Sorry for the daily fail link .... pretty strong stance from this swimwear brand.

OP posts:

'We would like to address the recent coverage of Seafolly's involvement with Sydney World Pride in which Deni Todorovič was invited as a special guest, and wore a custom, not-for-sale Seafolly design,' the statement reads.

What's the point then? If your company designs and sells swimwear for women, what is the marketing strategy behind using a photo of a man with bulging genitals covered by a piece of bright green neon material that has nothing to do with your product??? Who then slags women off!

Do these people really believe women interested in expensive swimwear are going to be persuaded to buy it on that basis?

They need to stop employing people who don't have the slightest interest in, or any understanding of, their target market.

NandorsFamilar · 11/03/2023 09:55

If I'm not mistaken, Seafolly went bust in 2020 with huge debts.
They were bought out by someone else- and to be fair their swimwear is good (and expensive).
So why oh why do they want to choose now to have a "Ratner moment'?

It is all a bit crazy and suddenly Australia is adopting the ' assigned xx at birth' Nope I am female. Not assigned anything at birth

No. Never.

He’s clearly loving it - wonder why 🤦‍♀️

Tbh I get a very quick, visceral reaction 🤮when seeing men photographed in a state of ‘gender euphoria’ through wearing certain clothes and shoes. Eye bleach.

Same.

If Seafolly cannot understand that those photos look threatening and sexual, then they should not be marketing to women.

It seems that these people only wise up after the event, when the pushback results in a meltdown of the person concerned where they start spitting nails at women.

HopRockers · 11/03/2023 10:45

"assigned male at birth but uses they/them pronouns and identifies as non-binary"
gets dizzy from the eye rolling (which at least avoids having to look directly at it)

What struck me first was that the women pictured are beautiful/genetically blessed with symmetry while he's in fairly good shape but not particularly good looking.

The backpedal is fun though ... maybe companies are starting to understand "go woke go broke"

Baldieheid · 11/03/2023 11:27

I just rolled my eyes at the "made specially for him" statement.

What is the chuffing point of that, unless they offer ALL their customers the chance to have something custom made for them, too. That, I would understand.

"We'll custom make just for you, at this price premium, look even male bodies are catered for, aren't we WONDERFUL???"

Doing it just for one chap for a pointless exercise in virtue signalling that makes your actual market turn away is commercial suicide. Looks like they've finally realised that. What simpletons.

Baldieheid · 11/03/2023 11:30

I did actually take a better look at those lime green bottoms he's wearing, and wondered if he'd just turned a standard pair of high waisted back to front, so that's the arse we're seeing. Might explain the need for the long train covering his butt. Seemingly no, but it's a possibility.

Thank you for wording so well what I feel but couldn’t describe!
I’ve never heard the term “gender euphoria” before but once named, it cannot be unseen 🤮

Those bikini bottoms would be very baggy in the front on a woman 😂
Not a good look.

Not a good look on a man either.

They look like once wet they'd hang like a full nappy.

Boiledbeetle · 11/03/2023 11:40

For those who really don't want to click on a daily mail link

Like Billy Connolly's knitted swimming trunks 😂

The first time I heard it, it was from a man identifying as a woman. It's how he described himself. The euphoria involved in sexually cross dressing.

There are far too many men celebrating their arousal in women's clothing to maintain the narrative that they're all suffering from a dislike of their genitalia.

Quite the opposite in fact.

I always make a point of not spending my hard earned money in companies that promote this kind of shit.

Latest one to go in bin for me is Maybelline as they had a post on IG saying they would not tolerate "hate" in their social media channels, the "hate" being women objecting to men being used to advertise makeup. Men and women have different skin textures and a full face of foundation will look different on a man with a shaved face. It's so obvious.

Having said that, Maybelline is owned by L'Oréal which owns nearly all beauty brands together with Estée Lauder, Unilever, etc. If I change from Maybelline to Lancôme, let's say, I'll still be giving my money to L'Oréal, however, if that specific brand starts selling less because they're ignoring the feedback from their SM channels maybe the parent company, in this case L'Oréal, will start paying attention.

It’s getting difficult finding cosmetic companies that aren’t buying into this Sad

I was a loyal Estée Lauder face cream and make-up fan but no more.

I’ve just bought some make-up from Shumirun Nessa’s makeup line. The eyeliner is fantastic. Not tried the lipstick yet.

I bought Elizabeth Arden face cream last time, but no idea who to try after that if they start using males to advertise to women (and to be honest I’m still reminded of Harry’s todger when I use it - I’d just bought it a week before).

CandidaAlbicans2 · 11/03/2023 18:20

"assigned male at birth but uses they/them pronouns and identifies as non-binary" ... in other words "I'm an attention-seeking twat. Look at me, look at meeee!" 🙄

StephanieSuperpowers · 11/03/2023 18:30

I wonder if the employee who didn't want to do this but didn't feel able for the inevitable backlash if they said anything is enjoying this moment?

LemonadeSunshine · 11/03/2023 21:49

Jeez that's a f*ing ugly shot, bulgy crotch thrust forward, grim shoes and beard.

Brands usually strive for aspirational, I'm failing to see anything aspirational in this campaign.
Sorry Seafolly, you've lost my custom, nothing I want to buy into here.

Mars27 · 11/03/2023 23:38

@MenopausalMe let me know what you think of it as it's been so hard to find something that's not pandering to the queer agenda

nocoolnamesleft · 11/03/2023 23:59

Hmmm. They's (or is it them's?) meat and two veg appear to be very provocatively displayed in those pictures.
