Boycott New Zealand

Let's hit the state sanctioned violence against women where it hurts - in their pockets.

Off the top of my head:

Wine - Oyster Bay, Villa Maria, the Ned, Wairau Cove, Brancott Eatate, Cloudy Bay
Lamb - check the label to make sure it's British
Manuka honey and ordinary honey - M&S stock quite a few.
Wool
Allbirds shoes
Canterbury clothing.

Have I missed anything?

Also write to the PM: [email protected]
Minister for trade: [email protected]

And tell them you're boycotting and why. There's no point if they don't know you're doing it!

I actually think the harassment of KJK at NZ Immigration - with her being called aside under the pretence of being helped then searched and questioned - is worse than what happened at the rally - though of course much less frightening. Is this where we are in 2023: a liberal democracy feels it's OK to use the power of the State to harass a woman for saying that biological sex is real? That is genuinely Handmaid's Tale stuff.

IcakethereforeIam · 28/03/2023 08:49

I think a pp mentioned crystal meth is a problem is NZ. Perhaps they meant in the newsrooms, because they must be on something. That newshub article, I just get a banner saying not available in your region. Is that new? Are they suddenly too scared/ashamed to show their faces in Europe.

And the protest in the park? There was joy and love. I believe, back in the day, burning a few heretics could be quite cathartic too. People would travel for miles. At lynching they'd take photos and have postcards made. Perhaps that's what NZ needs to revitalise its tourist industry? NZ Tourism should lean into it, because they can't pretend it didn't happen. Make it a feature not a bug. Court the misogyny pound.

I was due to go and visit family and friends in New Zealand in late November this year. I'd planned to stay for at least six weeks. I've told them I won't be coming — that being GC I wouldn't feel safe. There's been silence.

Any New Zealand friends here. What is going down in the media there about this now? Is there any glimmer of people knowing what really happened or is it still happy clappy be kind and nasty women coverage?

Fascinating and disturbing as a woman in NZ to read such a nasty and hateful thread about NZers. Judging by the majority of the comments most don't even live here, yet seem to think they know alot about it. ...and btw, the bigots in NZ are usually of the old, white types AND many issues are rooted in colonialism so maybe have a bit of a think about where that originated from oh great British Empire 🙄
Such hateful comments under the guise of "feminism", seems more like this thread is just people who like to hate for any reason. Fancy a whole thread about how dumb NZ is, when most were appalled with the violence at this protest. Utterly batshit.

Perhaps you missd the post which referred to everyone who posts or looks in here at 'right wing bigots' and 'colonialists', whilst going on to list a litany of everything that was bad about Britain. This tends to happen when you launch yourself onto an unfamiliar forum armed with multiple grievances assured of your own moral righteousness.

As if people on the other side of the world are responsible for your society in 2023. That's just childish playground politics.

The utter arrogance for someone who probably came here once for a two-week holiday in 2014, telling us all about ourselves and and our culture.

Really offensive, and I say this as someone who’s embarrassed to be a Kiwi right now.

You seem to know a fair bit about the culture in Britain, though - based on what?

Exactly how old ARE these white bigots of yours? Because New Zealand gained statutory independence in 1947, which is over 75 years ago.

I'm glad you were appalled about the violence perpetrated by the trans activists at this protest. Your politicians seem to be mightily pleased about it though.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 28/03/2023 09:08

I loved NZ when I was out there 20 years ago, not just the beauty of the place but the people were friendly. Most of the friends I made travelling Australia were New Zealanders. My boyfriend and I both agreed NZ was our favourite time together, when he died my memories of the country became even more special. To be honest watching those scenes of violence has upset me. New Zealand doesn’t look like a welcoming country anymore, especially to women, thanks to some violent trans activists (not trans people) who the country are happy to have represented them. Violence against women, even under the guise of glitter and rainbows is still violence against women.

Geez really

It is Handmaid’s Tale

The more I hear the more we can’t lose.

If you have bigots in and you really need to own it by now fgs.

And did you see and approve of the violence against women at the event?

I agree it's disappointing and I think New Zealand has simply lost its way on this.

When they elected a young female prime minister who became the first prime minister to take maternity leave whilst in office, I thought, hurrah, things are really changing for women.

But now this.

