And aside from not knowing the answer, how politically unaware and dense do you have to be to not know this is the hot question? Ever since Anna from Warwick (?) asked that UK Lib Dem woman it on the phone-in, it's become a very simple way to show people up as clueless or dishonest.

To not expect the question suggests you're... not paying attention to anything? Great look.

Genuine question... Why is it right to change birth certificates? Surely these are accurate records of an event in time. Because years later, you feel that you are the opposite gender and get a GRC, it does not mean that your birth did not happen the way it is recorded. I don't understand why this is part of the process.

This is one of my main objections to the GRA.

If you can change the record of a material, observed fact then a precedent has been set and our law becomes unworkable. Being able to falsify a document is not a human right and it was a stupid for anyone to argue that it was.

Yes, especially as this issue hasn’t been properly discussed in NZ and many won’t have realised that politicians won’t say simple truths like this.

a) what an idiot - doesn’t know what a woman is & would need time to prepare an answer 😂
b) why does anyone still think it’s ok to say KJK/JKR/all of us here, hate trans people and want them to not exist? All it shows is someone who is too lazy/stupid to do the research themselves & would rather believe what some pressure group is telling them. Not a great look for a law-maker!

Birth records aren’t actually changed except in cases which involve intersex or DSD conditions. Such records are now often left blank at the point of registration and filled in when more information becomes available.

In the case of transgender people the original birth record is moved into an archival section and the public facing record is amended. The Government retains the original records along with a register which contains the amended certificates, but these records are not publicly accessible.

Then again, if he had had time to prepare, would he actually have been able to come up with a convincing answer? Not easy when your argument is built on shifting sands to begin with.

There is no need to be embarassed for the people of NZ. Have you forgotten about your previous two PMs? I rather think people of NZ will be far more embarrassed for the people of the UK.
