Thoughts on Calvin Robinson?

Long time lurker, stepping out the darkness to ask this.

Was asked today by a friend who knows I'm GC what my thoughts are on Calvin Robinson. Apparently he's becoming a face of GC views?!

I was shocked. He is anti abortion (in all cases), doesn't think same sex marriage should be legal, and isn't a feminist in any sense of the word.

I'm genuinely concerned that our movement is being picked up by people like him, who couldn't care less about women. When he says biological sex is real, he couldn't give a damn about how that leads to discrimination/violence. It made my blood boil and I want to know what other people think.

As far as I am concerned though the best thing about the guy is how he shows up the intellectual and moral bankruptcy of the CofE.

MalagaNights · 15/03/2023 18:45

What is this 'our movement' you speak of?

If it's the movement against the Transing of children and for the reality of biological sex than CR is definitely part of that movement.

If it's the movement for pro choice on abortion. No CR is not part of that movement.

He's a very conservative Christian I doubt you are part of that movement, but you still agree with him on the reality of biological sex and there's nothing you do about it.🤣

I love the panic these posts try to provoke, where we're meant to scream ' Stop agreeing with us you're making us look bad!!!

It's pathetic.

The issue is that lots of people on Twitter are conflating being GC with being right wing. They are weaponising it.

Floisme · 15/03/2023 19:00

I think the issue is more that Twitter TRA know the game's up and that this is about the only argument they've got left.

I really hope that's the case.

I think the issue is people on here confuse recognising biological reality with being GC.

Also that the use of 'right wing' is a slur which can be 'weaponised'. Being right wing is normal, mainstream and legal.

It's very very amusing to anyone conservative to watch the panic and confusion of some people on the left when they realise they share an opinion with someone 'right wing'.
It doesn't compute for them beyond ' but they're the baddies!! 🤣

Gosh, so wide eyed, naive and innocent. We don’t get many of those around these parts.
There is no WE, US or MOVEMENT.
HTH.
Now, off you fuck.

BoredOfThisMansWorld · 15/03/2023 19:20

Sounds like both OP, OP's friend and this dude they're talking about all believe in gender. It's something religious conservatives and TRAs have in common.

PermanentTemporary · 15/03/2023 19:20

Oh he's awful in every way. Wasn't accepted for ordination in the CofE so found some other random grouping that would ordain him. I believe he's antivax but might be wrong about that. I know he believes MARRIAGE IS FOR A PENIS TO BE WITH A VAGINA because it says so in the Bible or some such. What a prat. Obsessed with his own media* career which he no doubt believes GOD has provided.

*Twitter and GB News, well known holy outlets

I should think our views overlap possibly in a couple of areas, including believing that sex is important. Funny how I can think that without believing my son will go to hell for marrying his boyfriend.

How so?

Citation needed.

Strange how ppl like the OP never come here and say “I’ve noticed some TRA are holding up signs saying “decapitate TERFS” and sending rape threats to women on twitter and I’m worried it’s making us look bad”

ExiledElsie · 15/03/2023 19:48

Or that an Edinburgh councillor promoted a protest against an event being held in an Edinburgh library, and the people holding the event were charged £600 for security against the protesters.

Call me old fashioned but I think that damages the reputation of the council. Are the TRAs calling out this appalling behaviour?

beastlyslumber · 15/03/2023 19:49

He's a Christian and seems like a good person.

Shelefttheweb · 15/03/2023 19:52

"When he says biological sex is real, he couldn't give a damn about how that leads to discrimination/violence."

I don’t follow what you are trying to say here OP? Are you saying that we should deny biological sex is real? That is hardly GC as you claim you are. In terms of violence - as a conservative Christian I imagine he would strongly condemn any violence. Indeed having just watched a bit of a speech just now, it seems he has huge concern about porn and sexual violence.

It is also worthwhile remembering that Christians are a hugely persecuted group worldwide. Even in the UK you just need to look at the treatment of Kate Forbes (SNP leadership candidate) to see that. Yet here you come OP preaching intolerance of a conservative Christian because he is not a feminist.

DismantledKing · 15/03/2023 19:54

He’s fucking awful

CryptoFascistMadameCholet · 15/03/2023 21:14

Big weird to assume Calvin Robinson is the Chief Terf of Terf Island rather than someone who objects to Gender Ideology and Drag Queen event for minors on the basis of his conservative Christianity.

You’d think the dog collar and cassock outfits would make it pretty obvious?

🤣🤣

The OP made me lol with 'he's not even a feminist'!!
You reckon?? 🤣🤣

Helleofabore · 15/03/2023 21:35

So what about the Pope, OP?

Does the Pope outrank Calvin in the run to become the face of our movement considering the Pope has also expressed concern about gender identity ideology?

Or can we just safely say the majority of people around the world believe in the biological facts of sex being immutable and leave it at that. That believing that fact doesn’t make people aligned with feminists or any feminist movement (if anyone wants to call it that) to prioritise sex over gender where sex matters.

CryptoFascistMadameCholet · 15/03/2023 21:41

The Pope is a terf? 🙀

Here's Calvin discussing feminism and trans rights with David Starkey.
(Warning you may not like their views).
They think the Trans movement is the feminists fault.

He's a rubbish leader for the feminist movement 😁

Insanely · 15/03/2023 22:04

His views are those of traditional Christian within various classic denominations (Catholic, Orthodox, Copt, Chaldeans, Evangelical). They are very much a minority in the West these days. Their socially conservative views align with Orthodox Judaism and Islam. The views he holds are only aired on GB news as no other channel will give him airtime, but there are a significant number of people in the UK that hold similar religious views. He was also refused ordination in the C of E and is ordained in a breakaway, more traditional, conservative group with the Anglican movement. His views are shared by many Anglicans in African nations for example.

Until 5 minutes ago it was completely uncontroversial to say women and men are a biological material reality and children shouldn’t be medically experimented on. The majority of Brits still hold those two views. It’s very unsophisticated and narrow to suggest there are only two “sides” and that anyone who shares the views of sex being immutable and safeguarding children being a good thing, therefore must agree on everything else. It’s this type of purity test that damages the Left so badly.

If anyone suggests he “represents” GCs in your hearing and you are offended by it, you only need to open your mouth and explain the differences.