I think what has happened is that the trans lobby has succeeded in hitching itself to the gay rights movement in most of the western world, and convincing politicians that self ID, including the right of access to spaces and sports for the opposite sex, is the modern day equivalent of equal rights for gay people. "Progressives" got behind this cause so enthusiastically without really considering the ramifications that they are now unwilling to contemplate whether they might have got it wrong and are doubling down.

But the debate that is now happening over women's spaces and sports, thanks to people like Isla Bryson, Karen White, Lia Thomas and Laurel Hubbard, isn't going away. Politicians from parties which are fully behind self ID don't want to consider the consequences of what they are supporting, but they have completely underestimated the strength of feeling about this among the general public. It has been a niche issue up until now, but the more publicity it gets, the more people start to say, "Actually, I don't agree with this. Women's rights are human rights too. And children deserve proper safeguarding."

The big question for me is how this ends. All these self-styled "progressive" politicians are not going to want to do a U-turn on this issue, but they also don't want to drive voters into the welcoming arms of the opposition.

So what happens now?

Well, I have dual citizenship, lived there for years, am married to a Brit and my two DC were born there.

That do?

This is a very good post which shows how we got here.

Throw in some violence against women and it’s the state we’re heading towards / or for some are already in.

Personally I’d go for keep the left out of power until they drop gender ideology.

MarshaBradyo · 28/03/2023 09:32

As once they get in it’s very easy to close down avenues of opposition for women, as seen in NZ event.

And laws are very hard to overturn wrt loss of women’s rights.

I’m a lefty born and bred, but won’t be voting Labour this year. This doesn’t come naturally to me.

The last time this happened was when I was living in the UK, in the aftermath of the Iraq war, and the Tony Blair ‘if you knew what I knew’ debacle.

Chris Hipkins wants to sweep this under the carpet BIG TIME.

He has no idea what’s coming.

Whaeanui · 28/03/2023 09:34

The National Party is now called for a review of police inaction at Saturday's protest in Albert Part with Posie Parker.

Several people here have mentioned experiences of living in, working in, or visiting N.Z. My daughter has lived and worked in N.Z, for example.

What you failed to note was way back at the beginning of the thread a few self righteous N.Z posters. launched themsleves, newly, onto the forum with accusations of 'bigotry', 'colonialists' and all the rest, whilst posting a litany of the supposed failings and atrocities of the U.K. People have responded to such goading by highlighting the way in which New Zealand is also not exactly the land of milk and honey in many respects.

It certainly seems to be a few years behind Britain when it comes to exposure to different sides of this debate, media coverage and so on.

Oh and I forgot to add, trans people DO NOT commit suicide at higher rates than other people, it just isn't true.

Apparently autistic women come quite high up the list of suicide rates...though I've yet to see convincing statistics as I've not really been paying much attention.

As much as I tend to lean left or centre left politically, lack of opposition is always a bad thing for democracy.

To use the UK as an example, I might not want the Tories to be in power, but I think we need them to be in power some of the time otherwise we become a single party state. Although my preference would be to have a lot more than two options, and ideally a PR system resulting in coalitions, so we can keep all political parties on their toes without lurching from left to right and back again every decade or so.

At the moment I think the left needs telling that women won't stand for this. That we might be naturally left leaning and tolerant and inclusive and all the rest of it, but that they can't just count our votes before we've cast them, and if they put us and our needs last, we won't vote for them. And they need to do some soul searching and think about the reason why we don't want to vote for them. Because it certainly isn't because we've been brainwashed by the right wing media and all become Nazis overnight. The suggestions to this effect are highly offensive and show exactly what you think of our level of intelligence.

In the last census it was recorded that 8.3% of the residents of NZ were born in the UK, making it the largest single group of immigrants within NZ.

So are they immigrants or colonialists?

And is it only those born in the UK who are bigots who don't think penises belong in women's spaces?

Whataboutery. The most worrying thing in NZ is what the politicians and mainstream media are saying. Including female journalists. That’s the main issue. At least in the U.K. now we are over this one sided narrative.

You need to own your issues and stop thinking other countries are doing it to you.

Whether they be bigotry or violence against women.

What do you think of the violence against the 70 year old woman who was punched repeatedly in the face?

Ndd135632 · 28/03/2023 09:50

Seems the police in both countries are still brainwashed however.
