feather boa and a totally inappropriate outfit and strutted around the stage not even dancing. They got a standing ovation and won. It was at that moment, seeing all the girls from difficult backgrounds who had achieved so highly, and seeing how real girls had to be so talented -athletic, academically excellent, extraordinary accomplishments, community minded, articulate and bright - that I saw the sexism.

Dylan’s idea of girlhood is offensive. Most girls I know weren’t having sleepover giggle fests. Girls from poor backgrounds have to work to help support their families. Elder daughters by the age of 9 and 10 are caring for younger siblings and taking on duties around the house. Girls in immigrant and refugee families have to navigate the world for parents who don’t speak English. Girls live crammed into small apartments with generations of their families and don’t have their own room. Girls are abused and beaten at home. Girls are monitored by their families and have to sneak out to meet friends or boys. Girls are studying and working so they can go to a good university and a scholarship is the only way they can afford it. Even the stereotypical wealthy white girls who do have the clothes and the bedroom and the pool are off doing activities and lessons and sports and are struggling with mental health or body issues and stress and pressure like anyone else . None of these girls get a perfect girlhood and no woman who worked through girlhood and took care of siblings is indulged in re-enacting girlhood as a grown adult because they missed out.

Girls who actually dance and cheerlead aren’t skipping awkwardly around their garden they’re working hours a day to perfect difficult skills. They’re all over YouTube being actually talented.

Nellodee · 06/04/2023 10:35

Does anyone remember the Always “Run like a girl” advert? I loved it. Things have changed so much in eight years, and not for the better.
