Wow! I mean , congratulations Dan! You really are taking gender-non-conformity to the extreme.

Total respect. I mean, c-section, obviously, no?

And is your partner supportive? How exciting. For her to become a dad, that's just ... amazing!

What?

Oh. Oh, I see.

Sorry. Wrong end of the stick.

Daniel Radcliffe has been somewhat unsupportive of JK Rowling, the woman whose incredible body of work made him a multimillionaire while he was still in his early teens, and gave him the platform to further his acting career, over her advocacy of the rights of women and girls he's such a feminist.

Daniel Radcliffe says he believes trans women are women. He doesn't seem to think sex is immutable. It therefore doesn't seem such a stretch that he believes he could become pregnant. As per the headline.

I wonder if he will now realise that his g/f is a woman?

And what a woman is

Lcb123 · 26/03/2023 14:04

Surely not me who can’t see anything wrong with this. He is an expecting a baby. Expecting a baby doesn’t mean hes pregnant

SlouchingTowardsBethlehemAgain · 26/03/2023 12:35

You will pick on any damn thing about people who do not agree with your right wing GC agenda, just to give the ole ideology a bit more air time on Mumsnet (not that it needs it).

Dammit!! You’ve seen right through us 😂😂😂😂😂😂

User963 · 26/03/2023 14:07

As an aside I saw a picture of him with his girlfriend a couple of days ago. I thought she clearly looked pregnant and was surprised that the tabloids hadn’t speculated about it.

Redebs · 26/03/2023 14:07

But if someone says 'I'm expecting a baby' it implies she is pregnant. A man 'expecting a baby' is an odd expression.

Bit like those couples announcing 'we are pregnant!'
Makes me think, 'Both of you? What a coincidence! Who are the fathers?'

raspberrywine · 26/03/2023 14:08

PrettyMaybug · 26/03/2023 13:40

@Birdsweepsin Oh FFS! Confused

Nothing wrong with this headline at all. What a silly thread, and a daft thing to get irate about. Hmm He IS expecting a baby. It's not like the headline said he's pregnant. How daft.

OP is not irate. Well, she may be by now, tbf, after the lack of sense of humour shown by some posters.

Yep,they always do.

Like Li'l Owen Jones and his comment about "broody lesbians" . . .

FlickFlackTrap · 26/03/2023 08:00

He clearly knows what a woman is when he wants to procreate.

This is what I muttered to myself earlier today.

Er things must have changed pretty recently then! Of course “expecting” means pregnant - in an old-fashioned, 1950s, Call The Midwife, jolly hockeysticks vibe.

Picture an early 1960s docker addressing a nun:
“My wife’s expecting, sister”
”My wife’s in the family way” etc.

For a man to say “I’m expecting” in this particular context is just cringe. (And obviously it’s a different usage from “I’m expecting the number 3 bus to turn up in a minute”).

But times change, and I have heard couples (the male partner speaking) saying “we’re pregnant”. Again: cringe.

THIS

There's a current, very sad, article about the death of Andrew Lloyd Webber's son. His mother (Sarah Hugill) is not mentioned at all, even in the text, presumably because she is not famous, although personally I think she should be.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-65078024

That you. Mr Viper had just this minute mentioned that AL-W's son had died of cancer, and I said "Who was his mother? AL-W has been married a few times". He scanned the article and said "It doesn't say". And I thought - another woman erased.

At one time, even if the woman had pre-deceased her child, it would have been "The son of X and the late Y". But now - nothing.

The headline doesn't say he's pregnant. It's his baby, he's expecting to be a father as he's expecting a baby. Personally I'm expecting a big Easter egg as I've given up chocolate for Lent that really doesn't mean I'm planning to lay it myself.

What a bloody fuss about nothing.

Emotionalsupportviper · 26/03/2023 14:17

Hadjab · 26/03/2023 10:18

It’s an attention grabbing headline. Daniel Radcliffe’s partner isn’t famous, hence no mention in the headline. If it were Emma Watson, the headline would be the same - nobody is really interested in her partner, only her. If it were Jay-Z and Beyoncé, the headline would be different, as they are equally famous.

I would put money on any such article saying "Emma Watson and her long-time partner/ recent beau/whatever . . ."

So men aren’t allowed to be acknowledged when they’re having a child?

This is an example of where a pronoun isn’t helping.

Fairislefandango · 26/03/2023 14:22

If he just used the word 'expecting' on its own, yes.

Most publications will vary headlines e.g.

https://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-moms/news/daniel-radcliffe-girlfriend-erin-darke-expecting-1st-child/

https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/daniel-radcliffe-erin-darke-pregnancy-b2308161.html

So we can all relax, the mother to be hasn't been written out of history and I think it is pretty obvious that Daniel Radcliffe didn't actually write any of the headlines so if there is an issue it isn't with him.

Daniel Radcliffe and girlfriend Erin Darke are expecting their first child

The actors, who got together after co-starring in ‘Kill Your Darlings’, have been dating for a decade

I am expecting the plumber tomorrow. I am not giving birth to him though. Daniel's partner is pregnant, I imagine that they are both indeed expecting a baby, cause if is actually a full grown adult or a hippo/bus/ice-cream they will make a bloody fortune.

I am also expecting a plumber tomorrow but I'm still more excited about the egg I'm expecting at easter.

Arapawa · 26/03/2023 12:20

Come on you disingenuous wassocks...this headline never used to be written. It would have been Daniel Twatcliffe and his partner blah blah blah are expecting.

I thought exactly the same as you OP.

The phrase 'expectant father' has been used for decades. It isn't a new concept.

SirChenjins · 26/03/2023 14:41

Fortunately the Beeb seems to have now acknowledged the ridiculousness of only mentioning the male partner and not the woman actually carrying the baby (who incidentally is a well known actor in her own right). See how easy that was?

I'm as terfy as they come but the headline is correct. Pregnant is a biological state, expecting is a mental one. He IS expecting a baby. I'm expecting to go to a farm in an hour...

I agree.
My partner’s daughter is pregnant, so he is expecting a grandchild.

Liz1tummypain · 26/03/2023 14:45

I think it's sweet. No reason for anyone to get their knickers in a twist

Well done, OP. Vindicated at last!

Theunamedcat · 26/03/2023 14:54

Antine else hoping it's a girl so he suddenly gets "the fear?" I've seen it a couple of times men denounced that men are a risk to women and girls totally fine to share toilets and intimate spaces be kind you dinosaur you! Have a girl then suddenly it's no you can't come in here MY DAUGHTER is here what do you mean your allowed? Etc etc

AnuSTart · 26/03/2023 14:55

The headline is correct and why would they highlight the woman when she is anonymous Mrs Daniel Radcliffe?
