And it will take you all the way to Bournemouth.

(My friends DiL has a DSD. Her particular chromosome disorder comes with various health problems including heart. It seems very wrong to trivialise illness/disability.)

The exploitation of people with DSD's for woke points is stomach churning. There has to be better ways of raising awareness about DSD's.

postop · 29/03/2023 07:04

These people know nothing about DSDs. They don't care and can't be bothered to find out. It is absolutely exploitation of people with serious medical conditions. It is trivialising the problems they face. It is disgusting.

GCAcademic · 29/03/2023 07:09

Pathetic and cynical. There are plenty of people with disabilities who are excluded from using trains. People with DSDs are not in that category. But it’s so much easier to slap some paint colours in the exterior of a carriage to make a show of being “inclusive” than to actually be so.

Florissante · 29/03/2023 07:26

Whatsnewpussyhat · 29/03/2023 00:05

I didn't realise people with DSD's were excluded from travelling by train.

That person on the photo dressed in white looks like someone off a piss take comedy sketch.

They do. Or from some low-budget panto.

If only they put this much effort into making sure the trains ran on time.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 29/03/2023 08:13

Ah the most marginalised & oppressed ever persuading yet another corporates to spend money bigging up their cause

if you don’t work in the charity sector I think it’s hard to explain just how difficult it is to get corporates to adopt a cause. The endless calls, meetings, discussions. You don’t see the Bank of England lit up for people with fibromyalgia do you? Or train companies painting their trains for people with Down’s syndrome or companies falling over themselves ti hand over money for training on disability rights and how to be more inclusive

but the most oppressed marginalised group ever in the whole history of everything ever have achieved all of that. It’s almost like they aren’t actually the most oppressed, vulnerable and marginalised people ever 🤔

Or in the case of SWR, on their on board wifi....which is totally unreliable.

To add insult to injury I was once told off for not being able to access my ticket stored within their app because there was no wifi or signal. Apparently I should have known intuitively that I needed to download my ticket to a Google wallet. My view is that the possession of a senior rail card automatically absolves me from any expectation that I understand google wallets. There is a lot more they could do to make ticket purchase more accessible to the elderly and disabled. Their app is horrible and so glitchy that I often pay a few pence more and use Raileasy.

I am travelling to Bournemouth today. I bought my ticket after starting this thread. Coach in the middle of the day is just as fast and half the price, and as far as I can see, no rainbow lanyards.

What the fuck? That's disgusting. I'm not dismissing how awful PCOS is but it's not a DSD

"We regret to announce that the Intersex125 service to Weymouth is delayed by approximately 25 minutes. This is due to virtue signalling problems at Woking. The Southern Railways Transgender service to Plymouth will now terminate at Romsey where all passengers must change. "

ArabellaScott · 29/03/2023 08:29

Is this the only train intersex people are allowed on? That seems hugely unfair. I don't see why anyone with a DSD can't travel on any train.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 29/03/2023 08:29

Easier to put a paint job on a train than provide clean, safe toilets or provide adaptions that enable people in wheelchairs to easily use the train innit?

Keepthetowel · 29/03/2023 08:36

I’m honestly speechless, it’s so insulting.

Its the only train, and it only goes to Bournemouth.

Make of that what you will.

How is being intersex conflated with LGBTQ+?

They are totally separate.

And how much did it cost to have the train repainted?? The train company should be thinking of ways to provide a better service to customers, not paying lip service to the latest form of 'inclusivity' (which doesn't actually benefit people who are intersex at all).

literalviolence · 29/03/2023 08:43

Medical conditions have fuck all connection with Lgbt and they're bigoted arses for suggesting it does. Some terms should never be appropriated.

Quite. Running water, toilet doors that lock, soap, loo paper - they wouldn’t go amiss on most trains in the UK. Perhaps even cleaning the toilets every now if the budget allowed.

This is nothing to do with any intersex people.

It has been coopted as an 'example' of why a middle aged man can suddently turn into a woman and get his penis out in female changing rooms, because some people are born with DSDs which means everything is fluid.

People with DSDs regularly ask to not be referred to as 'intersex' as they are all still men or women, and none of them want to be used as an excuse for why that middle aged man gets his penis out in front of girls.

It is vile, on every single front.

I was just thinking 'SWR? bet commuters find that service has been cancelled for no reason next time they arrive at the station.' Or it's late. Or it's short formation. Or because it's late it's now going to miss out intermediate stations. Or....any one of the numerous excuses in the SWR rulebook.

Needmoresleep · 29/03/2023 09:10

Sorry. They say the train will only go to Bournemouth.

What happens is that the train divides at Bournemouth and five of the 10 carriages, presumably the "intersex" one are taken off and the rest continues to places like Wool and Upwey and on to Weymouth. So at Bournemouth you would get an announcement asking all passengers for Bournemouth and any intersex passengers to alight. Pity as you can now change at Wareham for the steam train to Swanage, which many passengers, including intersex ones, would enjoy.

(Slightly off topic but you alight at Weymouth for the large prison on Portland, which has a specialist secure sex offenders unit, which amongst others housed Gary Glitter. I know someone who works at the prison who says he hates working shifts on that unit, mainly because prisoners are a lot more manipulative than the general population but also because a good proportion are now trans identifying and he dislikes the gas lighting of having to call big manipulative blokes by their preferred pronouns. Perhaps that is why the train from Weymouth to Bournemouth is not as transinclusive. )

There's nothing that the de-colonisers won't colonise if it suits their purpose. We live in a demented world.

piedbeauty · 29/03/2023 09:15

@AlisonDonut - you're totally right.

And apologies for using 'intersex'. I should know better.
