Tory councilor has trans women on the brain

Does anyone else feel the messaging here is a little on the nose I mean imagine if the councilor had exclaimed "A black woman" or "A gay woman" with the same stomach-sinking, intrepid sense as she did "A trans woman." in response to seeing someone washing her hands and leaving...
Also "any pub in the country" is rather creating panic at something that isn't there...

In my field of study if this was a textual error in a manuscript it would be assumed the comment was 'on my pants' as this would make sense of the two variant readings 'penis' (sounds like pants) and 'jeans' (means pants, in the sense of trousers).

But it's not a textual error in a manuscript. The person who said the word knows what they said. So there are two possibilities: Sophie is telling the truth, and it was the councillor who misheard "jeans" as "penis". Or Sophie is lying, and the councillor heard correctly. The suggestion that they both got it wrong is nonsensical.

RoyalCorgi · 27/02/2023 16:55

‘She’ wasn’t wearing jeans though. Maybe ‘she ‘ was going home to find ‘her’ jeans and wipe ‘her’ hands in them?

Good point! I'd failed to spot that. I think it settles the matter.

And as the The External Monitors will no doubt accuse me of hyperbolic pearl clutching re: Sophie’s snazzy knuckle accessory…

The American flying monkeys are in her mentions now:
Katelyn Burns
You should resign over this. You shouldn’t be sexually harassing trans women by lying to the press.

I'm amused by other TRAs suggesting Sophie said "pants"
😳

CryptoFascistMadameCholet · 27/02/2023 17:48

Wiping one’s hands on one’s pants would also be unnacceptable in a British Ladies lavatory.

Burns can take Burnself’s cultural imperialism and shove it up Burns’ American ARSEHOLE (sic).

She saw a man in the women's loos. She's perfectly right to think this isn't acceptable.

It’s Twitter. Do you think everything on Twitter is 100% true? But the Councillor wrote to Kemi Badenoch so is far more likely to be an accurate account IMHO

HairyPooter · 27/02/2023 19:48

Racist and homophobic. Why does that not surprise me?

Delphinium20 · 27/02/2023 19:56

As an American, I say pants but my UK friends say trousers. Also, as an American, penis does not sound like pants to my ear. How many of you Brits actually say "pants" to mean trousers?

No because unlike the OP the rest of us aren’t homophobic racists

WarriorN · 27/02/2023 20:00

Trans women are a type of male.

Hth.

CryptoFascistMadameCholet · 27/02/2023 20:16

Whatever was actually said & heard in the lav (and these two things could genuinely be different because mishearing others IS a thing) having looked through Sophie’s social media footprint I don’t doubt that Sophie could be an intimidating presence in a small room, especially when that small room is supposed to be a single sex space for female people and Sophie is very obviously NOT a (biological, dunno about legal) female person, which is noticeable from a bloody mile off due to the sheer size of Sophie, let alone all the other obvious physical and auditory characteristics that humans use to recognise sex.

I’m fairly confident in stating none of us.

I like the word ‘slacks’ personally.

Ah I've just made the connection between the author of this thread and the other one.

No means no mate.

As an American, I say pants but my UK friends say trousers.

It's normal usage in the Newcastle area, but not really in the rest of the country, so Ms. Womble Cook is confidently wrong.

😃

I’m from the Home Counties (Wimbledon).

Clearly I cannot understand a single word from a Geordie’s lips - I’m just not cut out for it.
