Sorry for the daily fail link .... pretty strong stance from this swimwear brand.

He could hardly have adopted a more male pose. But the shoes ...

I don't understand the entire premise, tbh. Body shape and size is largely sex-dependent. Things like underwear and swimwear, especially for females, tend to hug the body. So if you make bikini bottoms for women there won't be much room for cock & balls. Unless you want them on full display ... oh, right. Maybe that's it? If there's room for male bits, they'll be baggy on women.

Anyway - insane.

Every day more insults to women.

This.
The model says that the bikini bottoms are “just like Speedos” er no. Speedos have shaping at the front to allow for male genitalia. Women’s bikini bottoms are nothing like Speedos. So either they don’t fit men (eg most men would bulge out out them…I have the image of that bloke on the Inbetweeners with his testicle falling out on the catwalk…or they would have a baggy crotch on women.
Men have a more slender pelvis, but if a man bought a small size to allow for this then his tackle would be even less covered.
It is totally ridiculous. Also when compared to the female model, this model is hardly model material, just a very average looking male.

Why has Australia bought into this so much ? Is it a fairly sexist culture ? Modi bodi and now Seafolly.

”Why has Australia bought into this so much ? Is it a fairly sexist culture ? Modi bodi and now Seafolly”

It is being done under the guise of tolerance as it is everywhere.

Remember though this article has come out at Mardi Gras time. And they just did that walk across the bridge with the huge flag.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/03/2023 10:05

The poor guy just needs Speedos in prettier fabrics.

PaterPower · 09/03/2023 10:06

Couple of things I caught in the article. The first was the use of the word “troll,” twice, when describing comments that didn’t agree with using this ‘model’ in the campaign.

The second was one of the quotes from the model… “Trans people attempt suicide 15 times more than cis-people”. Is that the very dubious ‘stat’ that nobody’s ever been able to verify? Sure looks like it.

(Rhetorical question here) why do papers like the Mail just quote these made up numbers without providing context / a fact-checking note? It’s almost always left unchallenged in articles.

And with a ‘sexier’ cut it seems…

And Speedo should add floaty beach cover ups that also suits ridiculous high platform shoes!

I don't want to see his hairy bulge. The swimwear is aimed at women. It's cut for women. Why do they imagine this will encourage women to buy their swimwear?

And that man is really aggressive in that video.

BoredOfThisMansWorld · 09/03/2023 10:26

Ugh why do Seafolly think women want to fund misogyny?

This makes no sense at all. I hate spending 80 quid on a swimsuit but I've had two from Seafolly before because of my particular shape. A shape no man can have and which isn't catered for by nice cheap places like H&M.

Idiots. Back to Bravissimo it is then.

Don’t you wear sparkly platforms to the pool or beach?

Switchwitch · 09/03/2023 11:15

The twisting of vocabulary makes this nonsensical.

I think it's an article about a man wearing swim pants but he's a special man so he says they're women's pants and he's not a man but they're also not women's pants because women have penises which makes them man pants for women who sometimes have penises but not for men unless they have penises and pants.

That's cleared that up then.

Hop27 · 09/03/2023 12:58

I think the stance from the model is pretty aggressive and unnecessary, IMO.

This is obviously not the same idea behind the advertising but a much softer message. And not the same model !!!
The image of the model wearing
(A women's branded) lime green pant, alongside a women. These images are in every shop front in Australia, every mall.

I'm sorry for my naivety but they don't identify as a woman - so why front an obviously female brand? They also are an ambassador for bonds (unisex) which I get, to a point.

It’s funny how these persons NEVER adopt the feminine personality traits like agreeableness, kindness, modesty etc

It’s all loud, aggressive, attention-seeking, often threatening “IT’S MA’AM” attitude. 🤔

tootiredtobother · 09/03/2023 13:10

sickening, im so dam well fed up with this, he will be modeling Period Pants next

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 09/03/2023 13:10

Oooh yes please

Would you buy this brand?

They also never identify into the drudge work, like running round to make sure you've got dinner and you've booked after school club and oh did the gym kit get packed and do the kids have water and is there enough petrol in the car do I have time to stop off and fill up?

PegasusReturns · 09/03/2023 13:44

Deni isn’t claiming to be a woman so I guess go Deni and go seafolly for acknowledging that bikinis can be for men as well as women.

That said if a bikini bottom accommodates a penis I will assume it will look weird and saggy on me and so will not purchase.

it’s all about the target market

KohlaParasaurus · 09/03/2023 13:44

I'd never heard of the brand before, but that bloke mocking women is deeply uncool.

UncomfortableSofa · 09/03/2023 16:01

I would just presume that the bikini bottoms have really baggy crotches and wouldn't buy them.

The market for bikini bottoms for transwomen is too small, so is this actually aimed at women?

I would have preferred if they showed Gigi etc in a nice pair of board shorts so they would become trendy and I wouldn't have to trim the ol lawn before going swimming.

Speedoes are specifically created to contain men's cock n balls. If they try to swim in a pair of women's bottoms there will be no way to stop it all flying out.

MenopausalMe · 09/03/2023 16:50

I’d assume Seafolly were not aiming at women.

I’m also a bit put out by this sub heading on the daily mail article ‘Trolls say they will boycott the brand

We’re women standing up for our right not to be represented by men. Don’t know how we complain to the daily mail about that

Baldieheid · 09/03/2023 17:05

If those pants are containing his goolies as it looks, I'd assume they've either made a special pair just for the purposes of the ad (in which case, false advertising?) or I'd not expect their floppy bottoms to fit my female form at all well.

It's all a bit pointless really.

Helleofabore · 11/03/2023 09:11

www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-11846435/Seafolly-unveils-female-brand-ambassador-amid-backlash-non-binary-model.html

Apparently this individual was not an ambassador for the brand and just a ‘special guest’. They had overstated their role on social media it seems. And Seafolly is in damage control mode but not going back on the engagement of this person. The reality is they were a bad choice because they seem rather aggressive and they mentioned a major competitor in describing what they were wearing… or they are not very bright and thought Speedo was a ‘type’ of tog rather than a brand. (Like band-aid).

RufustheSpeculatingreindeer · 11/03/2023 09:25

ErrolTheDragon · 09/03/2023 08:43

Putting the folly into their brand, all right.

Why is that piece branding women making objections 'trolls'?Hmm

thats what i thought! I was going to reread but couldn’t face it a second time

and no….id never buy from there again, if i ever did

RufustheSpeculatingreindeer · 11/03/2023 09:26

FrancescaContini · 09/03/2023 09:04

Yeah, wonder why he’s standing like that, crotch thrust forward 🤷‍♀️

Its just an awful photo…just dreadful

Datun · 11/03/2023 09:32

littlbrowndog · 09/03/2023 09:48

Jeez the heels and the bulging crotch in every shot 🙈

I know. It's like they can't see it!

I realise there's a lot of misogyny in the fashion industry, but they do know that's not the actual point, don't they? They still need to sell the damn things.

And how can the fashion industry, of all people, not understand AGP?

PuttingDownRoots · 11/03/2023 09:32

An image of a male person in an neon bikini would not make me buy it.

For full balance... a swimwear brand making "feminine" swimwear for male bodies as well as making "feminine" swimwear for women would not put me off. But swimwear does rely a lot on fit (hence why it comes in dozens of sizes for women...)
