Newham Green Party leader storms out of council meeting

For being repeatedly misgendered.

However, listening to the recording, it's clear that the councillor tries very hard to get it right, but struggles with the ensuing grammatical errors it forces him to make.

Goodness that video - deep belly laugh from that 😂.

I consider it very similar to those experiments/games where you have to name the word thats written down, but the word is written in a different colour. People really struggle with it and say what they see rather than what they read

Its the same, if a man is in front of me, Im going to see him as a man, not as a they, them or she.

Indeed, as expressed in the "Pronouns are Rohypnol" essay: fairplayforwomen.com/pronouns/

BreadInCaptivity · 28/02/2023 17:03

How can you misgender a person who identifies as non binary?

Surely the crime is gendering them?

“I’ve been informed that I’ve been misrepresenting the councillor,” Mr Vaughan said. “I should have said ‘them’ rather than ‘he’. So I do apologise for that. And I think that’s what affected him, is it? Them, sorry. So my apologies to him. To them. Sorry.”

This is probably my favourite paragraph in a newspaper ever.

😂

Alison, Alison, wait, it gets better:

Ah yes, indeed! 😀

Oh, bless them. Short comedic interludes in what otherwise might have been a dull meeting about local politics.

It's called the Stroop effect:

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stroop_effect

"the Stroop effect is the delay in reaction time between congruent and incongruent stimuli."

You've actually got it the wrong way round - it's easier to say the word that's printed than say the name of the colour of ink. Unless it's in a language you don't know, in which case the printed word is meaningless to you and you can easily just say the colour instead.

The Greens have a habit of walking out. A great new political strategy called the no debate flounce.

The Scottish Greens have it down to a fine art -

I did reflect on her tenacity and resilience and extreme desire not to put anyone out.

Against the self centred demands of someone like this.

I’ve thought that about our parents generation. My In-laws being of the never complain, give back to local community and solider on variety. What happens when they’ve all gone?

And, oh yes, I used to think Jordan Peterson was dick’ish but now admire his prescience on the topic.

Well done, my description was pretty rubbish and like you say, got it arse about face.

StephanieSuperpowers · 28/02/2023 17:59

I think our non binary trans woman correspondant calls this "existential violence", which I gather is the bad kind. The silencing disobedient women kind is fine

IcakethereforeIam · 28/02/2023 16:47

I like the colours of literal violets.

@Glinner Done a bit on this....person. He's been all over the gender spectrum but has consistently been an idiotic narcissist.

grahamlinehan.substack.com/p/will-the-green-party-never-learn

Just read this piece by glinner about yet more Green Party Women elections, I can't keep up! And every time I have to scrutinise the blurb and read between lines to find an actual sane woman to nominate along with some bloke called RON. Helpful mumsnetters gave pointers to how to vote and who to avoid and when to RON but that doesn't happen now.

So, sorry @WarriorN. I joined the GP last time we got excited on FWR about making a difference in the GP to do my bit, but I can't stand the insanity a moment longer. I surrender 🏳️‍

inkjet · 28/02/2023 18:03

A small correction yetanother

You've actually got it the wrong way round - it's easier to say the word that's printed than say the name of the colour of ink. Unless it's in a language you don't know, or written by Judith Butler, in which case the printed word is meaningless to you and you can easily just say the colour instead.

WarriorN · 28/02/2023 18:06

Understandable @SerotinaPickeler, I hope you told them why.

These twats are going to sink the party though.

I'm sorry, I also left, back when they did a motion to support Drag Queen Story Hour. It was just too absurd, I did let them know when I left.

One of the candidates for the women’s role in London was Danny Keeling. He describes himself as “genderqueer” and doesn’t identify as either male or female…

So, did them get both roles?

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/02/2023 18:32

Couldn't find the flounce but I thought it was very sad at the end to see the chairman castigating himself for his wrongspeak, vowing to educate himself and to do better.

Was like something out of Maoist China.
