Just heard they're going to discuss it.

What's a transgender woman?

WarriorN · 20/03/2023 10:12

Meant to put that in quotes .... that's what they've said on air

OP posts:
WarriorN · 20/03/2023 10:13

Men in women's sports would be more accurate

OP posts:
Musomama1 · 20/03/2023 10:24

Sorry OP I meant this as directed Women's Hour. I find biological males is more accurate to . Transgender woman frankly could mean many different things and I think serves to guilt young sportswomen from saying a hard no.

WarriorN · 20/03/2023 10:29

They're using the term repeatedly.

World athletics announcing decision on Thursday apparently.

This is a news item

OP posts:
WarriorN · 20/03/2023 10:32

Sharron Davis!

OP posts:
WarriorN · 20/03/2023 10:33

They've not included any of this on bbc sounds.... unsure if it's a last min news item? Or deliberate

OP posts:
WarriorN · 20/03/2023 10:35

Sharron Davis is speaking very well on this, covering all bases 👏

Sharron Davies is brilliant, really eloquent.

“Don’t want to pitch law against biology” according to the second speaker…

WinterTrees · 20/03/2023 10:41

I loved that Sharron made the point that Tom Daley's pious virtue signalling costs him absolutely nothing, since his position and results are completely unaffected.

zen1 · 20/03/2023 10:43

I’m not able to listen to it live, but I wonder whether they’re talking about this now as the Woman’s Hour women in sport power list is due to be announced on 28th March.

Hmmmm good spot zen

They've had a lawyer on waxing lyrical about fairness in terms of trans rights etc 🙄

OP posts:
WarriorN · 20/03/2023 10:47

There's a clip of a transwoman who is conducting research on trans athletes on who spoke on r5 live last year.

Sharron picked up on word 'meaningful advantage' as offensive to women 👏

OP posts:
MartiniFlan · 20/03/2023 10:48

'the voices of trans athletes aren't being heard' - it's all we bloody hear! them and their nodding dog supporters.

resistingreality · 20/03/2023 10:49

Second speaker talking nonsense. 😀 Sharron Davies amazing.

WarriorN · 20/03/2023 10:49

Sharron bringing up East Germans who she competed against impacting her views on this.

IOC did nothing.

Experiment by all means but not in live current sports.

Joanna Harper declined to be on, research not finished (I think?)

Lawyer doesn't like analogy with 'doping'...

OP posts:
AggieTop · 20/03/2023 10:50

Unbelievable that this bloody woman doesn't really give a shit about fairness but wants sport to "catch up " with the world in terms of the recognition of gender identity.

Sharron absolutely nailing it. And fuck off with 'cis' females!!!

Ramblingnamechanger · 20/03/2023 10:50

Sharron has said it all so well. There is no argument that make it safe or fair for males to compete in female categories. I really resent the comment that it has become toxic on both sides. Women standing up for our rights is not toxic ffs.

WinterTrees · 20/03/2023 10:50

Surprise surprise - Joanna Harper couldn't make it into the studio for a live debate!

AggieTop · 20/03/2023 10:50

I salute Sharron!!! ❤

WarriorN · 20/03/2023 10:51

Hugely important discussion - why on earth was it not advertised on bbc sounds?

Nuala pressing lawyer a lot who is master of slippery avoidance

the TRA side are consistently, no matter the topic, absolutely unable to field any speakers who can answer a question straight.

Fizbosshoes · 20/03/2023 10:52

Lawyer "wants to hear" from athletes themselves.

Current athletes are potentially unlikely to speak out. Sharron Davies is speaking out because she's experienced a similar (but concedes not exactly the same) disadvantage when she was competing

I said exactly the same about Tom Daley @WinterTrees

WarriorN · 20/03/2023 10:52

Nuala sums up that lawyer isn't being specific on what she wants to hear from world athletics.

Oh Sharron - you're brilliant!

"Mental health of women althetes matters too"
