Today, I celebrate the news that my appeal was successful and the proceedings are over. Even after intense scrutiny of my work and over a hundred allegations, my fitness to practise medicine has not been found to be impaired, I have no restrictions on my practice and I can resume my life-saving work. The case ends today and the proceedings are over.
The stringent analysis of this case will only serve to assist other doctors wanting to provide care for their trans patients. If I can develop the skills to help this group of patients then so can they. I am simply a well-meaning, well-educated GP who was willing to learn how best to provide this care and I was brave enough to stand against the outdated NHS model of care which is evidently not fit for purpose in its current state.

12 is a long bloody way from 16!

TWELVE!

The commissioning guidelines for prescribing HRT in GIDS is "around 16", which was interpreted as minimum 15 years 9 months old. I don't any under 16s were prescribed HRT.
There's a lot of misunderstanding in this thread though. GIDS guidelines do not need to be followed by private GPs

It's not HRT.

Can you explain why you think gender nonconforming children should be sterilised?

CryptoFascistMadameCholet · 01/04/2023 18:22

The NHS offers gamete preservation to GIDS patients.

The Webberley’s don’t seem to care about fertility preservation for minors at all.

The Webberley block their puberty so there are no gametes to preserve.

Storage of ovarian tissue is a viable option for prepubertal girls (my daughter had an ovary removed and frozen aged 6, before a bone marrow transplant).

However, frozen ovarian tissue needs to be replanted later, it’s no use to a surrogate pregnancy so this will only ever be of use to girls who go on to detransition and transmen who don’t have hysterectomy (and crikey knows what state their reproductive health will be in after a blocked natal puberty and testosterone).

But then a) detransition isn’t something GenderGP want to admit happens with, let alone prepare for and b) they don’t seem to think the fertility of ‘gender diverse children’ is important enough to attempt to preserve 🤷‍♀️

So it's all lies.

Honestly, when Chloe Cole compared what she was subjected to as akin to "Nazi era experimentation" (her words) she wasn't far from the truth.

Utterly sexist and homophobic medical procedures on healthy children.

As the Tavi showed there are zero studies on any of this.

Their own data showed that girls' MH deteriorated drastically on puberty blockers.

12-16 is a vital stage for brain development. My LA basic safeguarding training covers this in relation to trauma, as with the right input, some very traumatised children through neglect can make huge headway during adolescence as the brain goes through rapid growth/reorganisation, as it does 0-3.

It's obvious^^ that pbs wreck that.

WarriorN · 02/04/2023 07:47

Shame on these posters for glorifying Webberly's supposed "victory."

Apparently my image of grey rocks go against guidelines.

When pebbles are offensive... lol!

New England and Wales guidelines will automatically involve social services in cases where children are being given wrong sex hormones and/or GNRHa drugs outside of the NHS.

So it’s more likely that parents will be prosecuted for child endangerment than any HCP (especially if the children aren’t being properly supervised for growth impairment or being given bone density scans).

Webberly is unlikely to get an NHS job with a criminal conviction for running an illegal clinic but I doubt she’d want one?

Much more money to be made via websites operating all across the EU than there is in standardised NHS pay.

Her husband, the other Dr Webberly is permanently struck off so they are down to one income.

Lots of complaining about GenderGP’s shoddy service all over the web today.

'Shoddy' is about the politest term I can imagine for what these people have done.

Wrong thread!

Gender GP is the subject of this week's Slow News podcast from Tortoise (haven't listened yet). Subscription only at the moment, not sure but think their episodes become free with ads later in the week.

Thanks for the link. What an interesting podcast. I've not heard a long interview with HW before. She's completely reckless with a God complex. I can't believe the MPTS let her off the hook. Such a missed opportunity to protect patients.

Whoiscomingtosaveyou · 20/06/2023 18:04

Don’t doctors have a clause about not bringing the profession into disrepute? Surely having a criminal conviction causes disrepute?

Slothtoes · 20/06/2023 18:07

This is shocking. I thought she ran an illegal clinic. How can you not be struck off for that.
Is there an appeal process for this?

It won't be appealed. MPTS found her to be impaired on the basis of her conviction and a couple of other charges, HW then appealed and won. That'll be the end of it until she ends up in front of them again on new charges.

OhWhatMerryHellIsThis · 20/06/2023 18:38

That podcast is worth its own thread Shock

The arrogance of her, not only believing that she is right, but also the absolute belief that she has never met or prescribed to a child who isn't trans - the certainty that every single child or adult who contacts Gender GP definitely wants to go the whole way through puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones and stay on them permanently, for life, with not a single regret between them.

I know many doctors have a God complex, but I can't believe that they all know absolutely that they've never, even once, made a mistake.

Not to mention her "it's a successful business" comments. She doesn't even try to hide that it was set up for commercial reasons.

Signalbox · 20/06/2023 18:45

I think you’re right. It’ll get lost on here.

CryptoFascistMadameCholet · 21/06/2023 11:10

I listened to it last night. First time I heard wishy washy interviewer Polly Curtis get off the fence!

Not that I’ve heard PC do anything except this and the Tavi series, but she both-sided that series far beyond what I believe to be reasonable. Mad that Helen Webberly is so certain of a child’s trans identity and has such blind faith in a good outcome and Polly Carmichael of GIDS talks about how uncertainty is ever present in paediatric gender medicine, yet both of their positions have landed them in the same place - using life changing medications with a litany of side effects to treat a condition that has no objective diagnosis with no evidence base to justify their actions.

Proper bonkers stuff.

Was optimistic at the brief mention of the two new services having (iirc) ‘paediatrics clinical leads’ - surely that rules Carmichael out, seeing as Carmichael is a Phd (Dr of Psychology) rather than a medical doctor? I know she is involved in the setting up of these services but if they keep her in a sort of outside ‘advisory’ position that could be OK (ie asking her opinions based on her work experience does not mean acting on her opinions!
The combo of Polly Carmichael and that Paul whatsisface who came from the charity sector and prioritised publicity over patient safety coupled with the outsize influence of activists (Mermaids, GIRES Gendered Intelligence etc) has made GIDS entirely unlike other Paeds services.

Presumably moving the new services into children’s hospitals (T&P is a mental health trust) is with the intention of giving it the same sort of oversight structures as other paediatric services? I can’t imagine Susie Green (even before the Mermaids firing) having much sway over the board at Great Ormond Street or Alder Hey?

Helen Webberly told an outright lie on that podcast, btw, saying that GenderGP had had no complaints from their customer-patients.

Reddit is littered with complaints about their lack of communications and failure to provide proper medical supervision especially from female patients on testosterone (who need to have regular FBC and liver function tests and whose overall health can be far more seriously compromised by cross sex hormones).

Webberly claiming to be doing ‘the NHS’s work for them’ is laughable- GenderGP are (imo) enabling people (including legal minors) to self harm for the over quarter million a month income GenderGP are grossing.

The NHS’s work will be dealing with all the long term consequences of Webberly’ reckless business model.

YouJustDoYou · 21/06/2023 11:28

Ah, delightful - gets to castrate boys, mutilate girls, corrupt fertility and cause early on-set osteoporosis, and says how awful everyone is for not agreeing to this. How proud she must be of herself. And I bet she's one of those "allies" who completely disregards and scorns those children who then go on to become deeply regretful in older age.

anonacfr · 27/06/2023 22:17

Podcast was so interesting. What struck me is the ego boost Webberley seemed to get when she 'saved the life' of her patients and how they cried and called her their saviour...

And how much she makes a month. Wow.
