He’s just an incompetent twit and yes I do feel for all us NZ women having to put up with this crap. He isn’t any less ridiculous because UK PMs are dicks 🤷🏽‍♀️ at least both didn’t lie about what a woman was or pretended they didn’t know.

What happened to Elon Musk’s free speech must prevail? So it’s free speech for some (conspiracy theorists, anti vaxxers, misogynists), but not others?

Walrussy · 03/04/2023 09:32

Blows me away how so many politicians have such self-righteous, furious opinions about something they're so embarrasingly ignorant about.

And there we have it. Posie Parker achieved her aim in NZ. To get people talking about this.

Huge thanks to the crowd of violent TRAs and special mention to the man that doused her in tomato juice.

If they hadn't tried to stop women speaking this never would have made international news. 👏 👏

Yes. Normal people find it quite unbelievable that a niche ideology has taken hold to the extent that world leaders are simply unable to define man and woman.

Any opposition, any journalist is being handed constantly reloaded gun.

Wait till they find out that they also can't define lesbian or gay or homosexuality in general.

They could nail it home by getting them to define mother.

Scout2016 · 03/04/2023 09:36

It's lunacy. You can't even change the colour of your car without needing to report it to DVLA and insurance company. But your sex, which is used for stuff like statistical purposes and policy making, healthcare and medical research, governing aspects of societal behaviour such as who should go where in public places, which is sometimes for safeguarding reasons....oh, just down put whatever you feel like. Or go for something in between. Or choose neither! No biggie.

AnybodyAnywhere · 03/04/2023 09:41

I have a very sensible (or so I thought), educated friend who emigrated to NZ a few years ago.

She’s totally drunk the Kool Aid dished out by the NZ media. I just asked her why her PM doesn’t know what a woman is and she told me that it’s a very complex idea and not easy to answer ‘on the hoof’…

I know she’d never heard of KJK before she was heading to NZ because she was asking ‘UK friends’ on FB about her and what was she all about etc - got mixed responses. By the time KJK actually got to NZ she was all about ‘Nazis’ and hiding behind aliases and ‘she doesn’t stand for THIS woman’.

Now apparently KJK has practically demanded the extermination of Trans people. I asked her to show me where KJK said that and her only answer was ‘it’s everywhere’.

I thought this would be a wake up call but obviously not yet. She didn’t even know about Trans anything until a couple of weeks ago FGS 🤬🤷🏻‍♀️

True and the women who invited her

Absolutely. Thank to all those brave women who put themselves in the firing line to demonstrate exactly what the trans rights movement is.

Abhannmor · 03/04/2023 09:46

Similar to the Scottish situation. An iconic leader replaced by an apparachik.

So the moral would appear to be this : a silver tongued woman is better at selling gender woo than a colourless dullard.

The TRAs need to find such a woman pronto. But ...what is a woman ? Questions questions.....

Whaeanui · 03/04/2023 09:52

@AnybodyAnywhere I hope you pointed out to your friend she was invited by a group of Maori women.

CryptoFascistMadameCholet · 03/04/2023 09:53

Yet another powerful politician beclowns himself in front of the public.

borntobequiet · 03/04/2023 09:55

What an idiot.

However the woman doing the signing was brilliant. She looked totally unimpressed throughout.

SageHoney · 03/04/2023 09:56

I looked it up online as he suggested, and it seems that he's also incorrect that one can change the gender on one's NZ birth certificate. It seems that there's no "gender" on the current form (image is from the government site, so presumably current) nor any field to report gender when registering a birth, at least online.

It's a bit inconsistent that he's happy to admit that he does NOT know the answer to the question "what's a woman?" and has to research it, but he CAN blithely give INCORRECT info about the much more obscure subjects of NZ Birth Certificates and Kellie-Jay Keen's opinions.

I'd stick with "I don't know" in future, sir, for everything. Based on this performance, people will likely believe it.

literalviolence · 03/04/2023 09:56

Can Posie Parker sue him for slander now?

If he thinks this question came out of left field then he must have been ignoring the concerns of pesky women for a long time.

How come a woman is both a biology thing and an identity thing? Does that mean that trans men are women then? Or does he mean it's a biology thing unless you say 'I'm trans' or 'I'm non binary'? Wh does that excuse/ exempt you from a biological category? Why does me saying 'I'm agender, I don't have a gender identity' keep me in that category?

I’m sure he’ll be back.

a lot of the staff will still be the same, and as every country has different hate speech laws and twitter employs people internationally, the person who hit the ban button on Plunket is probably a kiwi techy (possibly wearing ‘programming socks’).

Dibbydoos · 03/04/2023 09:57

So what's a man then?

ComradeIcakethereforeIam · 03/04/2023 10:14

I think it's fortunate Sean Plunkett has taken the ball and run with it.

Birth records aren’t actually changed except in cases which involve intersex or DSD conditions. Such records are now often left blank at the point of registration and filled in when more information becomes available.

In the case of transgender people the original birth record is moved into an archival section and the public facing record is amended. The Government retains the original records along with a register which contains the amended certificates, but these records are not publicly accessible.

Could still contribute to crime statistics being wrongly recorded?

And the public facing version is still falsified even if the original still exists somewhere.

I guess that might be OK for some witness protection cases.

Why is it needed for transgender folks that claim that there is a "difference between sex and gender", and that they, "don't deny biology"? They don't deny biology but it needs to be falsified?

ValuePartnership · 03/04/2023 10:15

It's so complicated... I mean, he only uses the word a hundred times a day. Could he say someone who is a woman, and then why he thinks she is one? Like, is/was his mother a woman? Queen Elizabeth II? Angela Merkel? It's so ridiculous - he should have to resign.

JellySaurus · 03/04/2023 10:19

AmuseBish · 03/04/2023 09:04

And aside from not knowing the answer, how politically unaware and dense do you have to be to not know this is the hot question? Ever since Anna from Warwick (?) asked that UK Lib Dem woman it on the phone-in, it's become a very simple way to show people up as clueless or dishonest.

To not expect the question suggests you're... not paying attention to anything? Great look.

If a person embraces doctrinaire thinking to the extent that they support absolute acceptance and not thinking critically about these attempts at distorting reality, if they embrace the notion that such thoughts should not even be thought, they probably also think that such questions should never be asked. And would never be asked. They might put such notions on a par with deeply personal questions that would never be asked at a public interview.

Or they're just incompetent idiots. The two are not incompatible.

RealityFan · 03/04/2023 10:20

What's a black person? Simples.
What's a disabled person? Simples.
What's a woman? Shit, someone get me outta here!

So for anyone 'public' viewing the records, the records you view will have been changed, won't they? First they would have said one sex, then at a later point in time they will have been amended to state the other sex.

For future reference, when we talk about 'changing birth certificates' we are talking about the above. (I'm assuming what you have said is correct).

I have sent her so many things but I’ll definitely reiterate this very good point 👍

ComradeIcakethereforeIam · 03/04/2023 10:22

I'm not sure I caught it right, but is 'finger in hole' sign language for 'penis'?

Florissante · 03/04/2023 10:23

My word, what an idiot he is.

Whaeanui · 03/04/2023 10:24

@AnybodyAnywhere yes please do, it’s really really not ok for someone to move to NZ and not take the time to understand indigenous women’s concerns before condemning them.
