This transwomen was previously anon, has now “spoken out” on a be kind styled podcast interview. Lexi was an average men’s team player but now wants to join the women’s state team competitions and then play for the Opals national team.

Lexi’s age is strangely not mentioned nor Lexi’s height, both very common reference points in sports coverage, especially for an unknown player. Lexi says Lexi transitioned “during Covid”, so that may have been 2 years ago or 2 months ago.

Lexi is waiting to hear if a tribunal will let Lexi join a senior women’s team, these potential teammates are dropping the be kind lines but I wonder if that will change if Lexi and other players with Lexi’s suddenly competitive skill set start playing en masse. Andrew Bogat is the voice of reason so far.

Trans woman awaits ruling from Australian basketball league

BRISBANE, Australia (AP) — A transgender female player is awaiting a decision from Basketball Australia on whether she can compete in a second-tier division of the women's national league, adding to the global debate over the issue in sport.

Be inclusive whilst also giving your team an advantage - that’s what being kind is all about!

Chersfrozenface · 30/03/2023 11:00

If Lexi gets a place in the Opals, what will FIBA's policy be regarding international competitions? What will the attitude of other countries be?

If transwomen are allowed to play in international competitions, every country is going to want to stuff their teams with transgender players. The advantage is so obvious, they'd be daft not to.

I prefer:

I love the "...I'm still the same person as I was..." malarkey.
You certainly are, dear. Male.

Such poor journalism using female as a descriptor. No such thing as a female transwomen, the two are at complete odds with each other.

Yeah. First they came for woman then they tried to take female as well!

Fuck off fuck off fuck off fuck off fuck off!

Florissante · 30/03/2023 11:22

I notice that "Please be nice", "try to remember that there are actual people who are affected by these discussions and these debates" and "don’t yell stuff on the internet about it because it’s probably wrong; and, two, go and learn about it" always go in one direction: from TRAs aimed at women.

No. I'm done being nice. I know that there are actual people affected by these discussions and debates - they are women, not men. And, yes. Go and learn about it. Start with biology.

FourTeaFallOut · 30/03/2023 11:23

Ofgs. 🙄

FourTeaFallOut · 30/03/2023 11:24

It's cheating. Everyone knows it's cheating.

Myalternate · 30/03/2023 11:35

To be fair, Lexi could, from the shoulders up at least, pass as female. Still shouldn’t be allowed to participate in women’s sport.

PuttingDownRoots · 30/03/2023 11:40

Yes real people are being affected.. including women and girls. Be Kind should work both ways. Be kind to them.

FourTeaFallOut · 30/03/2023 11:41

Having a face that passes (in a few carefully selected still photos, the illusion doesn't withstand movement of any kind) is obviously entirely irrelevant.

RealityFan · 30/03/2023 11:45

I've been guilty of couple of herd mentalities in my day. It's quite exhilarating being on "the right side of history", and hating the other side. A lot to be said for group kinship.
For me, that was Brexit and other views on migration over decades. And I have moved past the herd to a more nuanced, humane opinion. I'm a better person for it.
And I've really interrogated my views on the trans phenomenon, to see if I'm missing nuance or a deeper philosophy. I'm a therapist, I like people.
And I've fully realised, there is no nuance. TRA is a zero sum game. Other than being humane to one's fellow citizens, there is no compromise or balance to be had in this (un)civil war.
This male wants the privilege of being a female, being addressed as a female. And the privileges of females, which by definition negates the females around him, especially in his chosen sport.
His sense of self can only be augmented by every female's self around him being trashed.
There's nothing #BeKind about that.

It wasn’t a still photo, it was from the podcast linked in the article.

FourTeaFallOut · 30/03/2023 11:51

Ah, I watched the podcast and simply assumed you hadn't based on your observation that his face passes. But, as you say, his face isn't playing basketball.

'Passing' or 'not passing' is irrelevant. What is relevant is biology - sex, to be precise.

KalimbaMoon · 30/03/2023 11:57

#BeKind should be a two-way street. Be kind to women and we’ll be kind right back at ya. But if you can’t see that fairness in women’s sport is more important than the inclusion of a male who feels female, then I’m afraid that’s pretty damn unkind. The inclusion of males in women’s sport is unkind because it leads to the exclusion of females. Male people are not excluded from sport, they can still play with their own sex, but please be kind, folks, and leave the female category alone.

Helleofabore · 30/03/2023 12:15

Just no! No this male should not be in the bloody 'Opals'! Fuck off with that shite. The Opals are world class and often places in the top 3 positions or at least the finals.

A mediocre male with an aim to get into the Opals? If that doesn't wake everyone up to how seriously unfair that is, I don't know what will. But then I though Laurel Hubbard was 'the' wake up call!

FOJN · 30/03/2023 12:21

I disagree that Lexi passes at all, the brow, the nose, the jaw, the chin all very male.

Fancylike · 30/03/2023 14:21

That’s the thing, Lexi is completely free to play sport. But Lexi doesn’t want to join a mixed social team or play in a team which aligns with his sex. That’s because the actual sport and gameplay doesn’t matter to Lexi, it’s the dominance.
Lexi wants to dominate his competitors, to be springboarded to the highest level of sport, and to even consider joining the national team at what would have to be an age where that dream is unattainable for female athletes.

How embarrassingly indicative is that of male privilege? Demanding undeserved success immediately.

I wonder how tall he is?

kinda important in basketball

Redebs · 30/03/2023 20:33

'Transitioned'?
No such thing.
You can't transform yourself into a person of the opposite sex.

The photo conforms to that rule of thumb that TW athletes are always pictured solo, not standing with the women in their team (where the height/size differential would be immediately obvious).
