And single women? Or should assisted conception only be for infertile women in heterosexual relationships?

Why shouldn't it?

Report

I mean yes it should sorry if that was unclear. For both lesbians and single women

Yes of course it should be available.
And it's not just women that are infertile in a heterosexual relationship... men can be infertile too, don't know why there always seems to be more emphasis on the woman when it comes to ivf

Ivf should be available to anyone who wants it.

My son is an ivf baby, we are in a country where it is not publicly funded, so we pay privately for it, and anyone any avail of the services ivf clinics provide, whether they be single, straight, old, young, married, divorced etc etc etc

Yes of course it should be available to lesbians and single women, why on earth wouldn't it? What kind of question is this?

Report

blumppump · 15/03/2023 19:34

Of course it should.

What about infertile men? Don't they count?

Report

PacificallyRequested · 15/03/2023 19:34

Yes of course it should be.

If single or lesbian women aren't infertile they shouldn't need IVF - IUI should be there first step - if they choose IVF with no fertility issues then I don't think it should be publicly funded. I had to have a year of trying and six round of IUI before getting a funded round of IVF - obviously the first doesn't apply in single women/same sex couples but they shouldn't be able to jump straight to IVF when there are other cheaper, safer, less invasive methods available.

To clarify

You say

Or should assisted conception only be for infertile women in heterosexual relationships?

What about if the man is infertile? Those couples don't get assisted conception in your book?

Lcb123 · 15/03/2023 19:39

Yes, and it is available on NHS. IUI offered first.

fabricstash · 15/03/2023 19:39

Of course it should be available but are you asking if the nhs should fund it? I think that's a different question and I am of two minds. I know a few who went it alone and they did not realise how hard it would be not having any financial and emotional support

dietcokelime · 15/03/2023 19:42

Available - sure.

NHS funded? No.

Yes. How else do you imagine lesbians would conceive?

Apologies, I should have said assisted conception only be for heterosexual couples, where one or both are infertile. I wasn't really thinking about the men.Blush

Um, with the help of syringes? Worked for some folks I know. Seems like OP may be trying to say IVF should be a last resort measure after all else fails.

If it wouldn't be available to lesbians then you want to force them have sex with a man against their will just to get pregnant? To me that feels like a form of legalized rape....
