Not sure it's great PR to make your target market feel like you're taking the piss out of them.

@Nellodee someone just posted it on another thread about this topic and I almost cried. Says it all that it was 8 years ago. It would be something totally different today. God that's depressing!

Keepthetowel · 06/04/2023 10:41

Brooks have brought out sports bras, they’re made in the uk , and as far as I know have women modelling their bras

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 06/04/2023 10:01

Would they, though? Wouldn't want to get accused of transphobia and end up having to make a grovelling apology and then end up having to put DM into an actual ad.

I think they would. Think about the enormous amount of money Nike must spend on marketing and advertising and generally curating its brand. It would be horrified to discover that a high profile person was claiming to be sponsored by them if it wasn't true.

Having said that, you do wonder what the fuck was going on in their tiny brains to think this was a good idea.

Datun · 06/04/2023 10:42

Hasn't Dylan just identified as a little girl, said they're depressed, that all their family relationships have deteriorated and they haven't even been kissed since transitioning?

It's not the most convincing marketing campaign I've ever heard.

Dougalskeeper · 06/04/2023 14:11

Totally repellent. Not a good advert for women's sportswear, maybe women aren't the target

Helleofabore · 06/04/2023 14:19

determinedtomakethiswork · 06/04/2023 09:43

Nike spend an absolute fortune on advertising. There's no way that's a Nike advert.

It is not a Nike advert though. It is Nike paying Mulvaney to promote their brand using Mulvaney’s own content.

NotAnotherTaco · 06/04/2023 14:20

@Misstache 👌🏻 you're so accurately painting a picture that it makes me want to weep.

The DM / Nike thing is... well, it's just beyond words. When the fuck will we ever get our world back?

HagoftheNorth · 06/04/2023 14:40

One of the Twitter responded v accurately, before transitioning, DM looked like an effeminate man; now DM looks like an effeminate man. ‘Effeminate’ is probably the wrong word - because it in no way looks like a woman.
And that’s the thing isn’t it, whatever it is men who want to transition feel, it’s not being a woman. It’s just another way of being a man

FusionChefGeoff · 06/04/2023 14:52

This HAS to be a joke / deep fake

I simply cannot be living in a world where a massive powerhouse of a brand like Nike signed this off

Fluffymule · 06/04/2023 14:53

It's offensively mocking.

He's created a grotesque parody of womanhood that he is literally parading around in Nike sportswear.

This was launched at the same time as Nike and the English Lionesses launched their new international Nike kit; additionally newsworthy because of the move away from white shorts after pressure from the women who disliked wearing them whilst menstruating.

The juxtaposition between female athletes, who have had to fight tooth and nail for their sport - (and still have less favourable conditions and commercial support despite having delivered more sporting success than their male counterparts for years now) - and this preening man in woman face being feted by a major sporting brand is sickening.

nilsmousehammer · 06/04/2023 15:04

That's quite upsettingly pitiable to watch.

And yes. Painfully reminded of the negative bit of the amazing Always campaign of 'do that like a girl', before the female performers were reminded that they did not have to enact disempowering mockery stereotypes and could just do things naturally and properly as themselves.

RedToothBrush · 06/04/2023 15:05

I've got big boobs and female shaped shoulders / chest.

Why would that advert say to me 'people like me wear Nike sportsbras'?

No amount of facial feminising surgery and breast implants manage to change the male form to look even like a butch woman.

It kinda highlights the point in a way that wasn't intended.

YouJustDoYou · 06/04/2023 15:07

An offensive moron making fun of women. Doesn't even have breasts, has no idea how painful it can be to try and exercise without decent support.

YouJustDoYou · 06/04/2023 15:09

Have you seen when he makes fun of female cliches, "I'm a female, I just gossip and do my nails and think of nothing in particular, because I'm far too busy being pretty!", and the "booby drum roll!" that he announces whilst he does a drum roll on his pecs?

ProvenceBrand · 06/04/2023 15:14

Whatthechicken · 06/04/2023 09:52

They could have chosen an up and coming female athlete, someone who’s really sacrificed and trained hard, they could have followed her story, they could have helped provide opportunities for her, they could have helped her change her life. They chose a bloke taking the piss.

They could have chosen a woman with actual boobs.

I saw this as I was going to bed here in the USA last night. They must be trolling us, unfortunately he has millions of followers on various platforms and that’s all that these companies see, exposure. Their hatred of women is on full display.

piedbeauty · 06/04/2023 15:16

I can't believe how many companies have been taken in by that brainless twat.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 06/04/2023 15:25

No shoes?

TeaMistress · 06/04/2023 15:41

I'm boycotting Nike and any other company that seeks to advertise female centered products and services and replaces a woman in their adverts with a man. I refuse to be marginalised and minimised so these companies can promote men cosplaying as women.

ReunitedThorns · 06/04/2023 15:48

I think it's pretty obvious by now that Dylan doesn't take any cross-sex hormones and hasn't had any implants, so he has no breasts, so really pointless in using him to advertise sports bras, unless they are now advertising sports bras to cross-dressers.

DoTrollsShitInTheThreads · 06/04/2023 15:57

I won't be buying Nike sports bras now. They're obviously not suitable for women with natural breasts if they're suitable for men with whatever they've got.

ValerieDoonican · 06/04/2023 16:08

As someone said upthread, if they were using a female model who appeared to have a similar sort of relationship with food as DM does, and a similar BMI, I'm sure there would be something of a hoo-ha (and with good reason IMO)

BreadInCaptivity · 06/04/2023 16:17

I genuinely wonder what discussion takes place in the companies where they decide this is a good idea?

Does someone say "I've got a great advertising strategy to sell more sports bras to women!.....let's get a man with no breasts to prance about in our kit on social media! Women are really going to go for this!"

"Yay man, that's frigging genius!"

How the hell can marketing "experts" not watch that and curl up with shame?

They are actually trolling us with this crap.

EsmaCannonball · 06/04/2023 16:40

When anyone says comparisons between transgenderism and blackface are unjust, show them this.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 06/04/2023 16:52

I liked Dylan better when he was front man for The Skivvies ( band , performed in underpants/ Y fronts).

I m sorry for all the double ententes, just can’t avoid them.

Fluffymule · 06/04/2023 16:52

He's prancing around like a My Little Pony on MDMA.
