There's also this official write-up of a match that completely fails to mention Inter Lions' main goalscorer.... 👀

Not sure how it works. Both NZ & Australia allow males to play in women’s sports. But at elite level some sports have decided against that, like rugby, both countries can’t offer a pathway to elite rugby competition for trans males who are in women’s categories at amateur level. It depends on the rules for football.

Helleofabore · 01/04/2023 07:51

I despair. I suspect that Australian sports bodies may have their hands tied due to the discrimination act wording from 2013 when Julia Gillard slipped in gender.

When you have idiots like Peter Fitzsimmons commenting across mainstream media in Australia that there is no evidence that ‘proves’ that males are unfair or dangerous it is going to take a major effort or sadly something more controversial than Hubbard at the Olympics. Fitzsimmons has been convinced by Dr Ada Cheung who professionally has much invested in this field, and males such as Miller the ex elite aquatic athlete who now in mid 50s can’t bear people pointing out at no mid 50s females are playing with the 20s and 30s females in their rugby team. What that male person thinks is ‘no advantages’ is just bonkers!

I wait to see how Australia deals with this. But it may have to be forced from the international federations in whatever form that can take.

Sorry can't help with world cup guidelines. But that football player who is dominating does seem to be Riley Dennis, the youtube sparring partner of Magdalen Berns. Interesting that he seemed to want to get out of the limelight, and has deleted all the super-irritating transplaining feminism videos he had posted. But then he has moved to Australia to live more quietly (I can respect that part), but still wants to dominate in women's football?

RE: "Are genital preferences transphobic?" Give it up, Riley!

Riley thinks "the answer is more complicated than you might think". Magdalen has heard the line #TheresMoreToItThanThat many times before and isn't buying wh...

Helleofabore · 01/04/2023 09:31

Really, Riley Dennis moved to Australia?

Helleofabore · 01/04/2023 09:36

That explains why when I saw the pictures blurred out I thought, that looks like Riley Dennis’s hair and shape with a blurred out face!

And would explain why they don’t want their name out there.

Here we are.

A screenshot captured before the name was removed. Almost like they know that they are wrong to allow this male to play.

Elin, 27, the number two played in the US at Collegiate level.

I am sure that people are expected to believe that Dennis is just a very talented female player who hasn’t needed to play at elite level to get the skills and fitness to play in 1st Division and score so many goals.

I remember watching the Sydney metro hockey women’s games in awe because they were full of the state and national hockey players. I assume that women’s football is similar. And there is a 30 year old male - just a talented female player …. Nothing to see here.

12,000 complaints? And still the issue feels like it is being ignored.

You may want to write to your MP and ask them to pass on your thoughts to the minister for sport (Stuart Andrew I think)

The English Football Association allows the inclusion of transwomen in women's football, so there's no particular reason why we won't see biological males in the women's team at some point.

I should clarify I meant English National team. There are already trans women players at all other levels.

HagoftheNorth · 01/04/2023 15:11

Well, if TW are allowed to play then all the women had better get ready to budge up because there won’t be any places left for them. There’s a lot of men who’d fancy playing at a World Cup, even if it is the women’s!

HagoftheNorth · 01/04/2023 15:15

And, frankly, if TW anre allowed to play at every other level, I don’t really see why the national team should be any different. Stopping some women and girls playing at grass roots level already prevents them from playing at elite level. As Amelia Strickler so clearly pointed out on R4 yesterday

HagoftheNorth · 01/04/2023 15:17

For anyone not familiar with my position - I think that where sport is separated by sex, it should stay that way!

KatMcBundleFace · 01/04/2023 15:19

Oh this person has such form for boundary pushing.

How ridiculous this all is

puffyisgood · 01/04/2023 15:57

I don't think FIFA would want male players in a woman's world cup. they're very image conscious.

pingugopoo · 01/04/2023 16:14

The FA have a Trans inclusion policy that defines Trans as simply cross dressing. There is no requirement to even pretend dysphoria exists.

When a mid-level league 2 male player can make more money is the WSL, he will identify as she and do it for the money. The only reason it hasn't happened already is because the men's game is still so financially lucrative, even the lower leagues pay considerably more than the top of the women's game.

Truthlikeness · 01/04/2023 17:28

Someone did some sums and the disparity between the number of men and women who play football means the inclusion of transwomen could very easily have devastating effects on the women's game.

There was controversy a couple of years ago when 8 of the Iranian national women's team were said to be males awaiting gender reassignment surgery. It remains to be seen whether they will even be expected to have had surgery to compete in the future.

FIFA have been reviewing their transgender inclusion policy since June 2022 and in earlier drafts had completely removed the testosterone threshold and proposing that footballers should also be allowed to compete in their self-identified gender.

Chersfrozenface · 31/05/2023 18:31

Just seen the announcement of the England squad for the Women's Football World Cup this summer.

Have FIFA announced the result of the review of its transgender policy? Is there any possibility that transwomen will be playing in the World Cup?

For instance, against the Lionesses?

nettie434 · 31/05/2023 19:39

I think the rules for the World Cup are FIFA rules, not what the national associations do.

In the sports threads, there are always a lot of discussions about the motivations of a trans women in sport. I do want to highlight that at the moment, there is a very limited financial incentive for men to identify as trans women so they can play in a women's professional team in the UK and the rest of Europe. Sam Kerr (possibly the best player in the Women's Super League) earns about £400k per year. There are rumours that Erling Haaland will be paid about £500k per week by Man City next year. Most top women players in England earn about the same as a League 2 male player. Of course if the motivation is not primarily financial then this is irrelevant but it's important to flag that there are still some women footballers who are not fully professional so I think football is different to other sports like swimming or cycling.

The US player Megan Rapinoe has been soundly criticised for her views on including trans women - especially because she is of an age when she never had to face a trans woman taking her place in the US national women's team or at club level. I might be completely wrong here but I don't think the Lionesses would feel the same way at all.

Chersfrozenface · 31/05/2023 20:37

Well, FIFA is lauding Australia's policy on transgender players in elite competitive football. Dated April 2023

"Football Australia has made a bold move to include transgender and gender-diverse individuals in elite competitive football."

https://www.fifa.com/fifaplus/en/articles/football-australia-paves-way-for-inclusivity-heres-how

ZeldaFighter · 31/05/2023 21:05

The sad thing is that including transgender players has potentially devastating consequences for women in sport. Young women are now transitioning to men in greater numbers but are unlikely to succeed in competition with biological men. Young men transitioning to women have the potential to sweep the board in women's competitions. Bearing in mind that male people tend to be either naturally interested in or pushed into sports, there may well be higher numbers of males transitioning.

Whatever biological women do, there is no opportunity for wealth or success in sport for them.

Men not good enough for the male team have the incentive though.
